Does anybody else get a feeling that much of the Academy voting is more reflexive than reflective? That many of the dear old biddies are just checking a well-received movie, going down the line, check-check-check, and no need to don the bifocals?
When that capstone to celluloid bloat, LOTR:TROTK gets the nod for Best Editing (O.K., this one was a while back) of all things, there is no real peer review in place. Unless the Academy approves of Everlasting Gobstopper endings, that is.
Awwright, Sofia C.! I’m so happy for her! This makes this the real “year of the woman” – more so than any actress’ triumph. She has bounced back from an almost unprecedented public pile-on of insults and humiliation for Godfather III (in which she wasn’t as bad as everyone was saying), and back from apparently suffering more personal humiliations dealt her by her hubby.
Last year, it was Nicole Kidman shrugging off The Chipmunk. Now, it’s Sofia standing proud (and Spike can stuff it).
Did Sofia snub Scarlett again? I mean, at the Golden Globes, didn’t people make a big deal that Sofia didn’t thank Scarlett? I didn’t hear her thank her this time anyway. I don’t know about the do’s and dont’s of acceptance speeches, so I don’t know if she was even supposed to thank her or not, I was jus wondering.
I haven’t noticed the hand holding, but each time I’ve seen Elijah he’s sitting with the three other actors that played hobbits. Is he nominated in anything? It’s always fun to hear that fake British accent he managed to pick up. (Probably from the same place Madonna found hers.)
Does someone want to fill me in on how bad Letterman was when he hosted? I know he will make a joke about it on his show tomorrow. He couldn’t have been that bad. Does Vilanch always write the jokes?
:smack: Oh, crap. I misheard, and thought Sofia had won for Direction – which would’ve been a historic first. Oh well. Writing is really almost as great, but you know how much respect writers get in Hollywood…
