Useful Idiots: How many of you still think invading Iraq was a good idea?

For the Fourth Crusade that is.

Just put Iraq in the place of Constantinople.

Muslims took over Jerusalem? Lets invade Christian Constantinople! They have the richness to keep the fight going…

After the sacking of Constantinople:

  • Uh, shouldn’t you crusaders [del]get Osama [/del] go to Jerusalem?

  • [del]Osama who?[/del] Jerusalem what?

Osama? No - Hú Jǐntāo and Wen Jiabao! When Clinton bombed their embassy, it was just the most visible step in a secret war that’s been going for years. Osama was a pawn, just like Saddam and witnessed by fnord the letters in their names being a numerical anagram of the 17/23 correlation

(Bolding mine.)

Oh dear . . . (Scroll down to the bottom.)

Nice dinner, Italian if you must know. Fresh cart of cold antipasto, followed by spaghetti Carbonara by my ladyfriend, frutta di mare with angel-hair pasta for yours truly. Drinks: Three Presidentes for moi, two chilled house whites for the Lady in Green. Tiramisu and Amaretto for her, a simple expresso for moi.

Nota bene: No cava for this limousine liberal. Hell, I even drove my beatup, old '02 Camry.

Nice evening if I may say so myself.

Now, for the fun part:

Not to put words into one of the the SDs’ finests wordsmiths, but I might have gone for “bulemia” and/or “anorexic.”"

YMMV. Not doubting your response in any event.

GIGObuster,

Toosmart by half. Not only did you understand/interpret my OP, but you offhandledly dismantled El Cid Viscoso’s (Viscous Cid? WTF?!) lame attempt at a counter, but also showed your international awareness by knowing what RedFury stands for.

Outstanding. Not only because we’re basically in agreement, but because you’re much better capable in expressing yourself than I’ll ever hope to be. In English that is.

Muchas gracias y que Viva La Furia Roja!

Sorry 'bout team USA. Would’ve rather we’d done the job ourselves.

Cisco Thanks a ton… Though I doubt more than 30% of this crowd will bother clicking your (most excelent) link.

Madame Defarge,

Stick around Madame. Your wry wit’s already gotten to one or two.

Me likes that.

Not worthy of a response. Thus I’ll refrain from one.

Keep kanwing on your bones troglodyte, I’ll stick to my biscuits

Have no clue whre you got that idea. Certainly couldn’t have been from anything I’ve read or seen from ya.

::shrug:::

Yaawn (apologies), 'nuff fun for one nite. 'fraid some of you are just gonna have to bear with the suspense.

Sweet Dreams – Useful Idiots included.

Who knows, you might have learned something 2nite.

Hey if Jesus can cure the blind and I am made in his semblance, who says I can’t cure the Useful Idiots?

Nite, nite.

Hey, watch it or Frank will close this thread.

It’s espresso.

Here, in the U.S., it’s espresso. In other places, most notably the Sugar Shack, but possibly others, it’s expresso.

Ya know, if it were anybody else but Red Furry, I’d suspect that the whole thing is just a set up so he could brag about his date.

Thirty percent? I don’t think anyone has clicked on it.

What everyone seems to be basing their hijacks on is that these threads are so common (am I right, or is there something I don’t know about the OP? - that’s my second guess.) I read the pit in spurts, and have been avoiding the Iraq threads for awhile, but seeing that article earlier in the same day attracted me to this thread.

I guess I should known better.

While I appreciate your thoughtful response, GIGO, I would have hoped that after all this time you would have taken it in the manner in which it was offered: as an encapsulation of Joe Sixpack’s worldview. That said, I must object to the tone of part of your response.

With all respect, this sounds almost painfully Orientalist, even bigoted against the Shia to say that Iran and Iraq would ever become a Shiite bloc. In many respects, the traits of the Iranian Shia (modernity and quasi-secularism) are more aligned to the merchant culture of the Iraqi Sunni. Further, it seems to omit the relevance of the Kurds.

As for the common sectarian violence and savagery now ahold of southern Iraq, I hope you don’t think the Coalition Incursion was the source. It’s always been there, festering below the surface. Saddam was the only thing keeping the Sunni and Shia from outright Civil War. It will take time and rivers of blood, but ultimately Iraq will be the regional cerberus in a modern and globally-relevant Middle East.

I read it back in 2003. Thanks for the trip down Memory Lane.

“So yes, Bush came to power by a kind of coup d’état. But it was a constitutional coup d’état. The system has been asking for trouble for years.”

Yeah, I think I do – 'cept I seem to have this knack for finding volunteers as opposed to mags and toys. Must be a lib’rul thang. Having said that, if this is your sole contribution to this particular thread, might I suggest you partake of your own advice and take matters in hand?

Cisco

No arguing this particular topic’s been done to death. However, it has been a while since it was last discussed. And things have clearlly only gone downhill since.

What drove me to start the thread was partly due to this article, Iraqi Casualties Increase by 1,000 a Month, and partly due to the fact that I am amazed that there are people still defending this unimaginable carnage.

Couple of more headlines indicative of the circumstances:

Iraq on brink of civil war: Pentagon report

Car Bomb and Rockets Kill 43 in Baghdad’s Shiite Strongholds

Asian pilgrims killed as Bush denies civil war in Iraq

Kurdistan president replaces Iraqi flag

Goats and Hussars: A British Harbinger of American Defeat

Nota bene: those are just from today.

Truth be told, between you and a thousand others, I did embellish just a tad. Woman’s a Real Estate lawyer and we were carving out some last minute details on a deal.

She is, however, just like me, happily divorced. And unlike me, she’s lot’s prettier and has tons of real hair on her head.

What more could a guy ask for?

This would have come across as a lot more withering if it hadn’t taken you thirteen and a half hours to come up with it.

I just opened this thread, and first thing I did when I saw your link was to click on it. I didn’t even read the next post; I figured what Dawkins had to say in early 2003 was probably more interesting than what people in the rest of the thread were saying now.

I was right. Thanks for sharing!

Who knew before March 19, 2003?

**emphasis added

Of course I made the point then that only an idiot would invade now since inspectors were finding some missiles that were not kosher AND THE IRAQIES WERE DESTROYING THEM. The evidence for other weapons was not coming up, and as events showed, the timing of the invasion coincided with the realization that Saddam was bluffing and the USA intelligence was a shitty one because of political moves of the Bush administration. Bush invaded anyhow.

Later investigations showed that the weapons we did go to war for were not there.

That’s just like you Republicans. Don’t you know that fezes are so last year?

And I hope she doesn’t plan on wearing the same thing next Friday. Cone-breasted bustiers are right out after Labor Day.

So is it already that time of month again RedFury? Remarkable apt chosen name btw.

Let me guess…you’re divorced, right?
