VM has been picked up for an additional 7 episodes, bringing the season total to 20. That’s two shy of the normal 22, but it’s better than getting cancelled at 13.
Thank goodness for the pickup, even if it’s two eps shy of a full season. I can live with that, much more so than having the show just drop off halfway through the season (if it had come to that). I applaud the network for having the sense to give the show a chance. Now if they would just throw some full-fledged support behind the thing…

So what’s the deal with the 3 arcs per season that Rob Thomas was planning for this year? The Hearst Rapist plot has taken up seven episodes so far, so my guess is that it’s going to be resolved in the next episode, or else the other arcs will need to be shorter.
Or did he just scrap the idea and decide to go with another season-long twister like usual? I can see it going either way.
The arcs were supposed to be 9-6-7 (episodes per arc). They’re midway through shooting the middle one, so now the last arc will probably be 5 episodes. At least they know ahead of time and can plan accordingly.
