Where’s the BOTH option?
There is none. We don’t negotiate with terrorists.
Some people actually like panffles … wafcakes … both!
I went with waffles, but.
An improperly made waffle (such as you’d find at The Waffle House, ironically) is just as soggy and floppy as a pancake, it just has tread.
My mother always opened a can of Jolly Green Giant corn niblets and dumped it into the pancake batter. Turns out, my family is the only family on the planet who makes pancakes this way.
I would take one of Mom’s corn pancakes over a Waffle House shitty waffle any day of the week, no question.
However. A good, crispy, perfectly made waffle? Mom’s corn pancakes can go suck it. Especially if sausage or bacon is involved somehow.
We called them “hotcakes” when I was a child. Of course, we also referred to horseless carriages and Victrolas.

You have to say “hotscakes,” with an elaborate Hungarian accent.
Yet another reason pancakes are better than waffles!
Where’s the BOTH option?
Seriously! I have a slightly higher preference for pancakes, but that’s probably just because we weren’t really big waffle people growing up.
Other than that, I like waffles just fine, too.
Crêpes, crespella, blintzes, blinis, Swedish pancakes, and the traditional American flapjack are all superior dishes. Waffles have their place, but to claim superiority over pancakes is just silly.
Speaking as someone that lives in Sweden, what the hell is a Swedish pancake? The ones here all seem to be the same as what we have in the UK, kind of crêpes-ish.
Plus, potato pancakes!
Maybe we need a potato pancakes vs potato waffle thread?

As a student I ate them all the time. Big plate of the things covered in ketchup.
Ketchup? What is wrong with you?

It goes perfectly with potato waffles.

Based on some dishes I have had in the States, I was under the impression that Swedes made at least a half-dozen different kinds of pancakes plus endless variations on these basic recipes.
I was served pancakes with potatoes in the batter, pancakes with pork, and pancakes seasoned with saffron - and these were just the more exotic ones.

The standard American pancake is thicker, not so easy to roll up and isn’t quite so sweet. It’s very filling.
Swedish pancakes are yummy but they have become harder to find in restaurants hereabouts as I’ve gotten older. Our once ethnically Swedish neighborhoods have become more mixed and other dishes have superseded the lovely Swedish pancake. But Ikea carries a mix for them. And lingonberry syrup.

I have honestly never seen them here.

I know what an Americsn pancake is. I am more interested in how a ‘swedish pancake’ differs from crepes, which are the basic form of pancake in half of Europe.
Personal experience only but I think swedish pancakes are thicker than crepes and a bit chewier. I prefer them. I like the Irish version of a potato pancake for the same reason.
