Waking up to White Stuff in the MMP

Buy a box of bran flakes and a bag of craisins - DIY Craisin Bran!! You’re welcome!

boofae - how many pots and pans does it take to make mac-n-cheese?? Even way back when I used to make it from scratch, I’d use one pot to boil the mac, one to melt/mix the cheese stuff, and a baking pan to stick it all in the oven. What more does one need??

Once FCD realized he’d used his old phone to set up his tablet, so he had all of his contacts and apps there, the transfer back to the new phone was quick and easy. Pretty much all he’s lost are photos, and he may be able to rescue them - dunno.

I’ll be going to the boat alone today to prime the window frames. FCD will stay home and work in his shop. I’ll need to work around the guys who are literally stripping the decks off the boat. The teak sole has been sanded (poorly) so many times over the last 40 years, there’s not enough left to do a proper repair. So we’re having it all removed, then they’ll fill the screw holes and sand it all smooth. Come spring, we’ll paint the decks with non-skid. I’m pretty sure this will be the last project, apart from little things we can do ourselves. So priming today, painting tomorrow and the next day, and window frames will be done.

I got all of 4 hours of sleep last night. I was falling asleep in my recliner, so I headed back around 9, then was up till almost midnight and awake around 4. Dammit. With luck, painting today will tire me enough that I’ll sleep well tonight. We shall see.

Happy Tuesday!

If I were doing a baked version, I’d reuse the pot the macaroni was boiled in to do the cheese sauce while the macaroni was draining.

Now I just used box mixes - I make it for the grands and they just want it fast, not fancy. So one pot, one bowl.

Happy Birthday, Red!

Hereabouts, it’s 38 degrees Fargin’, and looking at cloudy-with-chance-of-rain for the rest of the day.

Yesterday, we went through the rest of the extensive paperwork for the Rock Steady Boxing program. That meant a dreary review of all of my health problems and past surgeries. That’s a process that always leaves me depressed, and it did. I’ll have to review it again when going through the Intoductory Evaluation for RSB, so I’m in cheerful (roll-eyes) anticipation of that.

Looks like the dire predictions of ice were wrong. Traffic is moving as fast as it usually does. Maybe the back streets are slick, but they already were. I was so hoping to see a ballet of spinning cars, but not to be.

I keep getting mixed messages from the wife. On the one hand she keeps saying that we need to avoid crowds because of the high risk of infection this winter. On the other hand, she’s insisting on going to a play later this week. I can’t seem to make her see the foolishness of this. And if I just drop her off, she can still bring home illness and we’re both screwed. Very frustrating.

Sounds horrible. If you’d like, I’ll trade places with you.

FCM - Insomnia sucks. You have my sympathy. Have you tried Trazadone? My doctor gave it to me for insomnia due to my MDD. It’s not a sedative, but it quiets everything down a bit, so you can get (and stay!) asleep.

52ºF this morning. Chloé and I got our full four miles in. It was warm enough that she didn’t need her reflective jacket, so she had her lighted vest, which I feel better about walking her in the dark with. I realized why my alarm didn’t go off yesterday morning - Some putz south of Nashville doesn’t understand the difference between AM and PM.

I have a Doctor appointment a little later this morning. I’m taking part in a clinical study on the efficacy of oral administration of Minoxidil on hair regrowth. I figured that they’ll give me money to take ourselves out to dinner at a nice place (look down menus, rather than look up menus), and I might get some hair back on top. It seems to be working so far.

I am experimenting with some presentation. Not much. While I’ll wear my “exercise tights” around the house and yoga pant to yoga, I have a pair of jeans that I’m going to wear to the appointment. If you look closely, you might notice they’re cut a little different than men’s jeans. It’s one of those stupid things that seems to dial down the anxiety. I swear - I’ll never understand how my brane works.

ETA: I hope you all don’t mind me talking about it so much. I’m not trying to turn this into the Maus Magill show, You all seem like a good group of people, and writing about my issues seems to help.

