(WARNING: GROSS)To the subhumans who think it's fun to torture animals...

… I have some things I would like to tell you. In our local news I have recently seen some examples of your conduct and I would like to list them here and comment on them.

  1. Some “person” (I hesitate to use that word) tied a 6-month-old Australian shepherd’s legs and mouth with duct tape and put it into a sports bag, which was subsequently thrown into a trash can in Duesseldorf (Germany)… the dog died a slow and painful death. A picture of the dog can be seen here, on the site of the local animal shelter. Sensitive viewers should probably not look at it.

Listen, you rotted slime of inbred snails: if the puppy dog you bought for Xmas surprisingly takes up more than 5 minutes of your time and actually demands some attention, dedication and effort, and you decide you cannot put up with this: take it to the fucking animal shelter and make up a story about your sudden dog-hair allergy, for fuck’s sake! And if you are too lazy or too much of a coward to look somebody in the eye while you are abandoning the pet that you shouldn’t have had in the first place, at least tie it to the shelter’s gate at night and leave some water, so that somebody can find the dog in the morning. And if you can’t be bothered with that either and decide that this animal MUST DIE because it crapped on your carpet, please kill it quickly and DON’T MAKE IT DIE LIKE THIS!!!

  1. Malta - a beautiful island in the Mediterranean, features an interesting national sports: torturing of stray cats. A couple of weeks ago a program on our local TV station showed a cat that had been fed some fish INCLUDING A FISHING HOOK on purpose. The “person” watched, while the poor animal tore half of its face off trying to get rid of the hook. Apparently shooting at strays, setting them on fire, cutting their noses off and throwing them off roofs is a favourite pasttime of some, while the Maltese government laughs at the attempts of animal rights activists who try to control the cat population by neutering. Here are some pictures for those who don’t believe me, but they are really really not nice to look at: {Link removed. Lynn}

May everything you do to these animals come back to you tenfold.

  1. Some “persons” broke into an animal shelter in Spain. A dozen or so dogs were taken, tied up to a tree in front of the shelter and their front legs sawn off.

May all your limbs drop off, one by one, painfully. over the course of 5 years.

And while I’m at it… to those Spanish macho guys who use Podenco hunting dogs to hunt rabbits. It may come as a surprise to you, but keeping the dogs hungry and on a short chain at all times does NOT make them better hunters, it only makes them starve and lose muscle tone. Also, when a dog has stopped being useful (at the ripe old age of 4 or 5, because you constantly underfed it), please at least have the decency to shoot it, instead of abandoning it in some forest or hanging it from a tree.

I do not know by what name to call you people. Any animal name I use to insult you insults the animal more. Hell, even my asshole would be offended if I called you by its name. Pond scum would probably rise up and hunt me down if I used its name to insult you.

You stupid, callous, torturing and murdering bastards… please die and remove yourselves from the gene pool.

Thank you.

I don’t know if it’s just late, but that just can’t enter into my head. I mean, I know what the phrase “their front legs sawn off” means, but to see it used, at all is just so foreign. If I were a computer, I would be saying “Does not compute”. It sounds like the setup for a joke that a villainous thug would tell in a movie like Snatch… it just doesn’t sound real.

Some people randomly just broke into an animal shelter - for kicks - stole a dozen or so dogs out of it - for kicks - tied all these dogs to a tree - for kicks - and then… for some reason probably not even known the them… took out a saw and forcibly removed the front legs of these animals? FOR KICKS?!?

Heaven help the universe if humans ever develop intergalactic space travel.

I removed the second link because it made me Very Ill to look at it.:frowning:

I’m not real happy about the first link, either.

I also edited the thread title.

For the Straight Dope

Lynn: sorry about the link, I hesitated to put it in, but it is on a site of a German animal rights group (not on rotten.com or similar) that does work in Malta. I apologize.

By the way, many of the animals on that page survived their ordeal and were saved by this group and are now well again (as well as a cat can be with 3 legs or no nose) and have found homes in Germany. So did the cat whose story I have described (the one with the fishing hook). For some reason it had not lost its trust in humans and was still a well-behaved and loving pet.

I believe that you weren’t trying to cause disruption for disruption’s sake, but I know that a LOT of people would be extremely upset at the sight of the second link. I’ve been through this before with animal related topics. I accept your apology.

I’m glad that some of the animals have found homes. Sometimes people disgust me.

I agree that the second link was pretty extreme (hey, at this late hour, I’m probably the only other person on the Board that caught it, Lynn). Luckily, I’ve got a strong stomach.

::: hugging my aussie puppy tighter :::

How could anyone do shit like this… :frowning:

Out of the gene pool, out out out!

Sometimes, I wish birthcontrol was retroactive.

Elly

When I was in college I used to occasionally find stray cats around the dorm with no or extremely short whiskers. I finally realized that someone had been burning them off, and I couldn’t understand how anyone could do such a thing. Had I ever caught anyone doing it, I don’t know what I would have done.

But what the OP describes…

It almost makes me wish I believed in Hell, just so I could be assured that anyone who does this sort of thing would spend eternity there.

