Depending on where it’s held in Boston, I may be able to come, try and put it near a train station and I can definitely do it (although I probably won’t do the concert).
Well, I checked Mapquest and Boston is about a 5-6 hour drive for me, but it’s a possibility. I will have just moved into my new house, so I’m not 100% sure I can get away. I’ll keep checking the thread for developments. Maybe I can come and get me some Wickylovin’. Woo!
A dopefest in Boston? I’m SO there! Depending on the day of the week, I may have to meet up late, but I might be able to get out of work that day. Otherwise, I can join up around 9 or 10. And I’d let people crash at my crib, but my mom would clearly have issues with a bunch of strange people crashing in her basement
But regardless of whether or not I have to work, I’ll at least make an appearance.
I wasn’t getting my hopes up 'cause Scott (my boyfriend, without whom I’m sure my parents wouldn’t have let me go) refused to come with me to the last Dopefest, but we talked about it and he seemed pretty psyched for a trip to Boston, too.
So I was gonna get to go to a huge Dopefest and take a trip with my boyfriend. I was SO excited.
But 'twas not to be. I checked my agenda this morning and I have training on the 17th, for which someone is flying in from Calgary or something, so I can’t reschedule.
Howzabout the aquarium? It’s a kickass aquarium as I remember it, and there is this big sculpture in front that moves with the wind. Howbout there at noon?
Sounds good to me… and it’s quite easy to get there by the subway (or the “T” in Bostonian lingo). There’s actually a stop called “aquarium” so it shouldn’t be too hard. And yes, the aquarium does kick ass. Another option for meeting would be the Commons/Boston Gardens, but wherever is fine with me.
A word of advice for folks going to Boston who don’t know it very well… park outside the city and take the T in. That’s what I do every time. Makes life so much less stressful.
The Aquarium T station is presently offline for renovations, the nearest stop would be State on the Blue Line…
However, I would recommend maybe meeting in the rotunda of the Quincy Market? Govt. Center T station and North Station (commuter rail) are quite close, and there’s stuff to do there. The Aquarium would be about a 15 minute walk from there…
King Richard’s Faire is also in town, if anyone’s intrested. It’s not in the city, but not too long of a drive.I don’t think the trains run there though, so we’d have to gather carpools
Yo, waterj2, if you figure out a way to get there, let me know, as I believe we are both in the same area (you do go to RPI, right? Or am I thinking of some other doper?)
I could easily be persuaded to provide some kind of renumeration for yuor services. Money, spirituous beverages, etc…
The aquarium? The last time I was there I was 7, and I was terrified that my 1 year old brother was going to be eaten by the sharks. There was this huge tank with sharks and people in scuba gear, and my dad had my brother sitting on the ledge of the tank. Why the hell did they let people that close to an open-topped tank? Oh well, some day, when I can master my fear of the Tobin bridge, I’m going to drive into Boston…and not hypervenilate like the time I accidently made a detour through when getting lost off of the Mass Pike.
I’m liking the Quincy Market idea too, for a few reasons. It’s easily accessible, it’s central, and it doesn’t cost money to get in! [sub]Hate to be a downer but I’m pretty freaking broke. I’m sure a lot of you can empathize.[/sub]
