Vaccination Status Poll

Those are both traditional inactivated virus vaccines, right? I’m surprised we don’t have any of those in the US. We seem to have very heavily on new tech.

Maybe because those aren’t working very well?

We didn’t know that when we placed our bets, though. And most days I’ve seen suggests the Chinese killed-virus vaccines are good enough too meet the WHO’s approval threshold.

(Whether that threshold changes as we get other vaccines is hard to say. It’s not as if the world has a surplus of vaccine, so i doubt it, at least for EUA.)

Everything I read said efficacy rate was close to 50%. But I think it did pass WHO approval in the end.

Maryland opened registration to adults 16+ a couple of weeks ago. I put my wife and I on the list. I work for the DoD so I have some options there, but as yet I had to miss the first round of shots for reasons, so now it’s more a matter of seeing who comes through first, them or Maryland.

If you’re anxious to get a shot, you should be more proactive rather than waiting for your name to come up on a list. If you don’t mind waiting, no big deal. Can you go to the, for example, Costco or CVS web page and try to make an appointment on your own? I don’t know where exactly you are but I just checked Baltimore and you can get a Moderna vaccine tomorrow at CVS.

I know, thanks. I’m not in a rush. My wife and I are basically home 24/7 and our contact with the outside world is extremely minimal. We’re content to wait our turn and let everyone who is very concerned go ahead.

This is not out of character for either of us. We’re not “must see the movie on opening night” people, we’re “wait a couple of weeks and let the crowd die down” people, if you know what I mean.

It’s an appointment for a vaccine, so I don’t get what you mean. It is your turn if you can get a vaccine tomorrow. What does waiting get you?

What don’t you understand? What I signed up for wasn’t actually making an appointment, it was simply entering my info into the system, and they will notify me when they are ready for me to make an appointment. They are calling it “pre-registration.” I could go and actively seek a vaccination somewhere, but I’m fine just waiting to be called.

Well, I fail to see how it’s like going to a movie and if appointments are going unfilled you aren’t doing anyone any favours by “waiting your turn”. It’s obviously a personal choice but after a year of covid, I find “what’s the rush?” a thoroughly foreign mindset. Lol.

Are appointments going unfilled?

If there’s appointments open for tomorrow, it’s a safe bet. The mass vacc sites apparently opened up for walk ins a little over a week ago.

Well, i am also anxious to achieve herd immunity, and would like everyone to get vaccinated ASAP. My husband is “waiting his turn”, or really, waiting to join the big waiting list, because he wants the people with more exposure than him to have a shot at getting an appointment, first. But we only open to healthy adults under 55 tomorrow. So there are still a lot of people here who haven’t had a chance to sign up.

My younger friends on the big waiting list are beginning to get appointments, though, so i hope my husband will start looking soon.

Well, if my wife was saying that, I’d pull up the Costco or CVS appointment site and ask “so, you really think that empty 2:30 appointment tomorrow is going to get filled by someone with more exposure than you?”

When Ohio opened up to all adults over 40, I spent a while trying to find an open appointment. Costco, Kroger, a few others. For some reason, you had to pick a site you wanted to get vaccinated at, and then find out if they had any availability. This is after having to set up a user account and login.

This is further compounded by me not having a very flexible schedule. I really can’t just take time off.

Then I found Walgreens. They had by far the best system for setting up appointments, and even listed locations that were available, rather than having you check each one. You could search for the day you wanted, and it would tell you what locations had appointments that day.

I had to drive about half hour to get to one that had availability, but that’s not too bad. Had my first shot a few weeks ago, get my second tomorrow.

All of my local friends who have scored CVS appointments have done so by either repeatedly hitting the website (Walgreens) or logging in exactly at midnight, starting via a different state (CVS). So that’s not a compelling argument. Perhaps next week or the week after.

Do you live in Maryland? I assume it’s different everywhere. I mean, hajario said he just looked and saw appointments for tomorrow in Baltimore. He didn’t log in at midnight.

No, i don’t live in Maryland.

Yes, it’s different everywhere.

Apparently Maryland opened to 16+ a couple weeks ago. My state opens to them tomorrow.

Well, tomorrow you can ask your husband if he thinks 16 yr olds need the vaccine more than him. :yum:

He thinks they do. They are more likely to be going to bars and generally spreading it than he is. And all the thirty-something with kids at school (who become eligible tomorrow, as well) have a lot more exposure than he has. We can all work from home.