It’s quite fine by me~keep it up.

“You all seem like a good group of people, and writing about my issues seems to help.”

I’m thinking you’re right on both counts.

Thank you all for the kind birthday wishes!

I talked to Dad, one sister, my SIL and one niece on the phone and Sis here in town came over and grocery shopped for me. I hope that it won’t be long before I’m doing that for myself.

Now to get the breakfast dishes done.

Good morning.

It’s 41F and raining. The rain is projected to continue pretty much throughout the day, with a daytime high of 44F. So, obviously, no white stuff down here.

Red, Happy Belated Birthday. I’m glad you got your debit card issue resolved.

Today is garbage and recycling pick-up day, and the bins went down last night.

Northern Piper, I’m glad you were rescued, and it is heartening to see that people stopped to check on you.

Since I never made it to the old office during the holidays, I was thinking of going sometime this week, but I might push it to next week. I want to make sure the folks I want to see are actually there. I’ll be sure to show up with a treat, and while I’m down there, I’ll swing by my son’s place and drop off his prime rib soup base.

The pest person came and did her thing yesterday.

The Christmas decor is still up, and it’s beginning to get on my nerves a little, so it needs to come down. Somehow, it always seems like more work to take it down and put it away than to take it out and put it up.

Alrighty, time to get on with the day. My best to all of you.

This would be me too - apparently he cooked the pasta and left it to drain in a sieve over a bowl. Then he used a different sized pan to make the packet cheese sauce. Then he used another pan to make a separate roux with two different types of cheese in it. Then a mixing bowl to combine the lot, before transferring it to the dish he wanted to bake it in.

Mooooom I think he totally overdid the number of dishes, I am pretty sure I could have done it in two at the most but I neither had to cook, nor wash up afterwards so he can do as he wants!

Not at all, this is what we’re here for, and I know we are always interested in hearing about other people’s lives. Besides, supporting other mumpers is what we do best!

Does seem a bit overly complex, but if he’s washing the dishes….. (We can hope they got put away correctly)

I was loading 100 Bottom Red. A task that was more difficult than it could have been, because 1. I had a slightly later start time than the loaders 2. The other loaders were not catching their irregs, so I had to stop the belt and drag them back up. 3. The one load had a 79 box bulk stop, 70 of the boxes being 34lbs 16"x16"x36". Definitely gonna nap well this afternoon.

Nah, this is the place for it. We’d only judge you if you use [Joan Crawford]WIRE HANGERS[/Joan Crawford]

I took mine down Sunday, except for the tree that has been up since November 1st. 2002.

And a good late morning to all. My bladder gave me a wakeup call at 6:15am, but I decided to go back to bed for an hour or so…and woke up at 9:03am! So a late start to a day I had nothing on my agenda. Garbage needs to go out and some exercise accomplished, but the rest of the day will be ‘we’ll see’ territory. 57F now heading to 62F and a 1-in-3 chance for rain, which usually means I’ll get wet if I decide to go outside.

Hmmm, busy late night and morning on the ol’ MMP. Set brain to scroll mode and…

Piper, glad you made it home ok.

BooFae, San Diego is a pretty nice place, but I understand your feelings, and I suspect the tourist market this summer will be way down for foreign visitors. Good luck with your travels tomorrow. As for Mac-n-Cheese, no pans get dirty from my frozen Stouffer’s dinner…

swampy, if you haven’t mad the call yet, do that now! Had a Cologuard test in 2025 but next time I’m due (about 75) I plan to ask the doc to order up a full colonoscopy, since my prior one was when I was 55. And BLT’s sound good, may have to consider them this evening…

Sensei, you wrote;

After reading your descriptions, I think I could take quite a few of those days…

FCM, I really hope you can get out on the water a lot this spring and summer, you two have invested so much time and money in that boat you should get some pleasure out of it.

