Was Spock sexy? Data? Odo?

So I’ve been a Star Trek fan for, oh, must be nigh on three hunnert eleventy-nine years now, including that stint I spent in the Phantom Zone. During that time, I’ve noticed that, despite not exactly being a pretty boy, Mr. Spock attracted the attention of a few fair damsels in his fictional universe, as did Leonard Nimoy in our presumably real world. Data on TNG didn’t do quite as well on account of genuinely having no libido, but there were at least two fair damsels in his world who expressed a clear desire to change his oil for him (and no, I am not counting that drunken trollop Tasha Yar, whom I mention only so I have an excuse to post this pic); and Odo on Deep Space 9 also mysteriously attracted the romantic longings of at least three different organic hotties and one claymation thing.

Always seemed odd to me. So I will ask the Dopes’ straight ladies, gay men, and gender-flexible persons: Were any of these three chracters truly attractive?

Note that I am talking about the characters, not the actor. Those are not identical. Oh, and I did not forget *Voyager’s * HoloDoc or Enterprise’s Phlox. I ignored them in contempt

Poll in a moment.

Yes. No. No.

Crap, I screwed up the poll and didin’t iclude the multiple choice option. I blame Trump.

I can picture why Nimoy-Spock would seem sexy (and Quinto-Spock), but Data was practicality a character written for children and Odo was too overwrought.

But remember that Odo can imitate anyone. Or anything.

You’re welcome.

Spock, yes.
Data, sort of yes, he had to grow on you. But once you found out he was fully functional well, that helped.
Odo … sorry, no.

Gee, I married a blindingly intelligent man who sometimes regarded me and my emotional nature as being an alien from another planet…Oh yeah, to me, Spock was hot at all ages.

Data was loveable, but in a brotherly way. Odo wasn’t appealing to me at all.

Suddenly the Beach Boy’s “good vibrations” song seems appropriate.

But he kind of sucks at it.

Yes, Spock is hot. Brainy is sexy after all.

Brent Spiner is a handsome enough man. Data was not sexy though.

No, no, and no.

It was really Data who inspired the thread. I saw the end of a third-season episode of TNG on the weekend in which this guest star got all hot & bothered over him after, like, 2 days acquaintance, and I thought two things:

  1. Spock would have fucked this chick at least once by now. Kirk, at least twice. Riker, three times, but after the final go-throw she’d have realized what a creep he was and stabbed in the the ear.
  2. You have TONS of options, honey, pick somebody who actually has a desire to use his dick. I mean, I understand becoming extremely attached to Data, in a fraternal or sororal way, after enough time. Pulaski did. Hell, in the Mark Twain two-parter, I totally bought that the entire senior staff was all emotional over the prospect Data dying, and when he asks why they were all butt-heart, I always want to answer, “Because other than Picard you’re the only genuine hero in the group; the rest of us are just feckless chumps, though Bev Crusher is gorgeous and Troi has very nice clavicles. Anyway, you’re the best of us and you’re not supposed to die, Athena damn it!”

Wait, what was I talking about?

Right, the Eileen Seeley character. I can buy that that a drug-addled Tasha Yar, having her inhibitionbs freed, might suddenly realize that her buddy Data, totally trustworthy and gentle, was a good choice to get her freak on with. But not a sober hottie.

In other matters, I know women who have a crush on Spock, but I never thought it was simply his brains. Spock is … dangerous. He only looks calm. There’s lava in that volcano.

ETA: Oh,and regarding Odo, the Dey Young character in “Investigations” seemed pretty happy with his lovemaking. So did Kira. And Dey Young had great wheels.

Ok, don’t talk to me about Crusher, I hate her so much, with, like the fire of a thousand suns. Sanctimonious twat. Grr…
deep breath

What I was thinking, is it might be interesting and/or fun to have sex with Data once. I mean, never gets tired, right? And since he really doesn’t have any use for his dick, he’d use it the way you wanted - not too much and not too little.

But no, sexy he is not. I like at least some emotion in my partners.

Don’t know who or what Odo is so had to google. Hells no. Ditto Data. I can understand an attraction for the Spock character ; people are attracted to the exotic and mysterious. I could never find him physically attractive, partly because my nickname in grade school was Spock on account of my Spocklike eyebrows:( Mr. Nimoy, the man was handsomeish and Zachary Quinto is a yummy morsel.

Odo could imitate any inorganic thing. But he could not imitate other beings. The Founders changed his DNA when they sent him out into the galaxy as an immature lump of whatever.

He got chipped in the movies.

  1. It is my understanding that Leonard Nimoy got mad fan mail from the ladies during the show’s run as well as some infamous fan fiction and at least one seriously infamous piece of fan art. I must therefore assume that he was hot as far as SOME people were concerned.

  2. I never heard about Data getting a lot of moist fan mail, despite the fact that he was the first character to get laid on the show. On the other hand, the film “Trekkies” profiles a young lady who had a seriously stalkerish thing for actor Brent Spiner.

  3. If Odo was a sex icon, I never heard about it. However, I have seen a fair amount of seriously insane artwork featuring Ariel the Mermaid and the chef voiced by Odo’s actor in “The Little Mermaid.”

Some people are just nuts.

I’m not answering for myself because I don’t swing that way (aliens and robots) but my girlfriend in high school thought Spock was hot, when TOS was still on, and just after that another woman of my acquaintance force me to drive past Nimoy’s father’s barber shop to leave a note. Since I’m pretty sure she didn’t think his father was hot that’s vote number 2.
I’ve never seen any passion around the other two, though I have seen René Auberjonois on Broadway and he was good - but didn’t exactly make my wife have palpitations.

I’m pretty sure that isn’t right. At the beginning of the series, he isn’t very good at imitating specific humanoids. But his normal form is an imitation of the Bajoran scientist that found him, and he does several animals over the course of the series. I think he turned himself into a rat in the pilot.

I imagine the fact that he sleeps in a bucket would be kind of a turn-off for a lot of people though.

He’s fully functional, and anatomically correct

Multiple choice would have been good.

Yes on Spock. As you noted, smart, calm and a seething cauldron underneath. Who wouldn’t want to be the one who lit that fire… rowr

Data always had that childlike air - ick.

Odo, yeah, no.
