Vandals topple "Duckbill" rock

Only posters who are interested in the topic should be posting. Otherwise, you’re pretty much just being an imbecile.

Huh, I could have sworn that you were the author of post #31, hmmm, must be the other manson.

And it’s not that you don’t care, that’s fine. There are plenty of things I don’t care about, there may be things I couldn’t give a shit about that you find extremely important. It’s how much you care about everyone knowing how much you don’t care that I find pretty stupid on your part.

Also, while it has been explained repeatedly, it’s not about the rock, it’s about the people that vandalized it. If it had fallen naturally, some may have been disappointed that they wouldn’t get to see it, but no one would be upset with the natural processes that took it down. Even if it were an accident, people may thing that it would have been nice if more care was taken, and that the accident didn’t happen, but once again, no one would be all that upset.

It is the attitude that this object, that many had appreciated, and many more in the future may have appreciated, was destroyed by people who just didn’t care. They did not care how their actions would affect others. They did not care if they were removing something unique from the world. They just cared about showing off their contempt about how little they cared.

The reason you get so much flak here, is that you are showing a remarkably similar attitude. I think you have made it pretty clear that you don’t care about anything that doesn’t directly affect you, and that’s the kind of attitude that imbecilic pieces of shit like those who destroyed an interesting, unique, and natural phenomena take.

I can’t wait until those dumb fuckers are caught and fined/jailed. We’ll see who’s crying then! Just for irony they should put them in one of those old-fashioned jails where they have to smash big rocks into little rocks, Dumb-shit-assholes.

I am interested in the topic.

Yes, I meant to say “all but the first one” but figured it would slip by. I acknowledge the correction.

This seems like an awful lot of effort to prove how much you care about me not caring. Why do you care? Why are you even posting in this thread? This post right here has nothing to do with the vandalism of a rock, it has to do with MY posts. Why are you posting it in a thread about rock vandalism? Start your own thread to tell me why I should care about a rock being tipped over.

This thread is outrage about vandals tipping over a rock. If someone has an opinion about the rock, the tipping, the vandals, or the outrage, this is the appropriate thread to post in. My initial post was that in my opinion outrage over a rock is stupid. I didn’t know we weren’t allowed to post things that went against the OP in the Pit, that’s news to me.

Also, now I’m leaving work, so I have actual real life stuff to do. Please use my full username in any insults and make them witty and funny.

I’ll try not to tip over any rocks on the way home

Trying again in case you missed it, as it seems you’ve replied to absolutely everyone else.

Please help me understand your methodology here.

Lets consider, oh say, this thread. Since I’ve never done something that would cause someone to set a dog on my and have never set a dog on anyone else I don’t care much why people do or don’t attack dogs that are set on them. I therefore didn’t bother to read or post in the thread.

But I suppose I could have jumped in called everyone who expressed such an interest a moron for caring about it , when there is so much else in the world that is more important, and refused to leave until everyone in the thread agreed that the question posed by the OP was stupid and pointless (or else the OP was a psycho was was planning on setting his dog on people and wanted to know if it would be hurt.) Instead I figured that different people are interested in different things and let the thread proceed unmolested.

If only others had the intellectual capacity to do the same.

He came out in the sunlight…and turned into a rock.

eh, I’m pretty much stuck up here in front of a computer all day anyway. I am busy for quite a bit of the time, but I also have plenty of time to be bored, and I can’t really walk away, as anytime I do, the phone rings, so I read and I post when I have time and nothing more interesting to do.

I am not the one on record as not caring. I enjoy camping and doing fun outdoorsy type stuff. I often see nice places ruined by people who did not care. It does bother me when people take an attitude that a shared resource is theirs to do with as they will. I probably never would have made it out to see this rock, and I certainly never will now, but I have seen many other areas ruined.

People start fires during no-fire season, potentially starting forest fires. They cut down green trees that are holding cliffs together, enabling erosion. They take interesting rocks and fossils as souvenirs, leaving only the more boring and undifferentiated rocks for others to view. (There was a cool spot where I used to go where there was a bit of a waterfall that fell into a natural hollow that used to be filled with many different colored rocks, and now it’s just limestone rubble.) They leave used toilet paper strewn throughout their campsite.

So yeah, I take this sort of thing maybe a bit personally. If it was just this rock, and that was the only natural wonder that was ever intentionally destroyed by anyone anywhere, I’d shrug. But it is the attitude of those who think that these things are there just for them to dispose of as they will that bothers me. You display a similar attitude in your indifference. This annoys.

Go ahead and post in that thread that I’m a moron for wondering why protesters don’t fight off dogs that are attacking them. I will even acknowledge and agree with you that I’m a moron. Further, I will donate $25 to a government-recognized charity of your choice if you go into that thread and call me a moron.

Let me know when you have done it.

Fair enough, i can understand that.

True, but many other things get vandalized and nobody posts any outrage here about it. Something about crying over a rock struck a nerve I guess.

I wouldn’t do it, because it’s an assholish thing to do. I’m not sure how “Meh, just a rock” somehow translates into “You care about nothing, and are an asshole, and you are just like the vandals, and you hate kittens and puppies too!”

I’m not a big nature guy, so rocks that are still there but just not stacked anymore or whatever doesn’t really bother me. Mostly I was dismayed because rocks are what people are posting outrage about, instead of actual real issues that plague the world. Plus, I think i was a little bit drunk

In any event, except for the first post (thanks for that) the rest were just responses due to boredom and the like. Plus, you know, just rocks

Sorry, i didn’t intentionally mean to leave you out!! Lest you start crying, the repetition is basically because my opinion is what it is. The posts are mostly responses to other posters, and I’m not going to change my opinion, so a regurgitation of that opinion tailored to an appropriate response for the specific post is necessary.

You have an interesting working definition of “necessary.”

I guess, but it is a “working” definition as you so elegantly pointed out.

Besides, if you are not posting about outrage over rocks being tipped over, you shouldn’t even BE in this thread! Didn’t you know that?

A dumber version of a dumb rock

I was showing you that the standard, “Isn’t there something more important to worry about?” is unworkable as a guiding principle.

Were you? And I was showing you that it IS workable as a guiding principle. I use it everyday.

Yeah, but I was being facetious, though: I don’t actually stipulate that your definition is working.

The only reason I hadn’t is because I don’t consider giving you an excuse to make your thirty-third “necessary” post about why you think it’s foolish to be outraged over vandalism of a landmark to be a productive use of my time. I’m actually starting to regret reading this thread, a little.

Well you are still posting shit that has nothing to do with the OP. So you can take pride in that, i guess. Hope you go to bed happy.

As opposed to this?

Simply responding to morons who foolishly enter a thread without caring about the underlying topic.

I think he left me out, too.
