The idea behind carpooling is that I might be too broke to fly, and there’s no way my car would make it that far. I’m hoping that some Dopers from out this way will drive, and I can bum a ride–it’s about 12 hours by car, which is about the limit on cost-effective driving, but if I can snag a ride I’ll do it. Where in AZ are you?

I am going to check for more hotel information this weekend but would like some input from those who want to get a block of rooms together.
What is your price limitation? Most rooms are around $150 to $200 per night, but isn’t bad if you are sharing a room with 3 other people. I am going to talk to the Imperial Palace since they had a lot of success with the last Vegas Dopefest.
I think the center or southern end of the Strip would be best.
Any input?
I’d like to room with 3 others if possible, and I’d like to stay at a nice place- I can go up to $50 an evening for my part of the room!

I’m still a maybe because I haven’t talked to rjk about this yet. If we do go, we are going to have a room to ourselves.
You can usually stay at the Stratosphere for a lot less than 80 bucks a night.
It doesn’t really suck, its just in a rather bad location, at the far North end of the strip, bordering a pretty bad part of town. There are only a few major casinos within walking distance of Stratosphere.
My wife stayed there a few years ago. She said the rooms were spartan, but clean.
I will say this, room rents from Sun-Thursday tend to be less than half the weekend rates. My favorite casino is Monte Carlo, and I can usually get a room there midweek for 69 dollars or less. Weekends the rooms go for 129 dollars on up. If it’s a holiday weekend, it’s even more.
I’ve stayed at the Imperial Palace, and I honestly believe it’s one of the best deals in Vegas. Its in a great location, center strip, with several major casinos a mere 5 minute walk away. Room rates are only about 39 dollars midweek (last time I checked), and the rooms arent that bad. It’s just thats it’s not a very new casino, and it’s in need of renovation. But hell, if you don’t like the casino, you can walk across the street to Treasure Island, or go next door to the Venetian.
