Voting for Haley in primary {March 3, 2024, she suspended her campaign, did not endorse Trump}

In the 2024 Senate election thread, a link was posted about today’s (2/27) primary in Michigan. The story showed four regions of the state to watch tonight as primary returns come in.

So I live in that map’s “Dutch Country.” I haven’t yet cast my vote in today’s primary. Should I take a Republican ballot and vote for Haley? Or stick with my usual Dem ballot and go Biden? I know there’s an effort to send Biden a message around Gaza, but I don’t want to be a part of that. I also want to stick it to Trump whenever I can. Halp!

I think you answered your own question. Take a Republican ballot and vote for Haley. If enough democrats did that it might make a difference.

I just always feel so filthy asking for a Republican ballot. Like going into a 7/11 and asking for a Hustler with a bunch of girls scouts in line behind me.

Yes, President Haley . . . maybe.
It’s real easy to jump out of the fire and into the frying pan.

I’ve been thinking of switching to my local Republican primary and voting for Trump, only because I think Trump is the only Republican that could possibly lose to Biden in the general election.

I’m hoping she stays in the race at leadt until Super Tuesday so I can crossover my vote in Minnesota. My wife too!

This made my day!

It’s not that I want Haley to win, either the nomination or the presidency. My thought on voting for Haley is that the more votes Haley gets, the longer she might potentially be able to stay in the race, the more time Trump has to spend slagging on her, the less time he has for campaigning against Biden, the more money he has to spend in the primary, and the weaker he will be for the general.

A friend of mine voted for Trump in the primary of 2016, thinking it was a funny goof. He wasn’t laughing very long.

Cast my vote for Smokin’ Joe Biden this morning. As much as I would like to extend the electoral middle digit to DJT by voting for Haley, that ship has sailed and Biden needs a stronger showing tonight more than I need to flip off DJT. Besides, if you accept a Republican primary ballot in MI you’ll wind up on the GOP mailing list.

I don’t see how any showing for Biden in the primary will help or hurt. He’s the nominee. No one is going to remember how many people voted in February.

If he has a strong showing tonight with “Uncommitted” scoring 10% or less, then there won’t be as much doom and gloom from the talking heads about how the Gaza war is going to throw MI to DJT. If Uncommitted scores 25% or more it’s going to be spun as the death knell for Biden. The less negativity the better, IMHO.

Of course it will continue. You are talking about people who get paid to comment. They don’t get paid to say everything is great. That’s boring tv that no one watches.

Yeah of course but I’d rather the focus be on Haley’s 40% than Uncommitted’s 15%.

Well I’m speaking as someone who doesn’t vote in primaries because there has never been a meaningful one in my lifetime. Anything lower than president has been basically uncontested at the local level and our primary is too late to matter for president. I’m sick of places like New Hampshire and Iowa making decisions for me. My opinions might be shaded by that.

Having said that, this year I might show up and vote for Haley cause fuck him. I doubt she’ll still be in the race in any form by then. Our primary is June 4th. We also don’t have an open primary. You have to declare a party before primary day and if you are registered as an independent (which I actually am) you can’t vote at all.

So far haley has got 40% in a few states and it’s been painted by the media as a collapse for haley. For whatever reason the natrative the media is going with is that Biden is in crisis and Trump is dominating their respective party’s supporters. Short of Haley actually winning a state I don’t really see that changing.

I’m going to vote for Haley (in Massachusetts) bc obviously she would be a much better president than trump and also if i had to guess id still say trump would have an easier time against biden than her. No real illusions it’s going to have much of an impact if any on the narrative.

Me too, this afternoon I feel it’s imperative to support smoking Joe aka papa Joe aka Dark Brandon!

I don’t know the laws in Michigan, but in many states which party’s primary you voted in is a matter of public record. You may well end up on Republican mailing and phone lists going forward.

So garbage and missed calls? Already there.

FYI, I went with Biden. He’s my guy, for better or worse, and I don’t think one more vote for a road apple like Haley is going to do much in either the short or long term.

Plus it’s just so embarrassing to ask for a Republican ballot.
