Upon ending my MA program - a reflective MMP

Yay! for Lucy feeling better, Rebo. Sounds like you’ve got a really good doc there. (And the shorthand for the shot includes a q; if you Google sub q, you get every variation possible on the spelling: sub q, subq, SubQ, subQ, sub-q, sub-Q and probably more that I’m forgetting.)

Welcome if2x! I’m always scared to try old favorites. There have been few things that I’ve tried that were still as good (Bill Knapp’s au gratin potatoes, now sadly unavailable as Bill Knapp’s went under; and, coincidentally, Fudgsicles) but a lot of times I’ve looked at the food and wondered what I ever saw in it.

I’m sure everyone can wait till 5 a.m. EDT, FCM. After all, they’re waiting for you. And, of course, there’s this perfectly good MMP to continue posting in.

How many days left, doggio?

I slept in!!! Only till 7:45 or so, but still, I got 8 hours of uninterrupted sleep. Wooooot!

I was up, rosie, just not online. Several of us would rather have been home, cuz it would really have been more fun.

Gotta say the decorations at the reception were really pretty. The cake was spectacular (very simple, but very pretty), I got to see part of the video of the actual wedding, there were a few pictures from the wedding. (Of course, I’ll get to see the video an pictures on other occasions if I want to.)

The problem was that the bride’s mom and I knew really few people and, even though a few people went out of their way to chat a bit with us, most of them felt they couldn’t have an extensive conversation with us. The bride’s mom isn’t super-fluent in English, so they assume they can’t have a real convo with her. (Personally, I think she’s just not a very confident English speaker.) And me, I was the invisible bodyguard. Unfortunately, we were seated among the groom’s Mom’s family (she was the one who organized the party), so the groom’s Dad, who was just as uncomfortable AND is magically able to converse with the bride’s mother, couldn’t hang out with us much. He came and sat down with us once the crowd had cleared, but by then we were ready to leave. There were a few fun moments (the groom and his friends serenaded the bride at one point; really funny since they only knew the refrain plus 5 words of the song, but sang enthusiastically anyway), but it would have been nice to condense the nice parts into about 1/2 an hour.

In short: Arggghhhhhhh.

Well, gotta get ready for church and the rest of the day. I think it’s supposed to be pretty out again, so hopefully I’ll get lots done.

Laterz.

DB, be careful about letting MzHellCat play with dental floss; if she eats it it can cause serious problems. And try Prilosec for the acid reflux - it has worked wonders for me.

My cats favorite toy is the ring off of the milk jug.

I’m upright but still not awake.

Oooh, I like Fudgesicles. At least I think I do. Welcome, interface!

I had a totally no-throwing-up day yesterday, and I’m hoping for the same again today. Attacks Husband came over and made me lunch yesterday, we hung out, and then Mr. Lissar and I went off to Mass. After church we met Driving Husband, Lazy Husband and QD, but she’s gotten the movie time wrong, so we went back to Lazy Husband’s and watched movies and hung around eating things.

There was supposed to be an 8 p.m. showing, but it wasn’t on for some reason, and the next one was at 10:20, which is too late for Lissla these days. We watched part of The Painted Veil which was very good. i recommend it. Sad, though.

Today is couch flopping, craft show visiting, and then work. Whee!

Oof! I knew it was going to be hot when I left for work this morning – a Hamsin was promised – but, just, wow!

Leaving work at 4 PM (Sunday is chauffeur-the-young-lady-to-music-lesson-and-back day,) I open the door of the building on my way out, and it’s like… well, like **FCM **forgot her kiln on and it’s venting right in my face

My car thermometer gleefully told me it was measuring 40 degrees. Celsius. In the shade. OK, I’m pretty sure it lies and the temp. was no higher than about 35.

Still.

Oof!

Morning, all. I am up and caffeinating quite late today because I was up far too late working on the latest batch of rush congressional [del]drivel[/del] hearings. This one is interesting, but still far too snooze-worthy. But for some reason I’m able to get more done late at night after everyone else has sacked out than I am any other time of day; I guess it’s just the lack of noise, TV and voices and barking and whatnot, that causes fewer distractions. But whatever the reason, I was up far too late and am still <yawn>ing this morning. Hence the caffeine.

It’s lovely here, too, FCM, so I’ve opened up our house as well. It feels delightful. I hope it doesn’t get too hot today; I still have a pile of work I need to get done today, and if it gets over about 76° in the house I get really, really uncomfortable, in spite of a small desktop fan I have that doesn’t blow my papers around but makes a huge difference in my comfort level. Yay for Sharper Image and their nifty little desktop fan.

<yawn>

Also, yay for a no-throwing-up-at-all day yesterday, LiLi! Here’s hoping you have lots more of them.

Welcome, i2x! You do know about the chocolate love offerings to FCM, right? Just shove 'em through the CD drive, that’s how we do all our MMP deliveries.

