Welp, apparently he’s serious about retaking the Panama Canal. And renaming the Gulf of Mexico.
Buckle up, kids. This is going to get wild.
I watched the speech so you don’t have to. Overall, it was your usual stuff about how America is great and we will make it even greater. Yes he threw in a couple of things like renaming the Gulf of Mexico and taking back the Panama Canal but overall it was the usual feel good blather. He didn’t say anything new or surprising. There was no call to action for Americans; it was all about what he would do for his supporters.He clearly did not write it and he looked like he was too tired to go off-script much.
To me, this is very encouraging. Thanks for your report.
The inauguration that really sticks with me was Obama’s first in 2009. After 8 years of Bush, Obama getting elected felt like a big deal. I was in IT at the time and my company set up many of the conference and training rooms and allowed people to watch it. Evidently everyone streaming the inauguration put a noticeable strain on our internet.
I watched some of today’s and I am so disappointed. I don’t want to say that I hate Trump (I got Trump Derangement Syndrome, har har har) but I knew he was a pretty terrible person well before he ran the first time. It sickens me that so many people have been fooled and so many of the ones who weren’t are profiting over this.
I will take what hope I can from that. Maybe he’ll be too tired to do very much.
Though his supposed allies may do it for him.
Now for the important things. During the National Anthem everyone had their hand on their heart except Trump who was saluting. Carrie Underwood has a fabulous hair person. Her color was on point and the extensions almost looked real. However her eyelashes were insane. I think people are going to look back on the 2020s and wonder what they were thinking with the fake eyelashes.
Melania looked good but wore a hat that completely hid her face. I liked the hat but she was clearly hiding. Vance’s wife looked like she was in pain or being held hostage. I am wondering if she is going to continue to work.
Also having seen some of Trump’s female administration nominees I believe the “Trump look” is a combination of bad extensions, lip injections and buccal fat removal. Notably, Trump’s daughters don’t have this look. As an aside, Pam Bondi needs to fire her hairdresser. She had the worst highlights I have seen in a long while and I watch YouTube videos of people trying to bleach their own hair.
One more thing from Trump’s speech that struck me was that he talked about the LA fires and mentioned how wealthy and powerful people had lost their homes but mentioned nothing about the majority of people not in the elite who were affected.
I haven’t seen any pictures (and I’m not going to go look) but what are the odds this is a body double because Melania herself can’t be arsed anymore?

I usually watch for the pomp and pageantry (the same for the SOTU), but when the speaking starts I normally tune out. Except for Obama’s first inaugural speech.
This year I turned on the Disney channel, currently watching Fantasia.

The Alaskan natives will be restless if he renames Denali back to McKinley - just because he was around in the early Panama Canal days.
He talked about a Mars landing - but nothing about “before this decade is out” (JFK).

I didn’t watch it. It’s not as if there was any chance that an inspiring JFK-like inauguration speech would come out of the pie-hole of the Orange Doofus. I’m just praying that the first day is over without any major catastrophes. I will feel that way every single day for the next four years, and I know that many times my hopes will be dashed when horrible things do indeed happen. The best inauguration speech Trump could have given would have been to say, “after four years of my incompetent and malicious rule – and four years isn’t really all that long – the chances are we’ll probably all still be here, more or less intact”.*
* Immigrants excepted.
OK now Trump is speaking off script to his supporters and complaining about Biden’s pardons and all his usual complaints. He is now complaining about the J6 committee and more about Pelosi turning down 10,000 National Guard on January 6. Meanwhile Biden is talking about his administration and how much he appreciated everyone’s help.He is telling people to keep fighting and to stay engaged.
While we’re on that subject, did you catch the completely fake air-kiss he gave her? At least an inch between his lips and her cheek.
The deep and abiding love between Donald Trump and Melania is like the love between a young boy and a plastic model airplane – the one that he likes showing off to his friends pretending that he built it himself.
It’s probably in their updated contact that he’s hot allowed too get any closer.
Love Fetterman or hate him, but it’s a great look in keeping with the spirit of the occasion.
I thought hilarious the idea that those wealthy and powerful people are now homeless.
Or more recently Los Angeles, where we’re watching fires still tragically burn. From weeks ago without even a token of defense. They’re raging through the houses and communities, even affecting some of the wealthiest and most powerful individuals in our country, some of whom are sitting here right now. They don’t have a home any longer. That’s interesting.
