Well Tyler’s secret turned out to be pretty mundane, or is it? His dad isn’t biodad, but Erica insists she never cheated on her husband. Did either of them ever bother getting a DNA test after the blood-type thing? It’s not like paternity tests weren’t widely available 3 yrs ago.
I’m glad Georgie was killed off. Not because I didn’t like the character, but because it makes a hell of alot more sense than trying to rescue him (which he knew, probally the Aussie guy too). They even set it up to look like he was going to ask Father Jack for the Last Rites or something. BTW why was Father Jack wearing clerical clothing when they were basically undercover? :dubious:
Anna’s [del]birthing[/del] spawning scene was pretty cool. It explains how she could lay so many eggs at once. Less like a reptile and more like an amphibian or fish (though w/ internal fertilization). Of course it also underscores wow widely different the Visitors reproductive biology is from ours and make’s even less plausible (if that’s even possible) that Ryan was able to get his human girlfriend pregnant accidentally.
I’m behind in my V watching. Just watched last week’s episode on DVR, and was settling in to watch this week when the phone rang. Old friend, recent drama, yadda yadda…and I’ll have to watch it later.
Anna’s eggs need a place to incubate - I think that’s the reason she has invited the fertile yet damaged people to live aboard her ship. She’ll “heal” them so they can be pregnant, but they’ll actually be carrying her tadpoles.
That raises 2 questions - like you mentioned in the OP - Ryan shouldn’t have been able to impregnate his girlfriend. I wonder if that’s why he looks so puzzled - if technology is required to create hybrid babies then who deposited the tadpole without his approval?
Second - is Tyler a tadpole that was deposited into Erica by her former V assistant?
Probably not. They were partners for 7 or 9 years, but Tyler is 17. So, probably not. Plus, from what we’re seeing with Ryan’s tadpole, I’m guessing she would have had some weeeeeeeird pregnancy stuff going on.
I wonder where they’re going with Chad Decker. The original series & miniseries had plenty of collaborators like Daniel Bernstein or Eleanor Dupres who were irredeemable scum. It’d be intersting to see Chad being seduced (in more ways than one) by Anna & the Vs and for him to keep collaborating with them in spite of whatever dirty secrets he uncovers just to advance his own career.
Keep in mind, Anna’s the queen, and she specifically said she’s making soldiers (or an army or whatever) so maybe that’s not normal Visitor reproduction, just a special case.
I voted “Liked it” this week. Lil teeny bopper lizard girl is just as evil as her mama, and easier on the eyes.
As for the actor playing John Mays…I guess the V have a pyramid team?
Joshua is gonna get himself made into nice boots and a belt if he keeps offing resistance agents on cue.
I renew my standing objection to the ships being parked over major cities, and the apparent lack of government/military involvement. Still, I’ll be watching next week. Or at least DVRing.
The overpowering music. It is constant. The show never has room to breathe.
The (almost) lack of shadows in the motherships. I understand why they have done this, but it really does mean that it ends up looking like incredibly dodgy CGI with the actors copy+pasted onto a background.
Yeah. The special effects can look pretty cheesy at times. These are the times I wish they would just turn the camera and let us hear sound effects and let our minds fill in the images.
Yeah, I thought the secret about the son was going to tie more closely into the Visitors, but at this point it doesn’t look like it. Of course, these shows always have plenty of twists.
Still fun to watch. Although, the show has lots of competition with shows I like. I am glad they replay Justified so much.
I liked it. Well, I liked enough to keep watching the series. It’s OK, overall, but I not confident it won’t take a tailspin before the season ends. Are the ratings good enough for this get renewed next year?
Yes and no. It has roughly the same ratings as Flashforward, and word is that ABC renew one of the two, but not both. So figure a 50/50 chance at a second season.
Morena Baccarin’s neck muscles are getting quite the workout. She looks like she is elongating her already swan-like neck to appear more lizardy.
Some theories: I think the V’s evolved as a parasitic species that live inside another host organism. (We saw in this episode another alien species that crawls into humans) Maybe on their home planet, there is a humanoid or monkey-like creature that the Vs crawl into, then slowly hollow out and inhabit. Once they are inside, they cannot survive without a “skin” so this is why skinning is a dreaded punishment.
In order to live on Earth, the first Vs inhabited living humans. But now they use their advanced technology to clone humans, then inhabit those clones.
If so, then reproduction with humans make sense because a male’s external reproductive glands would be part of the shell and would function normally. As the V continues to inhabit the skin, there may be co-mingling of DNA, which would explain why the sperm results in a partly V-like child.
Note that John May is male with a female wife and a son with a human appearance. Not sure if James May is his biological, partly V child. This also means a coupling between Tyler and Lisa would probably not result in a child unless the writers add some technological help to the plot.
Oh, and John Mace Lives! (apparently evidenced by 3 posts upthread)
That he does. That they have the same last name just means John May was with his mother long enough to adopt him.
The skinsuit connects with their nervous system (which is why they can feel things). Skinning is so dreaded because it’s pure agony; presumably they also have the ability to remove someone’s skinsuit anaesthesia for individuals not being tortured. In TOS the skin was basically just latex and could be peeled off with no problem.
But at least twice we’ve had the same scene: “good guy” lizard strapped to the table, untouched. Doctor Lizard picks up strangely shaped scalpel and makes motion to cut into the GGL’s skin in the chest area. Camera pulls away but the GGL starts to scream instantly.
There isn’t time for the human skin to have been painlessly removed. It has to be that cutting into the human skin that causes pain.