Yay for Lucy feeling better, Rebo! It’s always so sad seeing an animal or small children in pain, isn’t it? I mean, it’s sad for big people too, but at least they understand what’s going on. So good on you for getting her back to the vet and helping her feel better!

I got nuttin’ this morning. I just need to get back to the [del]drivel[/del] transcript, I guess.

<yawn>

ETA: That sounds unpleasant indeed, Special One! A warm wind is lovely when it’s cooling you up from below freezing, such as the Chinook wind that you get in the Pacific Northwest sometimes; I remember, when living in Walla Walla, Washington as a child, the temperature climbing 60°F in the space of about two hours! All the snow melted, of course, and there were floods, so it was quite dramatic. I still think that might be preferable to going from hot to hotter, however, like your hamsin!

Oh, I forgot the one interesting (?) thing that happened yesterday. Apparently we had an illiterate substitute mail carrier; people up and down the entire street are having to deliver mis-delivered mail to the correct person. We got mail for the folks four houses up the street, with a couple of pieces of our own mail mixed in, and this morning another guy brought over the majority of our mail that had been mis-delevered to him – including Alice’s newly issued Maryland car title!

I have a feeling the local postmaster is going to be getting an earful Monday. I’m certainly going to be delivering my portion of it!!

I had the same reaction to TastyKake products when I moved back to this area. When I was a kid, they were far and away my favorite treat. I find it hard to believe my tastes have changed so much. My guess is they switched to cheaper ingredients that were close but not quite the same.

Damned capitalists!!! :stuck_out_tongue:

I’m back home from the boat. I’ve got a page full of notes and measurements for the assorted covers I need to make. And I’ve got a van full of old parts and cushions and miscellanea. I’ll be reupholstering all of the cushions after I make the sail cover and pedestal cover and winch covers and new dodger (it’s the light blue thing in this pic). I’ve never made a dodger before, but I’m going to use the old one as a pattern and I’m pretty sure I can pull it off. Especially since a new one would cost about $1000 - seriously! I found a place to buy the window materials and the zipper components. So instead of bending over the pottery wheel, I’ll be bent over the sewing machine. My back aches just thinking of it…

So, it’s overcast and cool and in a few minutes, I’m going to pull out a 10 yard roll of cadet grey Sunbrella and start cutting and sewing. Go ahead - envy me! I dares ya!!!

Afternoon all! It’s been lovely and sunny today and I’ve been busy. This morning we went grocery shopping and then stopped off at the car supplies shop because I needed some wax for the car. I washed it yesterday and then noticed a couple of patches where the shine wasn’t as shiny as the rest - it’s had a bit more scrubbing on that part because it was the target of a pigeon with a very full bladder. So I now have a bottle of Turtle Way and I’m waiting for a good time to apply it. I planned to do it today but the sun’s on the front of the house right now and I need to wait until later when it’s moved round a bit.

After our shopping expedition, I filled the recycling bin with some branches from a lilac tree at the end of the garden that our neighbour had chopped down. The tree is right on the property boundary but it’s old and leggy, and the roots were coming up through the path in his garden. He and I had talked about removing or seriously cutting back the tree last year but it’s become so bad he decided it had to come out.

When we went out to cut the branches for the bin, I saw our resident stray cat asleep in the garden. He has been visiting a bit more frequently lately and is looking very thin and scrawny. I’ve been putting food out for him and yesterday I managed to get a worming tablet crushed into the food so at least I know he’s had some medication. I shall have to call in at the vet’s on the way home from work tomorrow to see what they have in the way of oral flea treatments because the little chap is probably infested by now.

In other news, the veg man brought me some rhubard again last week and I picked up some raspberries and blackcurrants at the supermarket so I’m now baking fruit cobbler.

Anybody got any bright ideas for what to do with the 4fl oz of buttermilk I’ve got left over?

Geez, you guys are busy this morning.

Rebo , after Cuervo’s first vaccinations, when he was still a wee thing, he came home and was sluggish and blah the next morning. I ran him over to the vet who figured it was reaction to the shot, gave him something to bring the fever down and I took him home. Next time before he was scheduled to get a vaccination, he went in early and got some kind of Benadryl-type thing to prevent the reaction and he was fine.

I was up early, made breakfast, had a quick trip to the library, started some laundry and in a while am going to head to the gym, then to a local place to see some friends’ band play.

It’s a couple of my friends, and back in the day when I had such a thing as free time, I used to hang with these two and pretend to write songs. I have NO musical talent, but a knack for writing lyrics and the occasional melody would pop into my head. A few years ago, the two of them hooked up with a moderately well known local musician through one of their cousins - who plays in the band with said local well known fella - and they started taking the music seriously. Which took more time of course and transformed me from part-time sort of bandmember to Fan.

Today they’re playing 1, possibly 2 of the songs I wrote, and on the 23rd, at a local fest, they’ll be on the beer garden stage, and play another one of mine.

