Venture Bros. 10/08

Hmmm…

There may be more to Phantom Limb’s little wedding-crash-in-force than meets the eye. If the Sovereign is in fact in attendance, then this could be an opportunity for Phantom Limb to whack him and stage a coup for control of the Guild of Calamitous Intent. Where Bowie fits into this scenario is unknown.

(I must keep reminding myself this is a comedy show!)

“Are you quoting Jessie’s Girl?”

I think he pretty much has to be, since we didn’t see anybody there who could have fit the bill.

Dr. Killenger, perhaps?

Perhaps, but all of the scenes you mention are either take-offs on popular film/book/TV scenes, or just too over the top to be taken seriously. Phantom Limb’s hunt would have been far more chilling if the people he was killing weren’t one-note caricatures pretty much completely defined by whatever super-villain name they chose.

BTW, I love it whenever they throw out these name-only villains: You really don’t need to know much about the Zoo Creeper, Manaconda, or Sgt. Hatred to find them funny caricatures.

Don’t forget that Sgt, Hatred molested Hank and Dean, so it was funny to see the actual villain (who in addition to being a pedo is a foot fetishist).

So he’s a pedo podo?

(I don’t think “podophile” is a word, but it should be)

I agree, this season has been a lot of fun!

I tend to like any interaction with the brothers with…well…anyone. (the best being supervillains and their henchmen.)

Dean was expecially funny to me in this show though. My favorite being when he was sitting on the bed in his butterfly costume and asking in such a flirty way to see the (control room was it?). Hillarious.

I can never figure out if their trying to hint that he might be gay or if he’s just really…nerdy.

Can’t wait to see what develops!

Some of these references are so obscure that I think they are trying to be. How many people outside of pure geekdom and this messageboard really would have gotten the “Look, I’m in the Residents!” gag?

See, that’s one that I don’t get.

The Residents.

I can’t tell if the Soverign was serious when he told Phantom Limb to write about it over tear stained pages in his diary or whether he was making fun of him.

He was clearly making fun of him, but Phantom Limb, being the prince of civility and trying to maintain his demeanor, took it all in stride and pretended like it was a serious request, thereby diminishing the pleasure the Soverign might get out of making fun of him for being a whiny bitch.

Oh.

Loved the bit with Brock’s in-progress Zep tattoo.

Monarch: “Yeah, that’s cool … when I was 14!!

What makes the choice hard was the Sovereign was being so serious about it. Almost as if he himself had a tear stained journal that he was proud of. So yeah, the words he said sounded like he was teasing but the way he said it was just so serious.

But you’re probably right.

Brock: “Funny, I had you figured for a closet case.”

Monarch: “In your dreams. I’m not the rough trade in the ripped t-shirt with a naked man on my arm.”

:D:D:D

I think Jonas’ efforts are shown mainly to highlight just how pathetic Rusty is in comparison. And of course to provide plot hooks.

I’ve adopted this as my newest catch-phrase.
