Well we now have confirmation from Diana how the Visitors reproduce. And Anna’s apparently going though Visitor menopause and Lisa’s now the only fertile Visitors in the fleet. And fertility seems to be linked to Bliss and the ability to control the fleet. Which means there’s probally no way for Anna to stop Lisa from becoming Queen soon. Even if Lisa does turn into an evil bitch like mommy I bet it won’t stop her from locking her up in a dungeon.

Didn’t like the Ryan storyline, just kill him and the damn baby already. Or the crap about souls. Or the lack of half-naked Tyler. Did enjoy [del]Terry[/del] Malik’s cover getting blown. Erica already new she was a V, right? So now Malik nows that Erica knows.

Generally enjoyed the episode. Loved the skin-spraying and baby being fed by regurgitated rat. Liked that there is a global underground resistance but our team isn’t connected to them yet, and may even have to oppose them. Didn’t get why Anna is infertile. We saw her lay a shitload of soldier eggs. Is that a different process than birthing hybrids? Still finding the stuff with her mother interesting. Laughed at the notion that Joshua will try to somehow dissect the ‘soul’ in his lab. Also was surprised that Erica’s partner’s gig is up so soon. But in a good way. Still can’t figure out if her superior is a V or not though.

I think the biggest flaw in the show is how lucky the team has been not being surveilled. The Vs have cameras everywhere, and hidden agents everywhere. They know where Ryan lives. And the priest is not exactly shy about being against the visitors, he has a video blog! The other guy is a wanted criminal. And although the one V they sent to kill scientist guy was taken care of it’s not like Anna doesn’t still know about him (or at least mistakenly still his Professor). Any of those four being spotted with Erica should cause her extreme trouble.

I liked most of the episode, but to this hardline atheist all that soul stuff was insufferable so I had to vote Didn’t Like It.

Darn, really shouldnt read the spoilers. Second season wont be around here till a few months.
BTW, Malik is the Indian chick? Am I the only one that finds her hot?

Well we still don’t know how old Anna actually is. She might be at the end of her reproductive years and that was her last batch of eggs. Or maybe Lisa’s approaching fertility is somehow making Anna barren. Mayve it’s impossible for 2 or more Visitor queens to be in close proximity for any amount of time without one of them suffering negative side effects like infertility.

I don’t know why I keep watching this show. It’s soooo bad sometimes. I never knew my soul and capacity for love was in my skin before… thanks, V! The callbacks to the original show were cute, though, both with Diana and the rat (finally!) also good to see the visitor partner “outed”. And nice to see some indication of what the V’s are up to, even if it makes no real sense (how do they breed on their home planet? by shagging the wildlife? Anna has a daughter and had a few hundred soldier kids. now she’s infertile all of a sudden?)

Also, Diana seems remarkably sane, well-fed, and clean for a 15 year shut-in living in a dark, swamplike chamber. WTF?

Also, it seems like the writers think that calling attention to the characters’ poor choices makes them ok. (i.e. “lampshading”) “We shouldn’t trust Ryan because he’s a V and they have his kid.” No SHIT, so don’t trust him! “I preached war against the V’s, but I never thought people would bomb them!” No SHIT! etc., etc.

Wow. They managed to make an even worse episode than last week’s. That is impressive.

He effects on the rat eating were cringeworthy.

Alien lizards with cloned human skin? OK. Souls? OMG so unbelievable!!!

That said, the way they handled the soul stuff was pretty dumb, but not simply for addressing the concept of the soul.

Yeah, that CGI was downright awful. The practical effects version of Visitors eating rodents in the original 80’s miniseries was a lot more convincing. This version just looked silly, almost cartoonish.

Agreed. just because you can do something with CGI doesn’t mean you should.

Yes, exactly. This is what I was talking about.

However…

Since you put it this way, yes, alien lizards with cloned human skin is infinitely more believable than anything supernatural. From my point of view, there is nothing separating Christianity from any other religion. How insufferable would it have been if, instead of souls, they were going on and on about, say, Zeus and how stealing his lightning bolt was the only way to defeat humans? Would you really counter that aliens with cloned human skin were just as unbelievable as the Greek gods being real?

Hey, I’m a Christian and this episode had me rolling my eyes too. I’m puzzled by the line about all creatures being able to feel God’s love, though. Are there churches that advocate bringing your pet with you to services? And if animals have souls too, which is what he was getting at, is heaven going to be full of hamsters and goldfish?

Well…yes. But, at least from the V side, they were using the term in the artistic, rather than supernatural sense. The priest used it in a more supernatural context, but…well… he’s a priest. So…

Right? I was thinking along those lines as well. While I rolled me eyes, it seemed to me to be potentially offensive to believers, or at least really annoying. That’s some impressively universal stupidity right there.

There are plenty of churches that bless animals or which will do other rites for them, even if the animals aren’t welcome during regular mass. I really don’t understand the eye rolling. I’m an atheist, and not by any means an animal advocate, but regardless of what people want to believe about the origin (supernatural or biological) of certain abstract phenomena (love, hope, faith, etc.), the experience itself remains incontrovertible. Anyone who has spent any amount of time with animals knows that whatever ‘spark’ living things have, animals have some amount of that, even if at a lower capacity. It’s hard for me to believe that those who are religious and believe in the concept of ‘feeling God’s love’, or alternately those who aren’t religious and attribute this experience to certain brain activity, somehow find that this experience cannot translate to other lifeforms, even if in a diminished or altered capacity. Especially if those lifeforms are humanoid!

If there was indeed a heaven, why wouldn’t it be filled with hamsters and goldfish? And if humans can ‘feel God’s love’, why can’t other sentient and sapient aliens?

I’m sorry, but the answer is no. Heaven is for people.
