"V" Pilot Tonight — [Open Spoilers after it airs]

Are you kidding? They’ve got like some 15 story buildings and stuff!

-Joe

Wasn’t she in the UN building? It wouldn’t be the NYPD or the Secret Service. It’d be UN security.

Anyone else notice that the address of the meeting building was “4400”? Nice nod to Joel Gretsch.

slight hijack:

loved the first scene in this weeks Castle!

no spoiler.

All firefly fans check it out.

Which was what? Mrs. Plant watches it, but she hails from New York and stopped the recording to watch baseball.

Grandmother? Good lord, she’s not that old.

Is she?

Man, Evil Kira was the hottest thing ever on television - grandmother my ass, that’s the role Nana Visitor should reprise.

52, so technically old enough to have a grandkid.

Also, young enough to be a teenager’s parent - she has a 14 year old son.

Yes. The Dope is a cruel mistress.

Word.

I’m trying to figure out which is more likely: V will mimic the old TV show and give us human-lizard hybrids (there were twins, one lizard-y looking at birth and immediately died, the other human-like) OR Eastwick will follow the end of the movie and all three witches will be knocked up by the devilish character.

If neither show is cancelled right away, I predict one or the other will happen.

By Gad, Sir, I may change my sig.

I’m hoping there is still going to be a big reveal and I’m hoping it goes something like this:

The reason that the Visitors already have agents on Earth is because this is all happening in the same universe as the original series. After being defeated by humanity the first time, they left Earth in order to regroup and find a way to create an permanent immunity to the bacteria the humans used to defeat them. Before they left they used an “amnesia ray” to make everyone forget what happened, with the exception of the sleeper agents they left behind, the fifth columnists who defected and some humans who were immune to the “amnesia ray”. And now that they are back they are taking a different approach to world domination. Plus they’re pissed.

That’s lame, Dude.
You wouldn’t be whoosing the 'Plant, would you, however one spells it?

What are you trying to sell us here? Everyone knows that it’s government agencies, not aliens, who mind-wipe people!

So you’re saying Nana Visitor would not make a good Visitor Nana?

Get out.

Dumb question and a very minor point. The initial speech from the alien leader mentioned that they were here to borrow/buy/steal a “commonly available mineral”. How come no one bothered to ask which mineral, how much they want and why?

In three pages, no one has posted about my favorite line in the show. Near the beginning, shortly after the Visitors arrive, they show a TV with a crazed man-on-the-street interview. This young guy yells into the camera “Dude, it’s totally like Independence Day in real life!”

Remember when the movie Independence Day totally ripped off the original V with its giant flying saucers hovering over cities? Now, we have the new V ripping off Independence Day which ripped off old V.

Well, I thought it was funny.

That’s pretty funny.

IMHO, the show seemed to be shot/written/edited/whatever with the expectation that everybody watching it will be familiar with the original series, so they didn’t even try with the element of suspense. So I found it rather boring.

I found it hard to tell the V’s and people apart - I thought for a while that Anna walked into the UN alone.

The appeals to the more craven side of David Frost (or whatever the characters name was) about his career fell rather flat. The guy has to be the dumbest shiite around to want to work for a “boss” who (1) is an alien species with unknown motivations, and (2) argues for the sacrifice of professional and ethical principles so baldly… and so lamely.

Oh it was even better than that, the guy next to him pointed out that Independence Day was itself a rip off of other Sci Fi stories.
