US Dopers: So, who has done their taxes already?

I have! Actually, my brother did them for me yesterday. Guess what his first Goverment job was.

IRS auditor.

BTW: I’m getting back about twice as much as last year. Yay! I already know where some of it is going too.[ul][]I broke our thermostat over the weekend. It’s the round analog type, still works but we don’t know where it’s set at now. []I also broke an old chair of Angie’s recently.[] A couple hundred is going toward my Visa balance. []Sim City 4 and possibly a couple others. Most of my refund is going in the bank.[/ul]

I’m mostly done - the federal one is done, but I’m really struggling with the Georgia part-year resident form. I understand the math and all, but I sure don’t get what they want me to put in each box. I’ve called, I’ve e-mailed…I’m about to give up and go to H&R Block tonight and just have them do the state return.

I haven’t even received my tax booklet and forms in the mail yet. Guess I’d better figure out who to call and bitch at…

Still waiting on my last W2 from my previous employer. Then I can Telefile and get my refund back toot-sweet.

Yep! Figured mine!!! Should be getting that refund pretty soon!

Done, but I couldn’t file the federal electronically. Mailed it off last week.

Telefiled, same day I got the W-2. In fact, taxes were filed within hours.

Refund goes into the Dogzilla’s 1st House Downpayment Fund. Your contributions would not be tax deductible, but greatly appreciated.

Well, it certainly feels like I just did them. Alas, tisn’t so.

Well, we’re getting $40 back from the great state of Illinois.

We’ll be applying that toward our federal tax payment of $8000+.

Still waiting on my W2 from the place the laid me off last year, as well as the W2 from the state on my unemployment. I have my W2 from my current employer.

I started and finished yesterday online, just need to submit electronically now…not getting as much back as last year…:frowning: :frowning: :frowning:

However, what we are getting is going toward framing costs on our garage…

Have my W-2’s, started on my taxes but I may have a bunch of exemptions that I need to file for having to do with my student loans. At least I think I do. I’ll have it done in the next few days.

Just got the last of my documents in last Thursday. I was out of town all weekend, so I’ll start working on them this afternoon. My goal each year is to break even - I don’t want the gov’t keeping my money and I hate having to write a check. But with my husband starting a new job in a state with state income tax, it’s going to be a pain to compute this year and I have no idea whether I’ll get a refund or not.

My Perfect Child[sup]TM[/sup] will be filing hers for the first time. I know it’ll be a thrill for her to get her money back. Doubt that she’ll be thrilled enough to take her poor mom out to dinner tho… <sigh>

I got my W-2 on Jan 14th and telefiled that day, my refund was mailed 01/31 according to the IRS (I checked this morning), I am booking hotels in Europe with my refund.

unclviny (who’s father was a tax accountant “if you owe the IRS, file in April, if the IRS owes you, file in January”)

I got my W2 in Saturday’s mail, and filled out the forms that night during Lawrence of Arabia. I will mail them this afternoon. If I’m getting a refund, I want it sent to me as soon as possible; if I owe money, it can wait `til April.

This is my second year with itemized deductions, and I think I’m getting the hang of it. Last year, I fussed and worried over the whole thing.

That’s why I started having my brother take care of my return. No worries.

Oh, yeah, that reminds me to add another item to my list:

•Take brother out to Chinese buffet place for dinner.

Done & electronically filed last week. Actually I’m expecting my refunds any day now.

My mom is a retired accountant, so she was of enourmous help last year, even though she lives in another state and we had to do most of the work over the phone. She also sent me a sample Schedule A with “Put this number here” notes on it.

This was my first solo.

Did mine using the turbotax online service, it’s very easy to use, I was most pleased. I should be filing electroncially tomorrow, need to get last year’s info together, apparently, and I also need my office printer to print out the records, since my home printer is on the fritz.

I figure the software thing is worth the $40 to keep my math straight and help make the process simple.

I used the Turbo Tax online site last night and filed electronically. I haven’t decided what I want to do with the refund yet.
