I had very few problems with C#3.
I agreed that Melin being ousted as a moderator was within reason, because she had ample opportunities to agree to play by the rules of being a moderator and chose not to. AND, might I add, nobody has kicked her off the board as a poster. She is still here.
But this is different.
It’s obvious that C#3 ruffled some feathers with his tactics here. I didn’t always agree with what he said, but I think he should have a right to say what is on his mind. People were free to ignore him or not.
Moderators have the power to delete or modify posts. Apparently, this wasn’t enough?
I disagree with Melin’s assertion that my strap-on post is analagous to this incident. I understand that the concern was over a link - but that is even more hypocritical, since tons of threads offer tons of links to tons of sites of many kinds.
But even if we were to assume she is right, that it’s the risque portion that caused an uproar, wouldn’t things have been a hell of a lot different if, all those years ago, Cecil got dropped from the Chicago Reader because of his calorie content of sperm column?
So a post had to be deleted twice… Really tough job there. And I firmly believe he made an honest mistake, and that it was only his reputation that preceeded him. If the same thing happened to, say, Byzantine or Polycarp, would the mods here be so quick to cancel them out?
I realize that the administrators here can run this board however they want. Free speech rights do not apply in a private domain. And being here is not a right, but a priviledge.
I just hope that the powers that be here DO realize that the spirit of this board is about opening lines of communication.
How can you eliminate ignorance if you’re so content to burn books? The first part of ignorance is “ignore,” and that is exactly what the mods are content to do - to ignore C#3’s opinions, and now prevent them from being heard by everyone.
I am not happy with this at all…
