What happened today is, in a word, unacceptable.
We should first understand that what happened wasn’t an incident; it was the culmination of years of a false narrative. It’s the final (we hope) act of a fake reality play.
Today’s assault wasn’t perpetrated by the president. He encouraged it, and the republican political establishment encouraged it, but they didn’t actually commit the invasion. Ordinary people did.
If there’s a lesson for people reading this, it’s that we individuals have to decide just what the fuck we’re going to tolerate from other individuals, which is why I am fucking fed up with being nice and trying to “understand” these deluded fuckers. I refuse to understand them.

the root issue is entitlement. they feel they are superior and more authentic than everyone else and they deserve special treatment for it. they feel they are losing that special privilege based on religion, race and gender in a rapidly changing America. and they want to turn back the clock to protect their privilege. however functioning democracy does not allow this as the ‘others’ are rapidly growing in power and number.
Supposedly back in the late 70s about 81% of Americans were white Christians. last time I checked it was under 45%. everyone else is non white or not a Christian.

We don’t need to like them but understanding who they are so they can be defeated is important.

It wasn’t actually Lincoln who imposed reconstruction, most of which took place after Andrew Johnson finished out Lincoln’s term in 1868-9. It was the Republicans who got fed up with the South’s intransigence. Of course Reconstruction ultimately failed, owing to white supremacist terrorism which broke the will of mostly white and racist union politicians who were more interested in building economic bridges between the states.
But had they the will to finish the civil rights fight the way it should have been, racial healing could have taken place much earlier than it did. It took another 100 years before we even began healing in earnest.
They disqualified themselves by peddling a narrative that was known to be false, which in turn led to unprecedented civil unrest on the grounds of the federal legislature. I’m sorry if you’re too fucking dense to comprehend the connection between the two.

In case you’re as ignorant of history as you are of politics and basic reason, I used De-Trumpification as a complement to de-nazification in West Germany after WWII. Only leaders who actually had blood on their hands went to prison, while rank and file Nazis were deprived of various political and employment rights, most for relatively short terms. After today…we became one of those examples that will be used to warn other democracies about what could happen to them.
Maybe this is the kick in the rectum to knock the smugness and complacency out of us, and to push us to become more vigilant – I hope that’s true. But we’re in a very dark place right now, and we shouldn’t be under any illusions about our current failures.
