WCW/ECW v. WWF Invasion (spoiler)

Ok, so this thread will prolly be for me and hardygrrl, but did anyone catch this tonight? Amazing, absolutly amazing. Every match was charged, and cranked up.

I do have to disagree with the Hardcore match though. Jeff Hardy is a much better Hardcore wrestler than Rob Van Sant. I thought that was a crock. I wanted to see Edge and Christian give RVS a big ole conchairto.

And Stone Cold? Come on. Why the hell would he defect to WCW? I think he did it to piss off Vince. I dunno.

Any other thoughts in the wrestling mode? Anyone else a fan?

[sub]Rocky! Rocky! Rocky! Rocky![/sub]

I had to leave after the bra and panties match, (<Homer> Mmmm…bra and panties match…</Homer>) but I like what I saw. Um, well, you know what I mean.

And I know that hardygrrl is going to whip my ass for this (not that this is a bad thing, mind you), but I think RVD deserved to win the hardcore match. Other than Goldberg - made out to be the strongest mofo in pro wresting - RVD is quite possibly one of my favorite wrestlers to watch and the Van Terminator (or whatever) is one of the coolest finishers I’ve seen in a long time. It’s a close fight between him, the Hardys and Kurt Angle (now that’s technical wrestling), but still…

But to get back to the match, I think he had Hardy outclassed. I mean Jeff is one hell of a high flyer, but he doesn’t have the sheer mass necessary to be the hardcore champion, imho. (We all know, of course, that if he were still wrestling, that Mick Foley would be HC champion until the end of time…)

And, wtf, Stone Cold defected? Interesting…

Oh, and as much as I have the Azn Pride thing going, I’m shocked as hell that Tajiri beat Tazz.

And that’s it for me…

rob, you’re talking like wrestling wins emmy’s for its great writting.

Amen. That was a very cool gimmick match, along with the ref match. I wanted to see Earl go to the top rope.

I agree that RVD is a great wrestler, and his finishing move is awsome, but he needs some mic skills. If he had Rock skills, then he would be cool. Otherwise, he’s a hack.

Well this could mean a couple of things.

  1. He did it to piss Vince off and is still WWF
  2. He truly defected

If it is the first, then no biggie. Same ole Austin, but if it is the second then that means Rocky is on his way. :):):)

Wrestling is like any other soap opera. It has good times, and bad times. When you are trying to write for 5-6 shows a week, sometimes things suck. Is WWF emmy material? No, but it is great entertainment. Kinda like those cop shows with car chases, or action movies. They rarely win anything, but they are fun to watch.

Now go back to playing with your toys Merc.

Yeah, I’ll give you that, RVD has about the same on screen charisma as his (sorta kinda) namesake. But, hell, as far as great wrestlers with poor mic skills go, I say he’s on about the same development curve as Angle. (Well, I didn’t think that much of him when he first came out.) And, hell, it took The Rock a while to find his niche as well. Just give RVD time.

And am I the only one who’s thinking that hardygrrl is off nursing Jeff’s wounds?

Jeff barely got to use the ladder.

It was a really good PPV. and I nearly wet myself laughing at times, Especially when Rob Van Dam checked to see if the small kid in front of him was OK just before doing a back summersault onto Jeff Hardy. And also when x-pac was being booed, and Jim Ross couldn’t understand why.

It was my first time seeing Brian Kidman wrestle. very impressive.

Also, Trish Status almost falling into the pit in front of the stage was the funniest moment of the night.

Stone Cold’s defection: It’s because Vince brought “the Old Stone Cold” back. The Old SC hated Vince. The Old SC wouldn’t have worked with Vince in a million years. The Old SC would have found a way to screw Vince over AND piss him off at the same time.

The Old Stone Cold is back. None of this huggy shit.

The Bra & Panties match was disappointing. They were playing up Tori Wilson and Stacy Kiebler as exhibitionists who were looking forward to showing off their bodies to the audience… yet when the Magic Moment came, they started acting like Ivory Wannabe’s. La-a-a-a-ame. We didn’t even get a good view of Lita’s Famous G-String (although, as always, we caught glimpses of the top half).

I really enjoyed how they were playing Kurt Angle as something other than a big-muscled Gilligan. Hell, he even said “bullshit” (oooooooh!). And he was spectacular in the match. I’ve been a big fan of his wrestling since his first match with Shawn Stasiak all that time ago.

And I was very impressed by RVD’s performance tonight. I had never seen him wrestle, yet several times I had my jaw dropped in awe of his (and, admittedly, Jeff’s) work. They both put a shitload of effort into that match.

I’m gonna miss the Singing Stone Cold. He and Kurt made some great promo’s recently.

Why didnt Mick Foley speak? They could have done with trying to get the crowd to Get into the swing of things a bit more.
Hell, they wouldn’t even cheer for Kidman after the Shooting Star Press.

You knew I’d post
Match of the night…RVD/Jeff Hardy. I only wish I was nursing Jeff’s wounds  Great match, especially since I’ve been waiting for the WWF to sign Rob since ECW folded. Once he gets some mic skills, he’s unstoppable.

I knew SCSA would turn. That’ll set up the Rock’s return as the top face.
The last match of the night…imagime it with HHH and Benoit instead od Taker and Kane…

Bra and Panties? Please. Until the WWF starts booking tuxedo matches for the ladies…

X-Pac…Can’t get any good heat no matter what he does. He could save a nun from a burning church and people would still chant X-Pac sucks.

To loosely reply to everyone at once:

hardygrrl is right, but I still hate to see SCSA over at the WCW. I truly hope he doesn’t become like Hogan in the NWO.

Kidman was amazing as well, but I have been a fan of his since I saw him with Raven in the old WCW.

I must say overall it was an amazing PPV. Almost as good as Wrestlemania X7.

Rob Van Dam just may take over Jeff’s spot as the second man hardygrrl fantasizes about the most. So far he’s nuber three,Jeff’s number two and if you didn’t already know who number one is, refer to my sig.

The match vs Matt Hardy tonight-incredible. Even though he’s a heel, the crowd loves him.

This from the grown man who watches wrestling.

Mercutio,

It’s not like we think it’s real.

hsrdygrrl…a woman who watches wrestling and doesn’t care who knows.

An Update

My friends who watch wrestling but not as fervently as I do have finally realized why I raved so much about Rob Van Dam.
Even though he gave my Jeffy the Van Daminator. :frowning:
