I’ve seen the V miniseries (well, both of them) and the original tv series, but haven’t really seen the new show, so for those of you who have, I have a question. How are the Visitors in the new show different than the Visitors in the old show/miniseries. I assume they’re still lizard people.
So I take it nobody’s seen both the miniseries and the new show?
I hope that we have 4 more threads like this, so that the last one could be “V v. V V”
And, yes, I stole it from that Daily Show book. But it was a great little joke.
For all intents and purposes they are the same. Lizard people wearing human meatsuits ingraciating themselves into human society for their own nefarious purposes.
Some of the differences:
The new aliens are more pale, however they don’t have an aversion to sunlight (no Blueblocker[sup]TM[/sup] sunglasses or speaking with weird voices.
The new aliens wear mostly business attire instead of an ubiquitous red jumpsuit.
The new aliens appear to be more socialist than facist space Nazis.
In the original series, the motivations of the aliens were pretty clear - harvest humans for food / cannon fodder for their armies and drain our resources. The motivations of the new aliens still remains unclear.
We’ve only seen the new aliens fight with knives and drones that shoot darts. No “superior” space guns that shoot glowing balls of light with a slow rate of fire making a loud BWOOOOOSHHHH!!! sound.
In the original series, the aliens couldn’t pass for human because of their voices. In the new series, they have been secretly living among us for years.
And unlike the original skinsuits these skinsuits consist of actual cloned flesh, not latex. It’s intergrated with the Vs’ nervous system which is what makes “skinning” such a dreaded punishment. It also includes fully functional genitalia.
Conversly humans could easily pass as visitors by using a voice modulator. Of course when the series came out the pitch shift was dropped with no explanation whatsover and Visitors could pass as human with ease.
On the new show, the Visitors are called “V’s” unlike the original, where the title V came from an entirely different source.
Also, Visitors are (or are supposed to be) emotionless. Getting human emotions means they’re dirty traitors and have to be given a pill that immolates them (and their clothing and shoes, for some reason, but nothing else is damaged). In the original, they were anything but emotionless. Diana always seemed to be in some sort of moody rage.
“5th Column” now refers to both the rebel Visitors and anti-Visitor humans, in the original it was only applied to the rebel Visitors, with the humans being the Resistance, IIRC.
None of the characters are the same, but there are some similar plot points, like a human carrying a lizard baby, and one of the resistance leaders having a kid enthralled with how cool the Visitors are.Nothing too major in there, not any GIANT TWISTS or anything, but just in case, I added the tags.
