We Got a Dog

You didn’t follow the instructions to post the actual JPEG link, like so:

But, no matter. The main thing is that Jack is a gorgeous doggie and you and he will be the bestest friends for a very long time!

Embark does DNA testing, and from what I can tell is best of breed. We’d never have guessed that our dog is 3/4 pit bull type breeds (American Bully & pit bull) without DNA testing; he’s not overly stocky, he’s got wiry hair, and he’s got a lot of terrier characteristics- a beard and some other funny fluffy hair features. And he’s super sweet. Like ridiculously so; he’s the most tolerant dog I’ve ever heard of, much less actually met. He’s a huge, sweet doofus who wants nothing more than the four of us in close proximity and lots of food.

He looks like just what you describe – a dog who lives to love and be loved!

And so does Jack, too, although he seems to have been caught in a sleepy pose!

I’m sure Jack’s a great boy!

Just remember the threes rule for shelter dogs.

  • Three days for the dog to quit being entirely uncomfortable in their surroundings and start decompressing.

  • Three weeks for the dog to start acclimating and quit being so anxious.

  • Three months for them to truly feel like your home is their home.

It was absolutely true for Emmett; he was really tentative for three or four days, and by three weeks, he had calmed down, and by three months, we saw the real dog and he relaxed and felt at home.

Yeah, we read about that. He hits the 3 week mark a week from tomorrow. He’s a little different in that he never lived in a shelter, but he’s moved around some. When we decided it was going to work for him to stay with us we told him that he was home.

He’s adorbs.

When I saw the pic on my phone, I thought “how could they not see Pitbull?”
But I got on my Tablet and saw him closer and saw the hair.
Yep, he’s an interesting mix of breeds.

But like I say just adorable. <3

That’s his summer coat; his winter one (we got him in January) is more full and thick, making the pit heritage even harder to make out.

Oh, he’s adorable! And I got a kick out of Flat Jack. True, he looked like he’d fold easily for convenient storage, but he still looked skritchable.

So he’s coming up on his first birthday then?

Congratulations. He’s a fine dog, and Jack is a fine name.

He’ll be a year old on July 3rd.

Jack also has a little pit bull in him, which explains the short coat.

Now that there’s a major heat wave, we know that Jack doesn’t mind the heat. He likes lying in the hot sun, which he does while I sit in the shade.

Now that is one short-haired doggie! My Bernese Mountain Dog, whose ancestors were born and bred in the cold and snowy Swiss Alps, and who sported a double layer of thick fur, used to love to shove his furry self against the air conditioner vent in the family room. It was an old house and the vents were wall-mounted at floor level, not the modern style of floor vents, so on hot summer days he just snuggled up against the blast of cold air coming out of the wall and had a nice nap!
