just how many mysteries are they going to have this season?
ok - so V caught Logan and D&B’s mom (Charisma) fooling around, but Beaver ran right to hid dad with it - and his dad (rightfully) panicked - will the SEC bring him down?
did aaron eckles hire the former stunt man to sabotage the bus? and perhaps he felt remorse - but why was he murdered? was he planning on running to VM to tell her everything?
Who is the (I’m willing to bet fake) cop tailing Mr Mars and his paramour (wallace’s mom)? (btw - can you tell i’m lousy at remembering character names? :smack: ) is he wallace’s dad? is he the mom’s parole officer?
Very exciting episode. It did seem like there was about 8 different plot threads running through it, and that was without Weevil and barely any mention of Felix’s murder.
So, Big Dick has fled Neptune and possibly the country. I hope we see more of him, he was a fun guy. I liked how when he was presented with evidence that Kendall was cheating on him and that someone had learned of his shady real estate dealings, it was the latter that upset him. And I can’t imagine how all this will effect Dick and Beaver. Are they going to lose all that money and end up living next to Veronica? Heh. Scary thought.
I’m not sure what to make of the stunt man, Aaron Echolls revelation. There’s still so many unanswered questions there. Veronica seems to think that Aaron had the guy rig the bus to kill her? That could be, but I wouldn’t be suprised if that’s a red herring. And no clue on why he was murdered, or by whom.
I liked Veronica’s sisterly protectiveness of Wallace with regards to Jackie, though I think there might be a hint of jealousy in there too. (Not romantic jealousy, just a little over Wallace paying a lot of attention to someone else.)
And, uhh, the mystery guy following Alicia… Well, I didn’t see that coming. The thought that he’s Wallace’s dad crossed my mind as well. Wallace’s dad is supposedly dead, but they’ve already had a mystery of the week from last season where a dead dad was found to be living (Meet John Smith), so I guess they could pull that twist again. But, I dunno, the guy looked a little young to me for that. IMDB doesn’t list a birthdate for the actor, so I might be off on that.
the mystery guy looked old enough to me - if you buy that Alicia (Erica GImple) is old enough - to have fathered an 18 yr old, the guy need only be in his mid 30’s (younger in some parts of the country)
But a TVG blurb for next week or the following week mentioned something about Wallace’s father. He called Alicia by a different name - so maybe ‘Wallace’ isn’t Wallace’s real name either, and they’re both hiding from either someone who abused them or who they conned
Now I could be wrong about this next thing, I’ll have to pay attention when I watch the repeat on Sunday:
When Beaver confronted Richard, he only mentioned Kendall
R: “How did you get these?”
B: “I hired someone”
R: “A private detective”
as Beaver was deciding about labeling Veronica a professional in his mind, Richard assumed (correctly) that the PI would have turned up his shady dealings. I like the teacher who wouldn’t sell his shares because he’d just be putting someone else in the same boat (no pun intended) - that guy’s got scruples - I hope he figures prominently this season
My theory on the murdered stunt man? After Eckles found out that Veronica was still alive, he took out a hit on the guy who botched the job OR the stunt man, racked with guilt, told Eckles he was gong to spill (and possibly asked for hush money) and that’s why he was eliminated
The thing I love about this show is how they don’t drag things out forever. Veronica found out about the real estate fraud halfway through the episode, and by the end everyone knows, the SEC is storming Mr. Casablancas’ building, and he’s abandoning his children and fleeing the country. Veronica also discovers that Logan is sleeping with Kendall. Now Beaver (sorry, Cassidy) knows, everyone else is going to know, and Veronica has confronted Logan about it. Progress! Most shows would have those events unfold over anywhere from 3-10 episodes, if you’re lucky.
I think the guy who recognized Alicia is Wallace’s father. She told Wallace his father was dead, but in reality she took her son and ran when he was very young because the guy was abusive or otherwise bad in some way. If Alicia was on the run because she was a con artist or criminal, I doubt she would have started dating a very good detective/former sheriff whose daughter also is well-known for sniffing out secrets.
Poor Wallace. He’s already dating a shallow bitch who’s probably cheating on him. The same thing happened to one of my guy friends in high school. It didn’t end well.
I love how Duncan called Logan out on his ridiculous behavior. Gee Logan, did you ever stop to think that you’re not the center of the universe, and that it might put a strain on your friendship if your dad kills your girlfriend/best buddy’s sister who he was also committing statutory rape with? The issue of who’s now dating Veronica really pales in comparison to that. Logan needs about 20 years of therapy.
