Was Jennifer Lawrence's "dress malfunction" on purpose?

So I guess at the SAG awards Jennifer Lawrence’s dress kind of fell, a little, as she went up to accept the award.

Ya think that was on purpose? I ask because:

  1. It was kind of a weird was for a dress to fall apart, wasn’t it? And she was kind of fiddling around with it BEFORE it came apart.
  2. It came apart just enough to be endearingly clumsy, without actually humilating her, and
  3. As much as I like her and think she’s a great actress, her “I Am A Slobby, Gross Troll, Just An Ordinary Person” schtick is poured on a little thick. I understand why, for PR reasons, a stunningly pretty 22-year-old 2-time Oscar nominee with a porn star body who pals around with a second-generation celebrity would want to play the modest card, but it’s sort of becoming a character in itself.

So that’s my conspiracy theory of the day; her wardrobe malfunction was on purpose. Part of her “I’m just a clumsy, ordinary schmuck” act.

I’m bored today.

I think it’s time to retire the phrase “wardrobe malfunction” and all variations thereof.

Anyone who even much notices a nip slip or panty flash really needs to get a life.

So here I am watching the superbowl with friends and family and Janet flops out a titty on purpose means we need to get a life? Did I get transported to Bizarro world?

Her dress didn’t rip or break, that’s how it was made. She just had it hiked up so you couldn’t see the mesh- that is, until she got up on the stage. She probably stepped on it or something, showing the mesh.

As this article explains:

Diane Sawyer’s news broadcast a few nights after the ceremony included the response from the designer going on record to state that no malfunction occurred; his dress was designed to do this.

I remember this because this was especially ridiculous even for Diane Sawyer, who never met a trivial fluff piece she didn’t like. Thanks for letting us know nothing happened, Diane, I can sleep soundly once again.

She could just mention that she got her start on ‘The Bill Engvall Show’.
