Here’s a good source when you want to know if there’s been an earthquake. Not surprisingly it’s named http://earthquake.usgs.gov/
There was a 6.9 quake near Papua New Guinea today (Oct. 31).
There was a 5.1 near Anza, and some smaller ones in LA (3.7 in Compton) on Sunday.
Southern California’s own version is the not as obviously named : http://pasadena.wr.usgs.gov/
Northern California got the easy name http://quake.usgs.gov (The 5.1 one you’re talking about was big enough to be a headline on this page).
And the Northern California Earthquake Data Center at Berkeley ( website: http://quake.geo.berkeley.edu/ ) is collecting data on quake experiences, but that’s for Northern California.
I just checked, and they have a link to the Southern California center – website is http://www.scecdc.scec.org/ . If it’s like the Berkeley one, you can leave a response on what you felt, when you felt it, where you were and what it felt like so they can develop a better feel for fitting rating systems to experiences.