I think the teacher legally could have sold his stock. He did have information that the stock was bad, but his information didn’t come from inside the company. Veronica turned up information that almost any private citizen could have found with enough legwork, so it wouldn’t be considered insider trading. He just got a good tip, which he chose not to follow because he’s an unbelievably nice guy. I would’ve sold my stock in a red-hot second. Folks who buy stock know they’re gambling, or at least they should know. That’s how the stock market works.
I love how well plotted this show is, and so far, it really lloks as if this season is gonna be better than last. I like how they have multiple plot threads going on, weaving in and out of each other.
“Who killed Lilly Kane?” got a bit tedious last year and we’ve now seen that VM was about more than solving the murder of her best friend. BTW, I’m surprised Joel Silver is the producer. His feature films are seldom as subtle as this is.
Well, we see Big Dick looking at photos of Logan and Kendall. The pictures of Kendall and the assessor were in the same batch, but I don’t now if Beaver got those developed as well. We don’t specifically see them, but then the scene kinda starts mid-conversation. So maybe those photos were included as well, or else Big Dick did just assume that anyone tailing Kendall would uncover the real estate dirt as well.
I agree. That’s one thing I really liked about the first Veronica/Logan kiss last year. Rather than having them develop feelings for each other and then string it along with a “will they, won’t they” type plot, it’s like the kiss came before they were even really concious of what they felt, and then it built from there.
And they’re maintaining that fast pace this year.
Well, I agree it wouldn’t have been insider trading. But ideally everyone playing the stock market (or in this case, the real estate market) has equal access to information. While someone else could have figured out what was up, most likely the teacher would have been selling to someone who not only didn’t know about the fraud, but realistically couldn’t have known. So it’s different than someone deciding to sell because of a tip on a CNBC stock show or whatever. But yeah, I would have sold too; I’m not quite that nice.
Yeah. Though I don’t think Silver has much hand in the creative decisions for the show. He’s pretty much on the business side (with some input on casting) from what I’ve heard.
Oh, and something I saw elsewhere… In the teaser Lamb holds up an earring and asks Veronica if it’s her’s, which it isn’t. Supposedly (I haven’t personally gone back to check) it’s the same earring Weevil is wearing in “Normal is the Watchword” when V runs into him outside the convience store. And Lamb says the earring was found outside a biker bar on the Pacific Coast Highway where the stuntman had been seen before he was killed. Hmm. If true, that’s very interesting.
Interesting that Jackie didn’t introduce or explain “random dude”.
Did she not care, or did she know VM wouldn’t say anything to Wallace?
Just a nit: There are probably hundreds of Sandpiper Hotels. Just because one is a dump doesn’t mean there isn’t a nice one (unless the address is the same).
Of course bribing the assessor is kind of a clue…
Yeah, when we first see him in the premiere he seems to be angry with Woody Goodman and starts to argue with him, till Woody kinda deflects him by introducing him to the students. I definitely think there’s something up with him, which probably ties in with Woody’s possible corruption.
noticed some things in the repeat tonight
Cassidy identifies the hotel in Veronica’s first batch of pics as “one of Dad’s properties”
and when she told the teacher about she said “and there are others, I’ve checked” so I think that removes all doubt
and
12. the Jeannie-Lars-Courtney triangle
I hate Jackie. Or, I would hate Jackie, if the actress wasn’t so wretchedly awful as to make me incapable of caring about the character beyond wondering why they couldn’t have hired an actress to play her who could, you know, act.
In her first episode I felt she had some lines that she screwed up. Particulary her last line to Wallace when he was taking her to the attendence office. I absolutely couldn’t understand what she said until I read it online. But I thought she was OK this ep. Her acting didn’t stand out to me one way or the other.
Now the character… well, I don’t think we’re supposed to really like her. At least not yet.
She’s currently playing the character at two speeds: “New York attitude” and “No New York attitude.” “New York attitude” consists of semi-stereotypical “urban youth” style and “No NY attitude” is chirpy like a tiny bird. There is no nuance to her performance at all. She sucks.
Is there any significance to the line drawings that accompany the characters in the opening credits? I didn’t play really close attention to them but last night I noticed that Jackie’s was a bottle of pills. Which sort of leads me to a possible character arc for her (along with a secret hope that she’ll OD and die and we won’t have to deal with the horrible acting any more).
I think they’re supposed to be little insights into the character or things that are relevant to them, though it’s easier to make the connection for some of the drawings than others. Logan’s is notepaper pad with “Lilly” written on it, Dick’s is a surfboard, Jackie’s is lipstick and a bottle of pills, and Weevil’s is hands sticking out of a cell. With those it’s pretty easy to make a connection. OTOH, someone’s (Duncan’s?) is a security camera, and Ms. Dent’s was a license plate on the back of a car, and I’ve got no clue why those are/were especially significant to those characrers. I can’t remember offhand what Veronica’s is.
