The cutting motions don’t exactly suggest shallow cuts, though. I sort of assumed they were cutting straight through both layers of skin. Maybe deeper, since it’s not like precision would be that important when the goal is for the victim to be in a lot of pain and then die. (Honestly, those cuts looked to me like they were just splitting the gut and viscera wide open.)
