Mine was pretty uneventful. My doc preferred to use more anesthesia than a local, and to do it as outpatient surgery with a regular morning admittal. So, I went to the hospital around 7:00 a.m., got admitted, and then got my sack shaved by a nurse. A male nurse. A 55-year-old male nurse. Hey, hospital, take a clue: I’m terminating part of my manhood here. At least throw me a bone and send a cute 19-year-old candy striper to do the shave.
Anyhoo, after the shave they started a drip, then took me to the OR and did their thing. I was in the stirrups and awake, but they had my lower half shielded off because I had no desire to watch.
Went home after about an hour in post-op, with my wife driving since I was still a little groggy. I went promptly to sleep at home. The doc prescribed some Tylenol-4 as a painkiller. I had a couple of days of really bad, painful swelling, but that was it. I kept it iced and took the Tylenol, and after that I was fine. I cleared with a zero sperm count after one test.
I’ve searched in vain for the thread that Turbo Dog posted about his vasectomy experience, but it must have been lost in the big board crash. Foo.
Anyway, suffice it to say that his anesthetic didn’t take and he didn’t speak up because he thought the pain was normal. I winced and crossed my legs, and I don’t even have testicles.
When I had mine done, there was a Dr, a nurse, and a new nurse, first day on the job sort of thing, to observe.
So I’m layin’ there, my package out in the spot light and having a little stage fright, nurse #1, compliments me on my close shave, apparently most mendon’t do a good job in preparing the snip site. Nurses1 and 2 start some small talk, Dr asks them if theywant to know what he did this weekend, Yes Dr, please tell us.
He proceeds to tell them that he spent most of Saturday sewing up a farmer. This farmer got the front of his pants caught up in some machinery, tore the pants right off of him, along with all the skin on his package.
He then holds up the scalpel, and says “This won’t hurt a bit”.
And it didn’t, other than some tugging and the smell of something burning, it was rather uneventful procedure.
Recovery was few days with my balls in ice, and after that it’s been clear sailing.
