Vaguely Ominous Corporate Slogans

GE used to have “We Bring Good Things to Life,” which I always found sort of creepy in a Voodoo sort of way.

DuPont had the
“Better Things for Better Living Through Chemistry”.

Which was immediately rendered as “Better Living Through Chemistry”.

Ah, Psychedelics… how I miss ye!

Probably my faulty memory, but a while back I seem to remember a number of airplane crashes being American Airlines jets. Then I’d hear their TV ad: “We’re American Airlines, doing what we do best.”

I came in to mention this. The first nightmare I can ever recall having as a very young child was about that damn eye.

Check out the poster on the wall in the bottom left panel of this “mock” comic.

And cringe.

Although 7-Up knew exactly what they were doing with that, the whole ad campaign was based around the pitchman delivering the tagline earnestly and everyone being shocked/angry/offended/amused by it. Wasn’t really accidentally humorous or threatening so much as it was designed to be taken “the wrong way.”

I find the new “M.D. Anderson [del]Cancer[/del] Center” name to be disturbing.

The [del]Cancer[/del] thing suggests to me that they’ve given up on treating/curing cancer, and instead are focusing on more profitable areas like weight loss and breast augmentation.

Truth in advertising! (confession: I love Cheez Whiz, but am not quite sure it’s actually food).

Not to mention they are one of the largest defense contractors.

What’s the source of that comic, burpo?

^ National Lampoon, April 1972, Vol. 1, #25 (25th Anniversary issue) [I must have had a reprint issue from much later, as I wasn’t reading NatLamp in '72].

Am I in trouble? This is vaguely ominous.

“Commie Plot Comics” - Doug Kenney; Illustrated by Frank Springer

I was always creeped out by the English pubs with the word “COURAGE” emblazoned over their front door. It’s like, “Abandon hope, all ye who enter here.”

“kceasy” old file sharing network after napster. My son said it meant “case easy.”
