I met a woman on a flight home to New york who told me she was coming from California to New York to market Vitamin Water. Having never heard of this stuff before, I thought it was some new-age yuppie thing that New Yorkers would soundly reject.
Glad I didn’t voice my opinion. Some months later I tried some and am now addicted to the stuff. It has half the calories of soda and is infinitely more refreshing. Can’t taste the vitamins - It just tastes like mildly flavored water.
None of that Gatorade electrolyte aftertaste. I can drink huge quantities of the stuff without going into a sugar coma. I especially like the peach flavor (Endurance, they call it) and the dragonfruit flavor (called Focus-C).
I met this woman last October and now this stuff is sold in every supermarket and bodega in NYC. Everyone I have given a taste to goes out and starts buying it. People who see me drinking it assume I do it for the vitamins. Coudn’t care less about that. I believe anybody who eats a decent diet is just making expensive urine when they take handfulls of vitamins every day. (Mega dose Vitamin C being the exception.)
The bottles have self-depecrating, humorous descriptions on the side to let you know that you don’t have to take it too seriously.
So, do you have this stuff in your area? Whay do you think of it?
I am not such a huge fan of plain water. I prefer something with a little bit of flavor. Soda and juice are just too damn sweet for me, never mind the calories. Gatorade has a little less sugar, but the downside is, it tastes like Gatorade.
I really like Galceau’s Fruitwater, and the Vitamin stuff is okay. It’s too expensive to drink a lot of it, though I stock up when there’s a sale.
Why is it always some kind of super-expensive woo-woo herbal-remedy designer-vitamin deal? I wish someone would just make a lightly sweetened beverage that was a cheap as soda. It can’t be that hard!
Glaceau Vitamin Water (which I was also, despite the fact that I can’t spell or type) it’s sweetened with fructose, and contains no artificial sweeteners. Vitamin Water Nutritional Information.
Yes. I like Vitamin Water. I accept that I’m paying a lot for branding, and that it’s really a less-sweet form of Kool-Aid for grownups, and that the supposed health benefits don’t really mean much.
Doesn’t matter. They’re tasty. I drink one a day at most if I stocked up at a sale. (Whole Foods last night, for example, was selling them at $.99 a bottle. Deal!)
Yeah- it’s overpriced but it’s the only drink that has a little flavor and a little sweetness. It costs about $2 for a 20 oz. bottle in most places in NYC.
Certainly better than paying through the nose for plain bottled water that many investigative journalists have revealed is mostly bottled local tap water.
I will never understand why people who live in places like NYC (which has excellent quality tap water) will spring for bottled stuff whose quality and provenance is suspect.
Anyway this Vitamin Water just hits the spot for me. I’d drink more if they lowered the price just a tad.
