What games are you looking forward to in 2009?

Super Bowl XLIII, when the Giants make it two-in-a-row.
Oooo…they’re remaking Blood Bowl?? Sweet!

Apparently there are two different modes, one like you say, is a Madden clone, the other is supposed to be a faithful reproduction of the turn based board game.

About six months ago, someone on my livejournal friends list (how’s that for a solid cite) posted a link to a call for auditions for the voice acting parts in Portal 2. So I’d say such a thing is solidly rumored to be in the offing.

Tales of Vesperia (it hasn’t been released in Europe yet)
Star Ocean: The Last Hope
Dragon Age
Empire: Total War
Hearts of Iron 3
Duke Nukem Forever

Ah yes… about time for that last one to pop up.

I usually have high hopes for games based on other media. Rarely, are my expectations met. But, I still keep those hopes up. Hope springs eternal.

GhostBusters: The Video Game. The first movie will always remain a classic. And, I remember playing and love the crappy C64 game. This game looks like a lot of heart was put into it. And, a lot of the original cast.

Batman: Arkham Asylum: I like the idea that the Batman’s detective skills will be emphasized in this game. And, I believe it is written by the guy who created Batman the animated series.

Batman: Dark Knight: Now this one, I don’ thave as high hopes for. But, a free roaming Batman game would be fun.

Now, to games that aren’t as directly based on other media.

God of War 3: I enjoyed the PS2 version and really liked the PSP version. I think they eeked out the most from the PS2/PSP for terrific graphics and fun gameplay. So, I am looking forward to what they do with the PS3.

inFamous: Another super hero sandbox style game. This one I don’t know much about. But, the videos of it that I have seen have been extremely COOL.

Empire Total War.

Empire Total War.

Empire Total War.

The Total War games have taken up something like 2/3 of my total gaming time ever since Shogun.

Every time they put out a new trailer on Gamespy for TW: Empire I think ‘damn, is it March yet???’.

What I like best about it is that it will basically be the Ghostbusters 3 movie we were promised but never got. It was written by Harold Ramis and Dan Aykroyd, fer christsake!

If I understand it correctly, it will have a “main plot line” story that you can sort of pick up and follow at will, and then a large “sandbox” GTA style city that you can just run around and blast random ghosts in.

Very excited.
It IS coming out for PC, right? I know it will be on the Wii, but I don’t own mine anymore (an old roommate and I went halvies on it and he “bought out” my half.)

You know, every time I don’t see your name in one of the Total War threads, I wonder if you’ve gone missing or something.

There are Total War threads? It’s just, I hardly ever visit the Game Room, so I haven’t noticed that many.

Also, I killed a shared game we were playing about a year and a half ago - remember playing the Moors in August-September 2007? My computer broke down about 5 turns before the end of the game and I was so frustrated by it that not only did I not pass it on, I also didn’t tell anyone about it, and the game thread died an ignoble death. Since then, I’ve been too embarrassed to join any of the few TW threads I noticed.

Ride To Hell

Yeah, we have a new co-op game going now. We’re Polish.

Sims 3. I always enjoy what they do with the initial upgraded versions of the game, before they start adding goofy mods.

Is it just me or does it seem like this year is going to be a bit thin for really kicking PC game titles? Aside from Total War and Dawn of War and a couple of others it just seems like there isn’t much in development that will be coming out this year.

Of course, along with Fallout 3 and Sins, the Total War game and Dawn II should be enough for me for the rest of the year. And of course there is always WoW…my old guild mates are doing the whole ‘come back to the dark side…’ schtick to me, trying to get me to try out the new Death Knight class.

I’m actually considering it…or maybe the Pirates game. I have to admit that WAR kind of left me a bit underwhelmed on the MMORPG side of things.

I thought’08 was going to be meh with regards to games too, but it ended up being a huge bumper crop of titles. We shall see.

i didn’t even know we were ever promised any Ghostbusters 3! Then again, as a film, I wouldn’t be as excited. As a teen seeing Ghostbusters 2 was one of the biggest disappointments I ever had at the theater. So, their movie sequel track is not great in my book. Yet. Still excited about the game!

Yup. The website for the game lists PC-DVDROM. And, the wikipedia page says that the PS3 PC and XBox360 versions are being developed by one company while the PS2 and Wii versions by another.

Fun fun!

Can I join? Can I?

Looking forward to Pikmin for Wii!

Not too sure what else, though…

Dragon Age is supposed to come out this year, that looks pretty good. Star Trek Online probably won’t, but a Trekkie can dream… although even if it does, I may not have the time. Or the money. I mean, I’m already playing Eve Online all the time.
