What games are you looking forward to in 2009?

What games are you 'dopers looking forward too this year? Any platform (though I’m most interested in PC or WII myself).

Starcraft II.

(Please please please please please)

You know, that’s actually not one of the games I’m really looking forward to for some reason. It just doesn’t do anything for me, though I really enjoyed the first one. I AM looking forward to the new Diablo, but not sure if it’s coming out this year or not.

The games I’m really looking forward too atm are Dawn of War II and Empire Total War.

Darkfall Online. It’s coming out in Europe January 22, a little later in the US.
Has anyone heard of it or am I the only one? There was never a post on it here but I thought there eventually would be since it looks so awesome.

Oh, and as xtisme said, Diablo III if it comes out this year. Yeah, it still looks too cartoony/colorful, but I’ll just turn down the gamma and brightness. :stuck_out_tongue:

Sims 3 looks really good. No more being confined to a single lot at any given time, meaning all other Sims in town will be going about their lives while the player is concentrating on one household. Not having to worry about Comfort, Social, Hygiene, or Environment is nice as well.

Empire: Total War could be rather fun. I fear for a new graphics card (and probably %^* motherboard), though.

World Destruction/Sands of Destruction - (Nintendo DS) - Cool concept (RPG where your goal is to destroy the world rather than save it) and a dream team from other games working together on it.

Nanashi No Game (“Game with no name”) (Nintendo DS) - This one looks amazing and is rumored to be out over here sometime in 2009. Sort of like “The Ring” meets old school gaming - there’s a rumored haunted/cursed video game that kills anyone that plays it. You spent time exploring and investigating in regular “hotel dusk” style, then you spend time actually playing the cursed 8-bit RPG. Meta-gaming at its finest.

the Fallout 3 DLC (Xbox 360) - the greatest game of this generation gets expanded.

Shooter fans and PS3 owners may have something to look forward to with Killzone 2.
Gran Turismo 5 will hopefully come out in 2009. (Also PS3.)

PC MMO players and Star Wars fans will have Star Wars: The Old Republic to sink their teeth and time into.

Extra goodies for great 2008 games, such as Fallout 3, Left 4 Dead should be arriving soon as well.

  • Empire Total War looks awesome.
  • Sims 3 - I think I might actually like this iteration of the series.
  • Star craft II - Nostalgia value, mostly.

Blood Bowl

I’m a huge fan of the board game but can’t ever get enough people together for a league. I loved the 1995 computer version even though it was plagued with bugs and poor slapped together design. This game is the reason I recently purchased a new computer to handle it.

Am I crazy in hoping that Half Life 2: Episode 3 narrowly squeaks into 2009 somehow? It’s a longshot but it’ll be two years in October. And maybe it’ll arrive with Portal 2, if such a thing is even in the offing!

“Some may say I’m a dreamer … but I’m not the only one.”

Well, as a wise artificial intelligence once said:

“I’ve experiments to run.
There is research to be done,
on the people who are
still alive.”

Bioshock 2: Sea of Dreams. It won’t live up to the original and I’ll be sorely disappointed, but that doesn’t stop the anticipation either.

I would be interested in this but I’d bet money on it being done like an EA sports game rather than a proper translation of the board game like I want.

The only 2009 release that I have anything resembling passing interest in is Rock Band: The Beatles and that’s mainly because as much as I enjoy Rock Band I only know a couple of the songs in any given release. An edition where I actually know all of the songs will be a nice change.

Are they even pretending that FF XIII will be out in 2009 at this point? Anyone know?

Are you kidding? They didn’t admit it wasn’t coming in 2008 until August.

But as of right now, Square-Enix seems to be saying “it’ll come out when its done” while then implying that that should be in 2009. Of course, when we in America will get it is anybody’s guess.

My “GottahaveitnowgiveitwhydoIhavetowait?!” list consists of:

  • Resident Evil 5
  • Resident Evil 5
  • Resident Evil 5
    and
  • Dawn of War 2

Empire: Total War; Rome: Total War helped me quit smoking, so I have a soft spot for the series.

Brütal Legend, of course.

Tho I do await Black Mesa Source with a great deal of trepidation. And I guess Street Fighter 4.

I’m also looking forward to the 3 official DLC’s for Fallout 3 and the 3 mini-expansions for Sins of a Solar Empire.
