Does that mean I’m in?
Oooh, fantasy football. Can I add my name to the list of potential rookies eligible to join the league?
Okay, I’m hereby relinquishing my position as commissioner. Things are going to be (hopefully) crazy-nuts for me this summer/fall, and not having to worry about this would be grand. I’ll still play, but the less button-pushing, the better. Which of the veterans would like to pick up the gauntlet?
I didn’t realize that the commissioner spot was open. Since I’m running other leagues anyway, might I apply for the post? I promise to be fair and will address concerns promptly. Also, I will document everything on my own webpages so that records can be kept from year to year.
As an offer of goodwill (I was planning to do this before finding out about the post) you can find a list of pre-season player rankings here.
LT over Priest? He may be old, but I don’t think you can reasonably put the top fantasy scorer for three straight seasons anywhere but on top. Think you were a tad unfair to Stephen Davis and Fred Taylor too.
Peyton fourth? Bit unfair, especially given Daunte’s tendency to blow hot and cold. Props for giving Matt Hasselbeck respect, though- he carried me last season. But come on- Mark Brunell at #24?? With Lavernues Coles and Rod Gardner, an offensive line, and a star running back???
No argument with the top eight or so of your recievers, although I think you ranked Koren Robinson a bit too highly.
Neither Boo Williams nor Antonio Gates are the incumbent starters at tight end (although Boo definitely played well enough last season that he deserves the spot).
notes Frank #2’s join date
I think you should pick new managers in order of post count
They’re not my personal rankings, just what was supplied to me by those who claim to be “in the know.” I’ll be glad to update the webpage with anyone else’s suggestions about the ranking order.
I think the knock on Priest Holmes is his inability to get it done in the crucial games. It will be interesting to see everyone else’s analysis.
If Steelerphan wants to run the league, I don’t have a problem with it… but I do want to put the following issues on the table, which could be resolved by majority (plurality) vote:
- League members.
I think we should resolve who is still in from last year, then give the remaining spots to SDMB members.
Here is my update of Hamlet’s earlier list:
Returning veterans, in no particular order:
[ol]
[li]mouthbreather[/li][li]furt[/li][li]ShibbOleth[/li][li]Munch[/li][li]Steelerphan[/li][li]bababooey (* not a member, reachable by email only.)[/li][li]Weirddave[/li][li]neuroman[/li][li]Doomtrain[/li][li]Omniscient[/li][li]Wilson[/li][/ol]
The following people have not checked in, as best I can tell. I have sent them all an email at their listed addresses (I cc’ed you, Steelerphan.) I say if they don’t check in via email or post by next Monday a.m. (6/28), then we replace them.
Potential Retirees:
- mrchan
- White Lightning
- NurseCarmen
Paging NurseCarmen, where are you? I see you are a Charter Member and your last activity was at 9:39pm. Perhaps correctly spelling your name (without a space) will yank you in. White Lightning and mrchan do not appear to be active.
Proposed rookies, in order of speaking up:
- Really Not All That Bright
- Ellis Dee
- Frank #2
After we get a final list of league participants, we should determine:
- Keeper situation from last season.
- Keeper system for this year’s league.
Shit. I would’ve said something earlier if I’da known you were going to get all accepting. Anyway, if you add any more new owners I’m in.
Do you really?
Well, yeah… I mean you’re in already.
Ok. I sent out emails tonight and heard back from mrchan and White Lightning - both of them want to return to the league this season (though they’re not paid SDMB members.) White Lightning says he has a list with a few top players from each team, this may be useful in trying to reconstruct the keeper situation.
So this means the only one MIA right now is NurseCarmen, and we could easily hear from him in the coming days…
There seem to be a lot of interested parties in joining the league, but it looks like we have at least 13/14 spots filled with returning members. Well, ain’t no reason we have to limit ourselves to just one league, eh? Anyone interested in spearheading a second league?
Anyone?
I’m one of the odd ones out, so I guess that responsibility falls to me. I can dig it. We’d probably need at least 20, don’t you think, to have two decent leagues?
Jimmy,
It looks like there are at least 5-6 people in here who would want to join a 2nd league. If you started a new thread I’m sure you could easily fill up the 2nd league. Of course even if you didn’t get enough people, I’m sure that some of the dopers in the original league would join the 2nd to fill it out.
A quick count shows 16 people interested in joining the league. 4 more and we can have two 10-man leagues. Should they be separate or do we schedule a few inter-league games for some freindly competition?
I do a lot of work with spreadsheets so I’d be willing to do any bookkeeping, roster files, scoring records, or schedule creation.
First off, props to **Steelerphan ** for picking up the gauntlet. You da man.
What are the possibilities of splitting this into two divisions? I know you can’t do that on Yahoo’s free league, but we could be running this off of Steelerphan’s website, no? Transactions and such on Yahoo, matchups and records off Yahoo. It could be interesting.
A 20 team league? I mean, I like deep leagues, but 20 for the NFL is nuts.
Unless you are talking about two 10 team leagues, each drawing on the entire pool of players… but that would make interleague matchups bizarre.
I think there was another SDMB fantasy football league last year… maybe the old thread has some clues to who was in that league. I seem to remember Osip being involved, but that could just be the gremlins in my head playing tricks on my memory.
And neuroman, you’ve got Doomtrain on your list of owners - I don’t think that’s right… you left off Hamlet.
Or am I just being whooshed?
Right. NEW managers. People joinging the league. Not those aready in in. I see.
[sub]I’ll just go stand quietly over here in the corner…[/sub]
I’ve got no problem with breaking it up into multiple leagues (divisions?) so that the player talent pool isn’t diluted too much.
Does anyone recommend some good FF software? Or, should we run it as two or more leagues on Yahoo, with the championship game being between the league winners? I’m open to suggestions that will make it easier for all of us, and I’m ready to put whatever plan is decided upon into action.
Awaiting your replies…
I have a couple questions and a couple observations.
[ul]
[li]I wouldn’t do any hard and fast deadlines of contacting people by Monday. People could be on vacation.[/li][li]Frank #2 checked in before me. Just sayin’…[/li][/ul]Ooo, neato. My first bullet points.
Count me in if there is room. I’m reliable if there are enough people to make 2 leagues. If not, then I volunteer to be cut. No hard feelings.
As I said before, I have no FF experience. Is there a FAQ somewhere I can read to get an idea of the rules?
Given my lack of experience, forgive my ignorance. But what does it matter how many people there are? Aren’t there over 500 starters in the NFL, not counting offensive linemen and special teams? Seems there should be plenty to go around. Also, the more people in the league, the bigger dropoff in talent between the first and second round of the fantasy drafts. Clearly I must be missing something, because the number of players seems to be a self-correcting issue.
I suppose there’s only so many QBs you’d want to draft, though.
What’s the general timetable, so I can be sure to check back when appropriate. TV has been sucking lately, so I’ve been Doping a lot more lately, but normally I only post once or twice per week. (Helps keep my interest fresh.) If I know something will be happening, though, I can certainly check in anytime.
