I realize this is somewhat of a niche band… but I’ve been a fan for awhile and only recently got my hands on the latest album Futureperfect because where I live I have to special order these sorts of things.
Anyway, I’m mostly attracted to their (Ronan’s) lyrical stylings more than the instrumentals (or synthramentals in this case) but I just have to mention that I just can’t stop listening to Electronaut. This tune gets me so pumped and moving its unbelievable.
Carry on.
I’m a huge fan … actually, I added that to the “What’s in your cd player?” discussion in IMHO.
I’ve got all their stuff with the exception of “Advance and Follow”, which I’ve basically been just too lazy to pick up. I was one of those poor bastards who ordered “Futureperfect” on import when it was released in Europe only to have the place ship it so damn slow that I got it less than a week before the domestic release. What a rip!
They’re also a really good live band - I’ve seen them three times so far (all in Chicago) and I always have a blast. They should be releasing a live DVD in the coming months, so keep an eye out.
I’m listening to Elektronaut. Either Beloved or Genesis is my favorite from the current album. I haven’t decided yet.
My fiance and I are huge fans… VNV’s last show in Toronto is actually the only rock concert I’ve ever been to. I wrote about it in another thread. I like the Empires album best.
They’re great to dance to. Sometime, I’m going to do choreography to, oh, Standing, or something.
Thats funny, I saw them in Toronto as well. I love the Reverb as a venue. Great show.
Empires is my favorite as well, but I’ll listen to Praise the Fallen when I’m in a particularly bad mood. The lyrics on that album have this quiet rage and righteousness to them.
On Futureperfect my favorite song right now is Holding On, Ronan’s vocalization is terrible but he has the ability to pour so much raw emotion into his singing that it doesn’t even matter.
If you haven’t heard the vocal version of Forsaken you should pick it up, the album version is instrumental only. But it still includes the ending of that great quote:
“The only thing that burns in hell is the part of you that won’t let go of your life: your memories, your attachments. They burn them all away, but they’re not punishing you, they’re freeing your soul. If you’re frightened of dying and you’re holding on, you’ll see devils tearing your life away. If you’ve made your peace, then the devils are really angels freeing you from the earth.”
- Meister Eckhart
I as interface also own every album but Advance and Follow, which i have in mp3 form. I have yet to see them live though, almost went last year, but i had school and i didnt’ feel like making a 300 mile road trip up to chicago during the week…
I saw them at The Opera House last November. Good show. Lots of people I recognised from goth clubbing, too. The only annoying bit was the girl standing right in front of me, rolling joints for herself. I really didn’t want a second-hand high.
