Valar Hiatus: The Game of Thrones offseason thread

OTOH, he looks as old as my 76-year-old stepfather.

And he throws like a girl.

…who has palsy and has never, ever thrown a ball before.

Now you can play at the Game of Drones

The Queen’s Guard band recently played the GOT theme at Buckingham Palace. This Rolling Stone article includes links to a number of other interesting covers of the song: Queen’s Guard Performs ‘Game of Thrones’ Theme Song – Rolling Stone

As it is the off-season, I decided to start re-reading the books. Honestly, I just couldn’t do it. Where there was once enthusiasm and wonder, I was mostly feeling like I was just slogging through. And I didn’t even get out of the first book before stopping and switching to other books instead.

That saddens me a bit.

I can hear it now:

Get it off on the left y’all, get it off on the right y’all HODOR! HODOR!

Additions to the season five cast announced at Comic-con today, including Jonathan Pryce (Brazil, Pirates of the Carribean) and Alexander Siddig (Deep Space Nine).

Great news on both counts! I saw Jonathan Pryce as Trigorin in The Seagull in London in 1985, and later had the chance to meet him. A very talented guy, but shy in person.

I love both those actors.

The casting choices have been so consistently good so far that I have no doubt that any additional actors will do an excellent job.

I’m really looking forward to see how next season deals with the challenge the rather twisted structure of AFFC and ADWD presents. My one hope is we don’t get too much more of the Ramsey Bolton arc. It’s been my least favourite part of the series so far.

I think, starting in the next season, the show will be veering off the course of the books significantly.

I don’t expect to see much of the Greyjoys (if any, and this will be a shame, if so), Quentyn Martell going to Essos (which is fine with me – I thought that storyline was mostly pointless), and maybe not even Jon Connington and the new Aegon (or this may just be postponed). But whatever they do, I have faith in the showrunners – I don’t have a problem with story changes/cut characters on principle, as long as the changes work for the show.

Craig Ferguson ran the Game of Thrones panel at Comic Con. Here’s Part 1–that links to Part 2…

My favorite part of the panel:

A Dornish casting controversy?: 'Game Of Thrones' Season 5 Is About To Upset Fans In A Major Way | HuffPost Entertainment

I think it would be odd, considering they’re apparently giving the sand snakes a lot to do, but I’m not sure it’s actually all that big of a deal. Dorne really hasn’t mattered at all yet, even though they spent a whole book there.

Wasn’t Tristane the expected heirm since Arianne was supposed to be married off? They might have just fudged the character notes.

This is from back in April, but it doesn’t look like anybody posted it:
