I just found this site that appears to have a lot of show info. Dr. Naughty looks fun. And OMG OMG OMG, the Righteous Brothers!!!

"Wayne Newton will be appearing at the Wayne Newton Theatre in the Stardust Hotel/Casino in Las Vegas on the following dates in 2002:

Oct 12 - 17"

Dankeshane , baby, yeah!

Zette

My sig says it all!

I know there are magic fans on the board, so how about going to see Lance Burton?

I’ve seen him a couple of times in Vegas, he puts on a pretty good show!

And I’ ll be there if it kills me!

Ugly

If you not there Ugly, I’ll kill ya.

Zette - if you’re going to masturbate, do it before we sleep together, m’kay? :stuck_out_tongue:

The thought of you and Zette and sleeping together and mast… well hell, that’s enough right there to kill an old dude like me!

And I will almost certainly drive down, and have room for 1 or two passengers. Anyone need a ride from SLC to Las Vegas and back?

Ugly

Those of you who want to see some good ol’ fasioned Las Vegas cheese owe it to yourself to go see Cook E. Jarr perform. I’m not much of a fan of this type of lounge act myself, but I’ve been dragged to see him twice in the past, and the crowd (usually a pretty big crowd, too) absolutely loves him. He’s the very definition of Las Vegas cheese.

You tell him when he gets back that Pembroke is looking for him!!

I would love to do Vegas 2: Return of the Dopers.

Depends on my financial situation, but by October I’m sure I’ll have something worked out. Then it will just be a matter of arranging the time off.

Put me on the list to need a room, and probably a roommate.

Zyada, tell your brother it’s 50 dopers on one hand and him on the other. Add RJK to the Doper side and you can see which way it balances. Or you could just invite your brother.

Diane, that was a good link. I’ll check it out closer to the dates. We need more stuff like that. Especially a list of the cheap buffets. See last time we went, we just ate at the restuarants in the Imperial Palace. I had heard of the cheap buffets, but didn’t know how to find them. So if someone could identify those money savers…

The Imperial Palace was fine. Not extravagant, but then I’m not there for the decor. As long as it’s clean, I’m not too picky.

The indoor skydiving sounds fun! Definitely be considering that. Also, a magic show would be good. I’d like to know more about a Lance Burton group. The trip to Hoover Dam might be fun.

As for activities, you’re welcome to plan however you want, but consider what we did last time. Because everyone will be traveling in on their own schedule, arrivals will be staggered all day Friday. Even if most of us are in the same hotel, we need to be able to find each other. Techchick used her room as a central meeting place that day, and everyone would get ahold of her once they were settled into their own rooms. Also, if people have cell phones, those are very useful to track each other. Departures will be somewhat similar, but it’s easier to leave the group on your own schedule than to find it.

It was nice to have one larger room (the “suite” which really wasn’t one) for a central party area. We used that both nights for the main hangouts. See Techchick’s links to the pics and thread.

I, for one, have been reflecting on the last trip and what I might want to do differently. Last time it was mostly wander around and look at the casinos. I think this time I would be more interested in some shows, especially the free ones (like Treasure Island’s outdoor show). Also, I simply must do the Star Trek show. Somehow I missed it last time.

Anyway, it sounds exciting. I hope more people get off their lazy butts and actually come this time.

I’m going to wade back in this thread in a minute and find out who I have to email about room reservations (is that you, Diane?), but…

I’m going to go ahead and have that person reserve a room in my name and then get down on my knees and beg and plead for someone (preferably three someones) to say they’ll help me pay for it.

Cos this is going to work out really really well for me and I’m looking forward to it but I can’t afford the hotel on my own so I’m begging people (on my knees, remember) to consider Hotel Room Chique for their sleeping needs

Count me in as an almost completely definite.

I’m working out the details of sharing a room with chique and whomever. And I may have a tag-along. I’ll let you guys know soon.
So Diane, have we decided on a hotel yet?

Because of the price and location, it looks like the Imperial Palace will be the place to stay. I will talk to one of the reps and establish the best way to work out reservations for a block of rooms. I think I will set some sort of deadline for the “most likely will need a room” people so I can get a general idea of how many rooms we need in a the block. I’m guessing 10 maybe?

Once I get the rooms, I think we can do a first come first served thing so those who are ready to secure with a credit card can do so. There should still be a couple of rooms left for those last minute flakes  If for some chance the block of rooms get filled, there should still be enough rooms in the IP to book separately. It shouldn’t be a big deal for those who are booking on their own in the IP or somewhere else - we can just hook up somewhere.

I will have to ask my roomie Zette, but I don’t mind adding two people to our room. I also think the best way to avoid confusion and third party information screw up is if I keep an online list of people looking for a room and then leave it up to y’all to contact each other and work things out.

If you still have a hard time finding someone or feel weird asking, let me know and I will try to hook you up with someone.

BUFFETS

I’ve done a quick search for cheap buffets but haven’t found good site yet. This one has a little bit of information but I don’t see any of the off-the-strip buffets that are usually a lot cheaper. They are pretty easy to find once you are there because of the huge billboard advertisements,

Again, please let me know if I have missed anyone in the lists.

P.S. Ugly - I think I will fly down so I can spend more time in Vegas and less on the road. Let me know if you decide to fly and you can sit between me and Zette on the plane

YEA!!! Let me know who you talk to so I can talk to them about this wedding thing

Instead of posting the list again, I’ll just mention that I added Stilleto and Kore to my master list/

And Geobabe and UncleBill as maybes.

Miss C, I will get back with you the minute I get a name.

I have added Jack Batty to the list.

OK, people, look, screw the Strip. Stay downtown, play downtown. That’s where the cheap food and cheap rooms are, as well as low-minimum gambling.

Hotels to check out- The Fremont, the Horseshoe (tho I work there, and don’t know how much trouble I’d get in going to a room there on my off hours), Main Street Station, the El Cortez (don’t know about suites there, tho.) The Golden Gate, the Plaza, the Four Queens, Fitzgerald’s. All have rooms that are inexpensive, compared to anywhere on the Strip, but most likely on the small side. Oh, yeah, and the California. Maybe the Golden Nugget, but from what I’ve heard, they like to put on airs of being a Strip hotel in a downtown location, and probably a bit pricey. (Owned my MGM/Mirage, which is a company with, um, a very high opinion of itself).

Problem with that is a there isn’t a lot to do downtown for those who don’t gamble other than watch the electronic show over Freemont Street (which is cool the first time but would get boring quick). The fun non-gambling stuff is on the strip.

I have also heard (and experienced once) that the cheap rooms are a little TOO cheap, if you know what I mean. :::cough::: cockroaches :::cough:::

Geobabe and UncleBill will not sit by and be called “maybes”. We will be there, if just for spite! Indoor skydiving is a go, as is the nuptial thang.