I’ll be signing autographs after the show. :stuck_out_tongue:

Wife is staying home all day watching the entire season to date of the Sopranos, then at 8, watching the finale. Sheesh woman, it’s a TV show.

Well, I better get going, haze, we love you too!

Everyone else, appropriate yays, boos and pats on the fanny.

Buttermilk Cornmeal panckaes mmm - http://www.domesticgoddess.ca/recipes.php?recipe=10122

Waiting for my parents to come so we can go have brunch. So. Hungry!

Blasphemer!

ick ick ick ick ick ick ick
TICK!!!
I felt something on my leg and brushed it off. Something told me to look at what it was. It was a tick! ick ick ick ick ick ick

The tick was float tested - it failed. Now I feel all itchy. ick ick ick ick ick ick ick

Ewww! Ick! A tick! (Thank you for not bringing it in here, though.)

Don’t you wonder how it’s possible for one person to get mail delivery so amazingly wrong? Hasn’t happened here in a while, but I used to get neighbors’ mail regularly.

I’ve been to the grocery store to re-stock major parts of the pantry. Needed some basics like Cheerios, PB, and milk. Figured I’d stock up on fruit and veggies for lunch this week since I already had enough bread and yogurt from Wild Oats. Really need to clean the fridge. Maybe I’ll do that tonight if I get everything else done.

Just had a salad with tomatoes, basil, chives, and fresh mozzarella. Yum.

Need to do some cleaning up in here while shade moves into the places where I want to work outside. Also might go get some mulch. I’ll be going back over to church after a while to water (once graduation is over and people have generally cleared out of the campus area). Should be an exciting rest of the afternoon.

A little bit sleepy, for some reason. Maybe I’ll nap for a few first.

GT

I am sick. Really sick–fever (dunno how high, no thermometer). Couldn’t sleep last night due to fever. Feel like I was beaten up.

Did get some rest this morning (I have no classes today), and slept for 2 hours. Now I am up and my throat feels like a pit of pain.

I have to run some errands later and will likely be driving by that place at least once. I’ll make sure to wave. In fact, you may have to drive right by my apartment to get there, so make sure YOU wave.

I woke up this morning with a lovely cold sore. It hurts. I haven’t had a cold sore in ages. I think it started last night, so 9 more days of pain and hideousness. I suppose I’m lucky, my mother and brother get them in and around their nose, and usually end up with gigantic scabby things stretching from their nose around to the corner of their mouth. At least mine tend to stay small and discreet.

Something has been bothering me about my current assignment and I couldn’t quite figure it out, like an itch you can’t reach. What could it be? And then I figured it out. :smack: They’re, uh, how should I put this? Not as committed to diversity as I would expect. Ah, well. I’ll be out of there in 2 months, and on to better things.

We just took the Idiots out for a nice walk in the woods at one of the local parks. It was very pleasant. No ticks, either. (Although Papa Tigs did have something crawl up under his t-shirt bite him right on the tummy! )

The nicest part? I was able to walk probably a mile altogether, no problems whatsoever! Yay! for my new knee! But boo! for the fact that it is still popping. Every step: pop-pop, pop-pop. Nearly drives me to distraction. It also does that when I’m just sitting at my desk. Last night at one point I moved my leg and it popped so loud I heard it. The doctor assures me that it’s utterly harmless and completely unpredictable and there’s nothing to be done about it, and my therapist had one patient who got both knees done and had one that popped and one that didn’t. :dubious: My mother’s new knee doesn’t pop. :frowning: Does yours, Rosie? Presumably someday I’ll get used to it. Or it’ll finally send me round the bend and I won’t care any more.

I finished the congressional drivel, thank heavens. Now on to really exciting stuff: a conference on mergers and acquisitions in the grocery store business. Envy me my exciting life.

Hi everyone.

Congrats Haze!

I’ve been either way too busy or way too tired to even post in the MMP. In fact, I just spent the last hour or so reading through the entire MMP so I could figure out what was going on. I didn’t get a chance to read the MMP AT ALL until today.

I start in my new office tomorrow. I’m slightly nervous. I have an “office call” with my new senior rater at 0830. Ugh…

I really need to get going and get myself cleaned up. I’ve accomplished exactly nada today. So, hopefully, I can keep up with the MMP more and post more.

I know this post seems disjointed and short, but I’ve got rush off…again.

Appropriate welcomes, well wishes, hugs, commiserations, congrats to everyone.

Mwah!

Still beading…

Well, tomorrow’s MMP is in the, um, memory of my computer. I was going to say “in the can” but I knew someone would make a toilet joke, so I opted for a different wording.

Supper was yummerrific! I roasted a port tenderloin rubbed with the yummerific rub I posted upthread. Plus crinkle cut N.O.T. and corn and green beans. Ice cream a little later. Sopranos even later. Thus ends the weekend. <sigh>
