You can do almost anything except (1) click on a door or portal and have it do anything and (2) actually beat anything up.
You can fly, which is nice if all you want to do is explore. Use /fly or press 1.
You can go to any known map. At all. Every city, trial zone, and mission. You need a complex list of map names.
You can execute any emote, including many not formerly available to player. Again, long list of internal names needed.
You can spawn and mess with almost any NPC form. (Name list, again.)
Here are the key resources:
City of Heroes codex (long list of map names, links to other things)
Titan Icon instructions
More Icon instructions
You will basically need the codex open in a browser window to play around, as the map links etc. need to be cut and pasted. It’s not really the game… but it’s really all the old familiar places, and a few of the faces.
Fuck NCsoft, by the way.
Thanks for the links. Guess I could have just scrolled down the same page I downloaded the thing from :smack:
This bit here really makes me wish I’d downloaded the i24 beta:
I can remember griping on the CoH forums that there was no way to take a full-screen screenshot of my characters where their head was at the top of the screen and their feet at the bottom, because the character’s head is always centered on the screen, leaving the character as a small figure in the context of the overall shot. You could zoom in and get an upper-body+head shot, but you couldn’t get a full-body, full-screen-size shot. (This wasn’t a CoH-specific gripe - it’s the same with every other MMO I’ve looked at.) I remember specifically suggesting implementing some kind of “screenshot mode” where you could … detach the camera and move it independently of your character. I wonder if this was an actual feature of the original i24, or if the Icon developers simply could only make it work with that version.
I’m glad to hear there will be a Mac version, except I’m pretty sure my current Mac won’t be able to handle it - I’m already having trouble with the graphical demands of WoW’s current expansion. I do hope, though, that the Mac version will be native, not the Windows client inside an emulation wrapper like CoH (and now Guild Wars 2) used. Though it might not matter; I’m hoping to have myself an actual “gaming PC” before too much longer, though my finances don’t currently allow it. While I’m a Mac fanatic, I’m growing tired of Apple’s neglect of the gaming community.
Somewhere in those first couple of posts I think there is a link to a torrent of the i24 client. You can download it and unzip it to a different folder of your HD, then put icon into that folder also. I did it and now have 4 Icon shortcuts on my desktop, 2 for each client.
Might be of interest.
I was just watching my recording of the Avengers and realized I really wanted to play some City.
I’m hoping that the Phoenix project will be as good as the intentions.
In two days, you may want to check out the kickstarter, then. That’s where the new video’s going to be.
Every time this thread gets bumped my heart rate goes up and I allow myself to think, “Maybe…”
Goddammit.
Seems to have been delayed slightly.
Not only overdue, but coinciding with the start of a slack week for me.
Here’s hopin’.
Kickstarter made them do a playable demo of what they have, which was not on their list of stuff to do until much farther down the list, after they got the software the Kickstarter is supposed to help purchase. So it has taken them quite a while to get that done and submitted back to Kickstarter.
Looking forward to this.
I just realized I never did explore Terra Volta, I always just breezed to the reactor.
This makes me sad for some reason…
You could explore it now using Icon. No mobs or fighting, but the stuff is still there.
Wednesday, 12:01 AM.
Zombie Man’s working on the project, you know that? Running the forums.
I had nothing better to do tonight, so I found myself watching the 2012 movie “Dredd”, the second attempt at at Judge Dredd movie.
And holy crap, whoever was in charge of visuals in this movie must have been a COH player. Seriously, this movie was set in Skyway City, and the indoors set dressing was pure COH instanced missions.
I also spent the whole movie thinking, "Is the villain Lena Headley? Because my first exposure to that actress was as the mom in the Sara Wossname Chronicles on TV (the Terminator show), and then as Cersei Lannister in Game of Thrones. My, that actress can surprise me every time with her makeup effects so that I’m never sure if it’s her, but her facial expressions and bodily moves can’t fool me. (Seriously, I’m good at picking up body language. There was, a couple years ago, a new female employee at my last job, and after watching her for a while, I had to ask her if she was the sister of another female coworker. And she was the sister. But they didn’t look anything alike. What clued me in was that they moved alike. I was watching this younger sister from behind, when I realized, “She “looks” just like [older sister]!”
I soloed 90% of the time so there are some zones I don’t think I ever visited (at least Hero side). The ones that were only used for Task Forces and Trials. Maybe once or twice. If at all.
I soloed 90% of the time, too, but I managed to explore every zone I could enter. I am finding Icon more useful to look at the zones I never got to - the Hive, the Reactor, Grandville, some of the far-flung other-worlds zones.
I still consider my supreme feat running a Level 1 alt with zero points to Portal Square. ![]()
