Vampire Survivors: Fun indie, rogue-lite game with 72,000 "Overwhelmingly Positive" reviews on Steam, costs $3

yay! other than looking for the max egg guy I don’t have anything to od

I ran through what I thought was most of the main achievements in the new dlc, and one involves a bit of a faff, and opens up a bunch more achievements. So it looks less than it really is.

I forgot how much I really liked this game.

And… That’s me done with all the unlocks from the new dlc. Took a while to find somewhere with enough caterpillars.

we sound like a bunch of max lvl WOW players after the next expansion comes out …you know the guys that only play it for a week or two going "Well that was fun I wonder when the next ones gonna be "

Oh, I did download the mobile version … any fundamental differences I should know about?

Having finished the achievements of the new dlc, I still felt the need to play, so I tried a different option of playing some of the starter characters with what I know now. I always target garlic, so I went for Poe, who has it at the start. Hyper and Hurry and the Mad Forest were just not doable. It’s weird, I can’t completely blame the character…

Despite starting with 30% luck, it seemed completely anti-luck based for weapons, so died a few times just trying to get my garlic, bibles, whips and one bird for the start. A lot of the time it just gave me consistently the same shitty things which I’d had before, and nothing of what I want. so to even survive past the first ten seconds, I blow about 9 of my 10 rerolls to get even a base weapon to give me space. The time I managed to get it going, I think I had evolved garlic AND bibles, and it got the stronger rush of monsters and the character just folded like the others ones didn’t. Evolves rarely happened. And Floor chickens were rare as hens teeth.

It’s almost as if some characters have an anti-luck, and that one is. I’m dropping the Hyper now, and seeing I can get this one through to 30 minutes just once.

Nah, that just feels like playing at half speed.

The Mad Forest with hurry and hyper is my favorite way to test a build. So far my favorite combination is union of the two birds, union of the two whips, phieraggi, water, song and whatever for the sixth weapon. Generally axe for the 360° coverage. Evolving everything only requires five passives, leaving the sixth as player’s choice. I generally like duplicator.

It takes a very long time to upgrade everything because there are nine base weapons to acquire, and you want to keep it five or under so the game doesn’t bug out and stop offering you new weapons after a union opens up a new slot. That means The first half of the game I’ve got like nothing to fight with and no defense. Typically I’ll end up with five of the six union abilities with nothing evolved until late. I can’t even start working on water, song or axe until way late.

It’s pretty fun, but not useful for achievements like killing the reaper or staying alive for 31 minutes.

I took Poe, and cruised the Inlaid Library instead, it’s soooo much easier than the Mad Forest, they give you wave on wave of relatively low might mobs in such quantity, that you get the level up fine. You get a strong wave at about 7 minutes in the Forest, and then one which killed me every single damn time about 12 minutes in.

For example, two evolved, Garlic, and Bibles, non evolved Spinach, the new Spellstrikes, burned through three revives and dead at 12 minutes, on my 15th attempt on the Mad Forest.

One shotted Inlaid Library, no revives used, got to evolve the lot of them.

What I’m currently aiming to do is get the ones which merge on evolve and leave a space. If I start with any of my base four, garlic, bible and two whips, then I’ve got space to::

  • Load up two of the three Spellstrikes.
  • When the whips merge, get the third Spellstrike, and this evolves very early, I don’t think I had to fully level them all to get the full merged spellstrike, thus freeing up two more.
  • Get the two birds, these merge to give a spot.
  • Then perhaps one of the other new ones, the new sword one probably. Or Bracelet. Whichever of these I take, I take the other from the gift box when offered later.
  • Then when I get the gift box for the evolved weapon, I choose the new arrow one.

Unstoppable killing machine at that point, I can leave it going for hours and come back.

Another thing I do is get the arcana VIII - Mad Groove which pulls in all the items around you, and then from the passive ones there, I pick up those items which aren’t free in the level, ie: spellbinder is rarely in those pulled in. Once I have six of those, I then pickup the remaining passives from those pulled in ones, and proceed. So often I have all the passive items.

oh did yall hear Vampire Survivors is going to have an animated series? and in typical VS style, it’s gonna be a goofy as-hell comedy thing from what’s being seen on Steam , here’s what it says

Plans for next patch + Vampire Survivors animated show coming!

Small patch coming in May, TV shows in the works!

Small patch coming in May

Now that the second DLC Tides of the Foscari is out (big thanks to everyone who played it and gave us feedback!), we wanted to give an update on what free patches and updates we are working on and some other news!

The first part is that we are working on a smaller patch that should launch in May (will have smaller additions and fixes, like a more detailed map for DLC stages) and we are also working on our next bigger patch, v1.5, which will be similar in size to the Bat Country update (new stage, relics etc.).
While we don’t have a firm date for this v1.5 patch yet, we are aiming for sometime this summer to give the team a bit more time after the busy DLC launch period. As always, we will try something a bit different with this patch!

Animated show coming!

The other Vampire Survivors news we wanted to share is that we are working on an animated series! If you had told me this a year ago, I wouldn’t have believed you. I still don’t believe you, but it’s actually happening.

Because we’re a small company and barely have any idea about how to make games, not to mention TV shows, we are partnering up with a company called Story Kitchen (their team includes Derek Kolstad, who is the writer/creator of John Wick, and Dmitri M. Johnson, who produced the Sonic films) to make the Vampire Survivors show.

As we all know, the most important thing in Vampire Survivors has always been the story, so we are very excited for this and we hope you are too! It’s still early days for the show, but I can already say that we will be involved so that we can ensure it doesn’t have any vampires (probably) and they will only cast the finest garlic (will work with the world’s best garlic producers).
Thanks to everyone who’s been asking for this since the Moonspell trailer: sometimes bombarding the socials with requests actually works!

As always, thanks so much for playing Vampire Survivors and sticking with us!

yeah its going to be gonzo if the description is true tho I do wonder if they know the “vampires” name is actually translated to draculas biscuit which is slang for well here it is :

Vampire Survivors has a surprise Patch 1.5 tomorrow.

Ok ive done the update and got the couch co-op but what’s the big deal about the engine change? It’s still the same Were the graphics supposed to change or anything?

The first game that I bought due to it being featured on the Switch home screen. I had wanted to play it, but I refuse to use Steam, so I had been hoping that maybe it would get to the Switch eventually, and I was right.

The game ended up being far better than I thought it would be going from just what I had seen, but I shouldn’t really have been surprised due to how good the reviews were.

Great you are enjoying it! Somehow it is a lot more fun than one might expect looking at screenshots or videos.

Not sure why you hate Steam but FYI you can get it places other than Steam (like Google Play store).

I wasn’t exactly waiting around for it to come out somewhere - it’s just that the thread title says Steam. I figured it must be good given this thread, but I didn’t seek out purchasing it until it was in the News on Switch. Most stuff I like tends to come out on the Switch eventually (if not immediately), and it gives me good flexibility of how to play it. Plus I’m a long-time Nintendo fan and would prefer they get the distributor’s cut.
