Anyone have upcoming games that you are are looking forward to? For me it’s the upcoming Bond game: it looks basically like a reskinned Hitman, which is fine by me.
Also the recently announced Tomb Raider games for 2027. I loved the rebooted trilogy and am excited to see how they will develop it further.
Now it’s just hoping that they will work on a Steam Deck and/or Mac, or if need be on an older Windows PC. I won’t buy new hardware just for these games.
I did not know about this. Thanks for the heads-up.
I don’t really pay attention to the new-and-upcoming slate. I’ve got such a backlog of stuff to finish I try not to disrupt my progress through the pile by adding new titles.
Tomb Raider, though… that’s a longtime favorite. Long, long time. I’ll keep my eye on that.
As much as I enjoy D&D, I always thought 5e made for a poor turn-based CRPG adaptation unless you were one of the classes with extra actions. Original Sin 1&2’s action point system was much more flexible and made each turn more meaningful and tactical. Hoping the new game will have something like that. And no real-time parry (ahem, Expedition 33).
Also pretty excited about the new Steam Machine (mid-range SteamOS PC) and Steam Frame (VR goggles). I’m hoping Valve can seriously challenge Microsoft’s PC gaming monopoly.
Total War: Medieval 3 and Total War: Warhammer 40k were both announced the other day and both look epic. They’re finally updating Total War’s engine again.
I saw the Total War: Warhammer 40k and am pretty excited about that. Didn’t see Medieval 3, but now I’m excited about it too. I’ve played the Total War games since the original Medieval Total War back in like 2002 or so, and only really skipped the Shogun ones.
I’m also cautiously excited about Warhammer 40k:Dawn of War IV. Played 1 and 2 like a fiend, but skipped 3 because it sounded more like a MOBA set in the 40k universe, not a DOW game.
Total War: Warhammer 40K. TW:WH3 is my favorite game of all time; based on the developer discussion Creative Assembly put on YouTube a couple days back, I am absurdly excited for 40K. I watched the game awards only to see that trailer; the Divinity trailer was an unexpected bonus.
Looking forward to Dawn of War 4 and Warhammer 40K: Dark Heresy as well.
If you like fantasy, Warhammer. (Might be expensive to get into for the sheer amount of dlc, but regularly goes on sale, at least four times per year.)
The old games are great, but a lot of progress has been made in the UI. If you would prefer a historical setting, the latest was Total War: Pharaoh (bronze age Egypt). Three Kingdoms for China in the Warring States period. Shogun 2 (feudal Japan) is GREAT, but is definitely showing its age.
Aside from minor bug fixes as such, currently only Warhammer is still being actively worked on.
Warhammer is the only currently-released game being actively worked on; as in, receiving new content.
If you are into modding, medieval 2 has a full Lord of the Rings overhaul (I last played that like… ten years ago now); I believe Total War: Attila does as well, though I’ve never played that one.
