1: Me.
2: It’s as good as any term for describing cut-up raw veggies like carrots, cherry tomatos, celery, radishes, broccoli florets and maybe jicama or similar stuff to be dipped, most often, into ranch dressing.
Crudites: Any particles that remain on a kitchen surface after you’ve finished cleaning.
Not me ----- and not really. Now that I’ve seen the word and rolled it around a few times I know a few neighbors who shall forthwith be “the Crudites”.
This, I like!
Thanks for the kind welcome! As a compromise between providing chocolate and beer, both of which can construably be boring on their own, I will bring some chocolate beer. Enjoy!
A little more info on Crudites, it’s pronounced crew-du-ta. Not crud-ites
Last April was the hottest recorded in Spain, with an average 4ºC higher than usual values; the previous peak was 1950.
Today, in a village in the outskirts of the Pyrinees where snow in August isn’t unusual enough to make the news, and at 6pm, the thermometer says “29ºC”.
Crudités is a French word (I went and checked and RAE says “:p”, which means it hasn’t officially entered the Spanish language) which you can find in the kind of menus written by someone who thinks it’s more important to sound posh that to feed people. Depending on location and stupidity level, it can mean:
a small salad,
cooked veggies (which is the opposite of the original meaning),
“I don’t know how to spell hors d’oeuvres”,
raw, chopped vegetables served as hors d’oeuvres.
It definitely is NOT any kind of tapa, pintxo or aperitivo.
- I do, now. I’ll never use it.
- Yes.
It’s cold again and I don’t want to be at work.
Hola! How is everyone?
Saturday here in central CA was 95 deg then Sunday was 72 ish and cloudy until about 4PM. Today is sunny and cool expected about 75 deg. Altogether not to shabby really.
Weekend was great - mr ems is home. His mom ventured out to Church yesterday for the Mother’s Day service which she really enjoyed and she starts 28 days of radiation today. Right now the docs are giving her 6-8 months which is waaaay better than the intitial 6 weeks prognosis.
So mr ems and I did a bunch of stuff around the house this weekend painting, washing windows etc and we went to the movies and made chili. So it was all round really good.
In other news it looks like we may be moving…transfering to Oklahoma City. We shall see if mr ems gets his letter today - I got mine last Thursday. I also have my Ortho follow up appointment today to find out exactly how damaged my knee is from the MRI and when I can schedule surgery to fix it! Yay!
Typical Spring weather for Orygun here, temps 50 to 70 Merrikan and rain 2 out of three days.
Summer is when it stops raining and temps soar to the 90s Merrikan. Some people like those temperatures. These are people who have no internal heat generation properties of their own. i.e. zombies!
BTW, I too know what crudites is/are and how to pronounce, but I never use the word. People might mistake my meaning.
ems, i’m sorry the MRI wrecked your knee They should be more careful with those things!
Mappy Monday y’all!
Since you spend so much time flying to Tulsa, this makes perfect sense,** ems.**
I know what crudites are, but only because I read so much. I really don’t think I’ve ever heard but one or two people I know refer to a veggie tray as crudites.
Our weather forecast is not late springish. The highest temp will be 60 degree, with partial sun, clouds and rain most days. This is the forecast through Sunday.
Haha - I see what you did there! Grammar is not my strong point today. MRI was a couple of weeks ago - they were using the results to see how badly damaged my knee is from an injury a couple of years ago in Congo
Crudities are edible raw veggies, usually 2 or 3 bites worth each, served with some sort of dip.
No, it is definitely not a “foodie” item. The kid with a small baggie of carrot sticks in his lunch box has crudities to eat. (whether or not he does is another story)
Ok, what I got out of this is, mmmmmm’s injured her knee while doin’ the conga in a MRI machine. Is that right?
gotti I think that may be the case re dogs and cicada mcnuggets. Sis’s dogs seem to enjoy 'em!
Welcome rachelellogram! We need to work on a nickname. Everybody gets a nickname.
lieu I like that definition of crudites. I still pronounce it crud-ites. That amuses me.
Dindin tonight is grilled steak sallit. That’s a steak that’s been grilled, sliced and served on a sallit. The sallit is not grilled. You’re not supposed to grill sallits. I think.
Tonight I have Vestry meetin’ over to the church house. I get to talk about budgets and stuff! YAY!

Well, this weekend totally sucked. Computer Boy is going to move out soon. I had a bad depressive episode last night. Culinary Boy and I can stay here for a while and cover the bills okay, but we’re talking about moving to a smaller apartment in a few months.
I feel really bad about this, partly because my depression contributed in a large way, but now that I’ve had a little bit to let it sink in, it might be better. Culinary Boy and I could probably use some time without roommates to work some stuff out and Computer Boy never really felt comfortable here. I could tell he felt awkward about the living situation.
We’ll work through it. Sometimes you need a crisis, you know?
I was also wondering what the MRI did to your knee - was thinking maybe you had a metal implant that the magnet ripped out or something equally horrid.
What they said. Not a foodie term. Maybe a generation thing? I think it sounds a little bit retro. Might also, in part, be an education/wide vocabulary thing.
Am home so I can garden before the rain resumes.
Off to the garden.
Yay!
Hugs.

Calamari. There, secret’s out.
Survived Monday. Yay.
I moved my 2 pepper plants because they were kinda crowded. I fed my veggie patch and it’s got the sprinkler on it right now. I have some green cherry 'maters already!
Supper will be steak, smashed N.O.T., and something green, probably a veggie.
More later - time to start cooking.
How about the tomatoes? <gdr>
