Oh of course. Sorry Swiddles. I’ve heard so much about you that I know you’re lovely. And I have great taste… ask Wonko.
Swiddles, it seems that my tickets may have fallen though. I’d be thrilled to hang out and reminisce about the time when I broke your car, if you’d have me.
I’m up for a pre-Dopefest too- it would be great to see andygirl and swiddles again. Let me know if I can crash your party.

Any word yet, bourbonstew?

Andy: Heh. Remember when we got pulled over because soulsling said it was OK to make a right on red in Manhattan? Heh.
Absolutely. How about this, we can hang out at Sneakers, which is directly across main street in Winooski from the entrance to the Champlain Mill and Higher Ground, that way, I can go attempt to flirt with TicketGuy when the time comes. Plus, Sneakers has little juke boxes at every booth, and fairly good food. Parking is a bitch there, but you can always park at the Mill and cross main street. It is also next to some seedy Winooski bars, for those who want to booze it up cheaply.
Hootch Boot : So named because of the propensity of hoochie mamas that favor this boot.
Screw it. I don’t know why that link doesn’t work, but click here:

I knew that if I just waited patiently, all would be explained.
I’m actually relieved. I was picturing some sort of galoshes, appropriate to the spring rainy season in Vermont, which were loose enough to hide your hooch in, in case you were visiting a dry county.
Sneakers? In Winooski?
Swiddles, do these words sound familiar?
What next? Will you be asking andygirl to stop at Showtime so you can rent some videos?
It’s true, I haven’t been near the place since they got a bad rating. However, the word on the street is that they cleaned up their act (and the vermin in the kitchen) and that it is eat-able again. Or at least I seem to recall that rumor.
As for Winooski, it is a dive. But Higher Ground HAPPENS to be in Winooski. And you’ll recall I did call them “seedy” bars. I’m a Burlington snob. The only time I cross the river is for Olive and Bette’s and Higher Ground. And personally, I wouldn’t be caught dead in one of those bars. Give me Red Square and misguided people who think they are artists, anyday. (quote from a friend: “Jesus. Sometimes I just want to walk into Red Square and scream ‘You are not in SoHo. Red Square is NOT a territory of Mahattan. GET OVER YOURSELVES.’ Then I realise those are my friends.”)
I stand by my distaste for Showtime. Can you get the original British version of Gaslight there? Koyaanisqatsi? Would they know how to pronounce Koyaanisqatsi? I think not. I stand by my irrational loyalty to my video store.
Yow!
Could you give us non-vermont types an address for sneakers, so that we can mapquest our way over?
That is, if they let leafpeepers in the bar without an initiation ceremony.
Hell, the tourist industry is so bad this year, that leaf peepers are actually WELCOMED. We won’t even make fun of your strange habit of pronouncing your "t"s and how you think “Take Back Vermont” refers to maple products.
I have to send my iBrooke in for repairs, so I will be without steady internet access for up to a week. I’m gonna assume that I’ll meet Wonk and Andy and any others at Sneakers at 6:00 on the 28th, and if the plans change at all, someone email me, and ignore the vacation message you get back. (hopefully) I’ll check my email from the library a couple times next week. Could someone please do a “here is who we know is coming” list? It would be helpful for making reservations at Sneakers, which someone should do. (I’m good at deligating. Just not good at DOING.) And does anyone actually have Ten D tickets? I could use someone to stand with while I wait for my Flirtee to show up.
Here’s too hootch boots and the greatest band in the universe. Hold on to your asses…TENACIOUS D!!!
Sneakers is, apparently, no longer serving dinner. Nor have they been for some time. D’oh.
I thereby suggest Papa Franks. Italian, small, homey, cheap. The waitress may very well refer to you as “hon.” Address 13 W Center Street Winooski. Same bat time, different bat channel. Again, if that doesn’t jive with everyone, send me an email. Or better yet, I’ll email andygirl my cell number, and if she doesn’t mind (hah! Car-breakin’ karma!) she can be the one to call me and tell me what the finalized plans are.
And they DO serve dinner. I hope.
Hey! Papa Frank’s! I ate there the night before I ran the Vermont City Marathon! They have great pasta, and yes, the waitress (or at least the one we had) will indeed refer to you as “hon.”
(Man, I’m regretting this “unable to attend” thing even more than before.)
Swiddles-
I should have checked the thread before I checked my email. Anyway, yeah, that sounds great. I’ll see you all then.
Is anyone up for kite flying on Saturday around noon? I’ve got 2 kites, both Flexifoils, one a 6 foot, the other a 10 foot. I don’t know where we can fly, but I’m sure a local could reccomend a place. Anyone up for it?
People fly kites down on the waterfront a lot–there’s some lawn-like area, usually a breeze, and not too many power lines. Dunno how much space you need for a ten foot kite, though. Jeezum. Couldn’t that sucker yank you off the ground? (Or is this your planned means of arrival and departure?)
Kite-flying sounds like fun, though I’m not sure I’ll be able to join you. I don’t know how the homework situation is going to be yet, and I have some friends I’ve been neglecting…
Oh, yeah, the waterfront: I don’t know how well you know B-town, so: Drive all the way down Main Street towards the lake. At the very last stoplight, make a right onto Battery Street. Make a left at the next light onto College, go through the stop sign, and park in one of the parking lots. You’ll be at Waterfront Park & the boathouse–if you walk north along the boardwalk a few hundred feet you’ll come to the big lawn-like area I mentioned above.
I need 120’ downwind and to the sides, as it is a dual-line stunt kite, I’m hoping the wind comes off of the lake there, but if people are kiting regularly, I assume it is.
It hasn’t taken me for a ride yet, but I’m hoping for some good wind. I’ve gotten dragged a few times, but it’s best to get dragged on sand. (hurts less to face plant) Keep me updated on who is up for it.
Wonko,
I’m probably up for some kite-flying on Saturday… my grandparents are visiting and it’s my mom’s birthday then (yeah, living at home… grrrr). We’ve already planned to celebrate her birthday post-dopefest, but I don’t know if there will be any obligatory events for me on Saturday.
Swiddles,
I’ve got a ticket, and yeah, count me in for dinner on Friday. Oh, and I hope you won’t think me too uncultured, but forget about pronouncing Koyaanisqatsi, my question is, why would anyone actually want to rent the thing? (Well, I’ve seen it once, it was all right, but once is definitely enough)!
BTW, for Saturday night at Halvorson’s, who all’s going? I think at this point (as someone already suggested) we should compile a list of attendees. If folks want to check in or maybe e-mail me, that’d be good.
I’m going to the friday and saturday events. Put me on the list. Does anyone need anything from the NYC metro area? I’m driving up on friday.