Knots, just look ahead to the workouts and the improvements.

Cookie, are masks available for the play? Guess she figures culture is worth a threat of a cold.

Maus, happy Doctoring and good luck with the hair regeneration and dinner. And write what you need too; we’re a pretty understanding bunch here.

doggio, hope the drivers are in as good a physical shape as you are, that’s a lot of lifting and hauling.

And made it to the end (for now), so need to get the trash outside and the ice cube trays inside so take care and I’ll catch up later.

You are one of us, and we are here for you :people_hugging:

A cold is not the worry. MN is in the red zone for flu, covid and whatever that crud is that is causing ERs to be overwhelmed on a daily basis. I have a great-grandson who was admitted to the hospital because he couldn’t breathe. Most everyone in my family has been ill. Our ER nurse niece says that there are not enough rooms or beds to hold the flood of sick people. Yes, an N95 mask, if we had any, would help prevent infection, but the standard mask is nearly useless as it only protects others from you, not you from them.

Glad you got rescued northern piper. Did you apply puppies when you arrived home?

A brief break in the the eve cleaning. Started with breakies out, then started the bedroom cleansing. The sheets and comforters are sloshing in the laundry room. Lager is on my lap. I’ll get back to cleaning when he gets up. Listening to cabin pressure while cleaning.

Happy birthday, red!

Well, the white stuff turned all soggy and vanished, and lots of wet started falling out the sky instead. It may freeze overnight and turn it into an ice rink, we shall see… I have to say, moving to Scotland I was expecting a higher standard of snow than I’ve had. OK, they have it up in the highlands, but there’s barely been any here the last few years, it’s been deeper in the middle of England.

No updates from the data eejits at irk, but I now have all the data, so I’m not concerned it will be wiped accidentally while they’re dithering over the bill.

Happy birthday Red!

Back from the Doctor. I saw the photos from September and today. There is definitely more up there. They’ve gotten rid of the placebo tablets. Time to find out whether I’ve been taking one or two doses a day.

My upstairs neighbors do and I’ve seen houses and churches marked as well.

My boss brought in 3 Kings bread, and I got the crown. Doesn’t quite compensate for the 15 cm (6”) snow from Saturday, the -12°C (10.5°F) and the continuing saga of the weak heat pump. Thought it was fixed yesterday, but it made an incredible racket, so not all is well.

{{{Maus}}} Talk (write) away.

Happy belated birthday, red. Glad you’re home for your birthday.

On the good news front, my mom got a new knee, and that went well.

And I think I might make mac and cheese this weekend. Supposed to warm up and rain.

Need to write some cards tonight and get them in the post tomorrow. Seems that the mail from PNW is taking longer than the mail from PA. No idea.

Happy Birthday, Red!

It’s kitty day! (In theory, meaning nobody has called from the shelter to say, “Uhhh, don’t come in quite yet.”)

[Possibly] Shizo* was to have been spayed yesterday, so we’ll see how alert and able to hold her own she is. Topaz was already spayed. We have our biiiig bathroom set up with food, water, two litter boxes and the Litter Genie, area rugs, several scratchers, three beds/hidey-holes, a heater, a comfy chair, and fleece lap quilts–yes, it’s a big en suite. If they’re genial with each other and prove they understand where to pee, we’ll let them into our bedroom later today. It has a new cat tree and we’ve set up steps to get onto the bed, which has the not-best fleece blanket on it. There are commercial (sisal mice, crinkle balls) and homemade (toilet paper tubes, milk carton pull rings) toys, but we’ll start without them so the kitties can figure out where the hell they are and how many cats are in the area.

Have I mentioned the big fleecy pad that’s in front of the gas fireplace downstairs? :black_cat: :heart_suit: :cat:

*(formerly [possibly] Shiraz, but Shiraz and [possibly] Topaz are too hard to say together because of the different syllabic stress and the shared -az suffix)