And I’d be willing to send them there.

Slowly.

When I’m dictator, there will be a bounty on those…those…things. It is utterly incomprehensible how anyone could do such things knowingly. What I want to know is, what can we do to stop it? Any ideas?

How can anyone be that cruel…?

The only idea I can think of to stop this is to lock them in a deep, dark, stanky cell for the rest of their lives with no company but Bubba.

I dunno…something that screams a fate worse than death…

God, I don’t even toy with the INSECTS that invade my domain. One quick shot to the exoskeleton and that’s it. How completely gross and disgusting.

(goes and finds Zazou and gives him a hug)

This story wrecked me.

Man, I knew I shouldn’t have opened this link.

I need to go home and spend some quality time with Bart and Benny.

Now I need to go home and hug my cats.

First the story about the scum-sucking subhuman who tortured cats alive and called it “art” (that one showed up on FARK last weekend and I wish I hadn’t read the article) and now this.

Thanks to Lynn Bodoni for removing the second link. I probably would have looked at it, and it would have messed me up even worse than the posting.

<sigh> I’m generally a pretty mellow person. I could do serious bodily harm to these idiots without a moment’s regret.

I don’t want to know what is in either of the links. All I can say is I am sickened by the inhumanity, and I feel that even subhumans would be insulted by your thread title.

I hate animal cruelty on every level and that shit is fucking unreal. I cannot imagine that happening to cats or dogs or any other animal, and I hope the sick fucks (apologies to all others to whom I have ever referred to as sick fucks) who have done this pay dearly. I honestly am having trouble keeping myself from crying. Any form of torture I can think of is too good for the “things” that would do this.

I’ve got to go make sure my cat is ok now.

We live in cultures where this type of thing is unacceptable and against the law which says much about our culture. The fact that some people are sick is sad but we also have murderers, child molesters etc. Not much we can do except try to prevent it and punish it.

But there are cultures where the idea than animal cruelty is wrong is non existant. Most Asian cultures have absolutely no notion that animal cruelty is wrong in any way. If you go to China like I do, you will see a lot of animal cruelty as I have seen. I am not going to describe things because I do not want to make people sick or hate those cultures which just need to be enlightened about this issue. Personally I support www.animalsasia.org and I am sure there are plenty of other groups you can support.

Animals don’t have their own advocates. For the animals that live with us, we have to be their advocates. Other than the ones that go ferral, they depend on humans. Do them a favor and speak for them. When you see something wrong going on, say something about it and raise people’s awareness. If those of us who know the difference between right and wrong can convince society that we are watching, and if more people knew the shit humans do to animals, THOSE UGLY (I’m at a loss for a noun as well) WILL BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE! That doesn’t just mean the spawn of some humans’ sinister streak, it includes animal testing, pet shops who buy more dogs than they can sell, zoos and aquariums with shitty facilities…

People who live with animals and think of them as furniture, take your dog for a walk! Let your iguana out of the tank! Ride your horse! or give them to someone who will!

I need to get some air. I didn’t look at the remaining link, but I still feel ill.

I was feeling especially friendly like hugging my dog (he looks like that poor dog from the first link).

So I picked him up and he peed all over me. I think he’s still ticked off that I desexed him.

Thanks for all those positive replies… I apologize again for the links, but sometimes you just have to see these things, otherwise you won’t believe what people in the so-called “civilized Western world” are capable of. Thank you for listening to my rant - I get so frustrated at times because whatever small things I can do, it’s never enough.

What can we do to prevent things like these? Well, first of all we can walk around with our eyes open and make sure we do what we can to help any animal victim. Examples: seeing a wounded cat/dog in the street, seeing/hearing a neighbour mistreat their pet, etc. If we want to, we can also get a pet from an animal shelter (instead of buying it from a breeder). We can also give financial aid to or do volunteer work for the groups that try to help these animals. Problems abound especially in southern and eastern Europe, where the mild weather favours uncontrolled breeding of stray cats and dogs and the governments have no money to have the animals neutered (or even put them down, if necessary - but quickly and as painless as possible).

A cow-orker of mine took a dog from the Spanish island of Lanzarote, where hunters routinely abandon their “older” dogs somewhere or hang them from trees to die. She also does some volunteer work for an animal rights group on the island of Tenerife (collect blankets/towels, food and money etc.). Through her I have come into contact with the people that work for animals in Spain and gotten to know what they go through. Not only are they laughed at by the locals, who ridicule them for working so much for what they regard as “things”, they also get no help whatsoever from the local governments. I really can’t understand this. In Malta the government does not allow foreign vets to practice in the country, when they want to come there in their own spare time to neuter the stray cats for free so the cat population can be controlled. I assume they prohibit this because they want to force the animal rights groups to use local vets and pay them - but none of the groups has enough money for that.

Your descriptions were horrifying enough. I’m afraid that I’d get nightmares if I looked at the link. I told my sister about the dogs having their legs sawed off, and she begged me to not tell her any more. I’m thankful that she didn’t have to read about any of this; I can still barely stomach thinking about this. Now I’m frightened for the safety of our cats.
