Vampire Survivors: Fun indie, rogue-lite game with 72,000 "Overwhelmingly Positive" reviews on Steam, costs $3

The newest level is very strange. I won’t spoil it for anyone but I don’t have a clue how to get the achievement for it.

New level spoiler:

You need to get to the end of the corridor, where you’ll find a crucifix - not the weapon, the random drop that kills everything on the screen. This kills the flying eyeball that’s been chasing you, and grants the ability to see hidden items in the other levels.

It took me a few tries, but eventually found that the new hero from the last update, Concetta, did the trick. Her drill trail kills stuff coming up at you from behind, and you can stop to fire it forward to clear front enemies (and candelabras - you’ll need all the chicken you can find to get to the end)

Similar strategy, I used Gennaro and his knives to break the candelabras.

ok I have all but 2 done the 31 minutes ones but it says there are 6 I haven’t done … so is there going to be 4 more? or is there an update I’m missing??

Either it’s a one-time thing once completed or perhaps random. Since I went back to the level and it didn’t happen again. (I used Poe and was pretty worried)

What is saying this? Your collection? Your achievements? I would guess it’s the new item stuff, but that’s just a guess. (Those new items are quite the pain, imo, and I’m not sure are worth it)

If you’re talking about the difference between the game and Steam, Steam has 5 secret achievements.

I have to assume killing death is one of them.

Yeah I tried it on Gamepass and wound up playing it all evening. The next day bought it on Steam so I could play it on Steam Deck. Runs great there.

It’s not.

I can’t even get my coffee for $3.00, it costs $3.50! LOL

I’m actually completely caught up with the achievements and secret characters. After putting Toasty off, and then needing a couple tries was more effort than either of the newest ones.

I do have a simple strat for anyone trying to hit 31 minutes on a map. At the moment it seems all you really need is the Evolved Laurel. I was going for other stuff on Level 3 when I also got the laurel among my rather mediocre build, and I lasted to 34 minutes. In think a better constructed build would last even longer.
Saying that, actually getting the laurel evolved is quite a lot of work, especially if you wait to have full accessory slots before the evolution parts that are always on the map. So you still have to figure out when to go for them, or take a speedy character.

There are map specific strats too I’ve looked up and used, but the laurel evolution does seem to be the simplest in setup and steps to take.

There’s a new Arcana in the last update that makes it really easy to get the parts you need.

There’s been a recent update with a “final boss” added, and a new super Death that appears at 32 minutes now that just kills you instantly after zooming in. (Do not pass go, do not collect any i-frames)

I also downloaded Holocure a day ago and it’s a different take on the genre. Its a fan made game based on the Hololive VTuber group. And it has a lot less content than Vampire Survivors. (10 characters, 1 stage, 35 pickups*) However it’s free on itch.io and the gameplay and weapons are rock solid. It also has different mechanics and some stuff Vampire Survivors doesn’t have. (Character weapons have directionality, each character has 3 skills that are unique to them, you can get weapons/items/skills/consumables/stat ups from the chest equivalents) In all, I think it’s a very interesting take on the bullet heaven genre.

I also know of 20 Minutes to Daylight that is also in the same genre, but I haven’t tried it.

Super Death has been around for a couple updates. It doesn’t appear at a specific time, it appears if you manage to kill death.

Also, there’s a new unlock that allows you to keep upgrading your weapons once they’re maxed out. I need to update my original description of “a guy plinking bats with a axes to a whirling vortex of death.” Now it’s “a guy plinking bats with a axes to a nuclear powered hypercane.”

Yeah, I had a lvl 200+ scythe with the Red Death character. Everything dies basically instantly. Not as strong as a cape + evolved rings, but that’s basically god mode.

wow the 9.0 update adds some interesting stuff …but I’m doing things that according to steam only 0.1% of the player base are accomplishing

I am glad they’re still updating it …i think they’re close to an official release …

Presumably there just hasn’t been enough time for most players to push those numbers up.

yeah bit i was one of the first for once lol

Probably also a lot of people who picked it up and played for a bit, but haven’t kept up or didn’t get hooked. At 3 dollars it’s an easy game to give a try.

I wonder if that counts people who got refunds, I’ve not done any myself so I have no clue how it treats achievements.

I came (kinda) close to finally killing Death.

But nope…I was in a good position and Death could not get to me. But then another came. And another, and another and so on. Finally one bounced past the terrain blocks and plopped on top of me and that was that.

Very frustrating.
