Every once in a while I’ll do a quick scan of wikipedia and official sites for a few bands I keep an eye on to see when some new stuff may be coming along. Here’s what I’m looking foward to at the moment:
The Dandy Warhols - Earth To The Dandy Warhols (May 5, 2008)
Aimee Mann - Smilers (June 3, 2008)
A Camp (Nina Persson from the Cardigans) - Something coming late summer 2008. No new Cardigans stuff for a while so this will have to do.
Whatever Jenny Lewis is working on at the moment (she’s recording another solo album now apparently).
Blondfire (formerly known as Astaire) should (finally) have something out this year.
With both the Dandies and Aimee coming up, it’s a pretty good year for me so far. What are you looking forward to in the near future? I’m hoping at least one person will post something that makes me say “OMG I didn’t know that was coming, woot!”
I kind of want to hear Chinese Democracy, which is rumored to be finally finished and ready to be released sometime this year. I think I’m just more curious than excited about it, though.
Apparently The Offspring have a new album coming out this year. I think I’ve outgrown them at this point, but they were a favorite when I was in high school so for nostalgic purposes I’ll probably end up picking it up.
I want to hear the new Roots CD “Rising Down” which I think comes out in the Summer some time. And might as well list out the other Rap stuff: whenever the new Dr. Dre album (Detox) comes out, the new eminem one (King Mathers was the rumored title), and the new N.E.R.D “Seeing Sounds”.
And I’d love to see a new Rage against the Machine album, but they’d have to make it first.
From what I’ve heard, Chinese Democracy has been finished for a long time. Axl’s just not releasing it for whatever reason.
I’m looking forward to releases from Portishead, Opeth and Metallica. I’m also curious as to what Shirley Manson’s solo album is going to sound like–the official description is “dark and moody”, which could go either way.
I forgot about Chinese Democracy. I’ll be checking that one out (if only out of curiosity). I didn’t know Shirley Manson had a solo album coming, I’ll watch for that too. Thanks fellers, that’s what I was hoping to get out of this thread.
I also just noticed Morrissey has another new one coming out later this year. His last one was surprisingly good, so I’m looking forward to hearing more.
IIRC, Chinese Democracy was supposed to have been released for the past several years. But. it. just. won’t. happen. Based on the “unofficial” tracks I’ve heard, I think when it does release it will be good but not great, sort of like Velvet Revolver.
I’m excited for the new Weezer album to come out. It’s supposed to be released in June. I also didn’t know there were new Dr. Dre and Eminem albums coming out. I’ll be looking forward to Dr. Dre’s more than Eminem’s, having disappointed by his last couple of releases.
They have a new mini album out in advance of their new album, but I’ll believe the new album is for real when I SEE it. Wheat is the first band I think of whenever I hear the word “underrated”. So good.
I didn’t know Weezer had a new one. They fell off my radar after releasing Make Believe, which I hated as much as a man can hate an inanimate object. I’ll definitely give the new one a shot though.
Portishead - Third (Their first album in ten years, and supposedly very good.)
Jenny Lewis - Whatever the hell she comes out with, I will get it.
The Raveonettes - Lust, Lust, Lust (It actually came out last month, but I’ve been holding off on buying it and even hearing anything from it.)
