Here’s the live stream on YouTube
A new one coming:
ETA: It amazes me that the prediction has been this good (seemingly). I had thought volcano eruption predictions were never very precise.
Is it just me … or is this webcam shaking around a lot ?
Also, does anyone have an idea about what those 4 square frame things are in the foreground ?
Just wind on a camera up high.
.
It’s a huge bucket list item to see/shoot a volcano. I have friends who have; their pix/video are amazing & I’m sure you’ve seen pictures online of how cool they look.
I almost bit the bullet for HI last year as expensive as it was. Sooo glad I cheapskated out because it had stopped flowing by the day I would have arrived. Why doesn’t Mother Nature publish a schedule of her disasters???
Breaking news : eruption still imminent !
More seismic activity today, webcam now showing lots of (human) activity in the area
If you look on TikTok, there’s a vulcanologist that gives daily updates on this. There’s also a resident that gives live feeds.
Niijama is erupting in Japan.
It’s a nice island. I’ve been there several times.
Breaking news : eruption now even more imminent !
And the imminence continues …
Yes ! The imminence has arrived !
The web cam coverage is cool, and yet very hot.
Have there been any reports on the status of the geothermal power plant in that area?
ETA: I tried Googling for info on that but all the stories were from November and December.
Icelandic authorities are near to finish building protective walls around the geothermal power plant in the country’s southwest to protect it from lava flows, as officials hope to protect the Svartsengi plant.
Oh, man – I just checked into the live video link, and the lava flows have started into the town; you can see what remains of a couple of houses burning as the lava eats at them.
ETA: Thanks, PastTense – I was just finishing up this post as you posted.
Here (if it will post) is a link to a Youtube closeup look at the lava eating the edge of Gridavik: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P1e_MWJ1nQc
ETA: Click back in time and you can watch the relentless advance into the town.
I was checking into flights on Icelandair for this August and there was a small banner on the website which mentioned the current volcanic eruption, with a note that it did not affect current flights.
I don’t think this is a volcanic eruption … but it’s doing a very good impression of one…
