VEGAS FEST! Maybe?

Ok kids, here’s the deal -
I am reserving a block of rooms at the MGM Grand (it seemed like a good location, and an ok price) There will be 4 rooms available in the Grand Tower @ $170.00 for Fri Oct 11 and Sat Oct 12.
There will also be a block of 15 rooms in the Emerald Tower
@ $150.00 for the same nights.
The Imperial Palace was booked.
The MGM will be sending me a contract and as soon as I get that I will have a group code for you guys to reference if you want to reserve a room.

Did I forget anything?

Count my little white butt out for this one. :frowning:

I’m going to be working weekends through the 20th of October. But I’ll be thinking of y’all.

Count me in! I will room with anybody!

Okay, food. Here are some preliminary ideas:

Buca di Beppo: This is a chain restaurant that hasn’t gotten so big just yet (meaning the food is still good). It’s Italian-American and is served family style. Entrees cost between $15 and $20 but feed four people or so. The more people go, the more dishes we can have, and the cheaper it tends to work out. They’ll also work with us on a banquet-style meal. I need a firm number of people before I can work out the price for that, but the price if we just ordered off the menu would be about $10-$15 per person for several entrees and salad.

Any buffet: We can just pop in and they’ll be able to set up a table for us. There will be a wait, but everyone can eat as much as they want and whatever they want. Good buffets include the Carnival World Buffet at the Rio and the Feast (at all of the Station casinos, esp. Green Valley Ranch Station). Good buffets cost about $15-$18 per person.

The Great Moments room inside the Las Vegas Club would probably be able to accomodate us in a private room. This is so-called Continental cuisine, and goes for about $20 a plate. Many other gourmet rooms in town could probably do the same, and if an option of this type sounds good to people, I’ll find out more.

Benihana inside of the Hilton is also great fun. The food is good, and I think that we could get a whole teppan yaki room to ourselves. There’s sushi, sashimi, teppan, tempura, and several other things on the menu. Please note that the Star Trek Experience, which is pretty cool, resides in the Hilton.

I’m not sure how transportation is, so every place I’ve listed here is either on the Strip or within a mile. If transportation is not an object, I have several other options further from the Strip. If there’s some place that you’ve heard about or if you have a suggestion for a type of cuisine, I’ll be happy to do research. I’ve also got a few ideas on where we can do a Friday night “icebreaker”.

Please put Stiletto and me on the “looking for roomies” list!

Thanks so much!

Put me on the “maybe, probably, but not definitely” list.

Bump -

WOW! Thanks for the help and info everyone!

It’s true, the Imperial Palace crossed wires and we may or may not have 10 rooms booked. Screw 'em.

The MGM sounds like a good deal. If anyone is interested I can get information on Excaliber, NYNY, and the Tropicana which are all catty-corner to the MGM to see if I can get cheaper rates.

VEGAS ROOM INFO -

I am going to repost the info MissC obtained for the MGM. I have gathered information for the other casinos near the MGM.

MGM

I am reserving a block of rooms at the MGM Grand (it seemed like a good location, and an ok price) There will be 4 rooms available in the Grand Tower @ $170.00 for Fri Oct 11 and Sat Oct 12.
There will also be a block of 15 rooms in the Emerald Tower
@ $150.00 for the same nights.
All rooms are discounted if booked in a block of 10 or more.

TROPICANA

Block of 10 or more rooms. $135.00 per night for a double or single. Individual bookings under one account.

Deposit of $250.00 required at time of reserving the block, not individual room.
EXCALIBER

Block of 10 or more. Friday $149.00, Saturday $179.00, per double or single. No deposit but each person must book at least 30 days in advance. Individual bookings under one account.

Also, anyone interested in mediaeval show and supper - $41.95. I thought it was pretty fun.

LUXOR

Block of 10 or more. Friday $179.00, Saturday $199.00, per double or single. No deposit but each person must book at least 30 days in advance. Individual bookings under one account.

NEW YORK NEW YORK

Block of 10 or more. $159.00, per double or single. No deposit but each person must book at least 30 days in advance. Individual bookings under one account.
There are also banquet rooms available at all hotels for various costs (i.e. Excaliber has buffet in private room for approximately $25 per person, New York NY has a room for $300.00 but food and drink not included. If we spend $1,200 in food and drink, the $300.00 is waived.)

Also, a lot of restaurants offer private rooms as do some of the lounges.

Be aware that the hotel rates could change.

I’m a maybe (gotta find out when the relatives are visiting) but if I go, I’m definitely interested in the indoor skydiving. I’d also like to go see the Blue Man group.

the bonus to the MGM is that the rates are now locked in

How do we make reservations for a room in one of the blocks?

Diane can you just reserve me a room in whatever block you’re in, or do I call them and reserve something myself?

Ugly

For what it’s worth, the Westward Ho on the strip next to Circus Circus has rooms that weekend for 55 bucks. I stayed there last December and it was fine. Not the MGM by any means but for those of you really on the cheap it’s a good deal. I can’t make it this year.

http://www.westwardho.com/

I’ll repeat RJKUgly: How do we make reservations for the MGM in one of the blocks?

Is there a reservation code or something? I’d really like to take care of this now.

The MGM just sent me the contract on Thursday. I signed it and faxed it right back. They should have a code number for me by the end of this week at the latest. I will post as soon as I get it.
Then, you can call the MGM and make your room reservation.

Thanks Miss Creant and Diane for you hard work on this.

As soon as you’ve got a code number I’ll book a room.

Diane can I help by taking anything down in my car you don’t want to carry on the plane?

Ugly

oh and everyone who needs the code number to book a room, please email me

Email sent

What a sweetheart! I think I should be okay with everything packed in my suitcase but I will let you know.

I am leaning towards the New York New York so unless anyone has any strong objection, I will have them fax me the contract this week. Like the MGM, I will get a code number to make reservations under.

That is a great suggestion!

One thing that you might want to figure in is at the north end of the Strip and the majority of Dopers are staying at the southern end so transportation will have to be considered. Still, great price.
