We interrupt your regularly scheduled MMP to bring you this Early TV Mockumentary

Seen on the back of a pickup truck - youthful attitude collides headlong with responsibility.

They had a “FEAR THIS” sticker on the back window, slightly curled on the edges, so it looks like they’ve had it there for a few years. Directly below the sticker, nestled in a bungee net was a Costco-sized box of Huggies.

HOT NEWS!

Looks like HRH has that whole “elbow, elbow, wrist, wrist” thing down pat! Cute pic, cute chick!

Here, let me help you out with that Haze! pokes with pointy stick Mush, mush!

Emergency fwuck, snerk…

donkeybear, I’m surprised you needed to add any liquid to your stew–did you cover all the meat with the first batch of liquid, and did you cover the pan with aluminum foil AND the lid? The double seal thing is important, keeps all the juice IN the stew… Glad it turned out well!

My chicken satay with cashew sauce was a screaming hit–Himself now understands why I get all moony and want to go to Saigon Kitchen on a regular basis. I’m very happy that my intuition regarding cashew substitution for peanuts was absolutely correct, by the time I got done with the lime juice, ginger, garlic, coconut milk (I was actually out of coconut milk so I put some lowfat milk and some coconut into the old Magic Bullet and smoothed it out–tasted great!), Sriricha hot sauce, fish sauce and soy sauce the cashew ended up doing exactly what peanuts do, which is to give a creamy texture and a nice rich underflavor. I used a recipe that says it’s a no-cook, but that didn’t seem right to me so I heated it over the stove to meld the flavors together. I didn’t QUITE end up licking the pan clean, but only because I was so full I hurt. I think Himself ended up doing the honors on that!

We’re having a severe weather alert–it’s been cool and rainy all week so far but it’s due to get suddenly extremely hot today and tomorrow, then go on into the weekend in the high 80’s. Guess I’d better locate all the breeze box fans, huh?

gotti, that’s some damn good news. I know several gay couples who have married since Canada made it legal, and they’re honestly some of the most loving, rock-solid relationships I know of… to say they’re not worthy of calling it a “marriage” is dumb.

/soapbox

Off to meet coz for lunch. She’s bringing her baby girl, who is the most adorable little thing on earth - though HRH comes darn close, Dotty, for someone who doesn’t share genes with me.

Interview with HR is scheduled for Tuesday am - it’s just a 30 minute phone interview, but with luck it’ll lead to a more thorough in-person interview with the team I’d be working with… which means I get to spend the whole long weekend feeling nervous about this. Ack.

Spaz, I call those the dreads. Out of the clear blue sky, I get this paralyzing impending sense of doom. It used to be bad enough that it became self-fulfilling.

I’d love to take the dog for a walk, but it would have to pull me in a wagon. Or behave while I crutched my way behind.

Note to Doc Z: I am NOT using crutches to keep off this for more than a few more days. I have a ridiculously stiff brace to wear, and if you’re sending me to get punished by some therapist, certainly I am man enough to walk a few yards once in a while.

Cuervo has been dropping by to purr and drool on me. He’s not really a lap cat, but he’s hanging out here today.

Someone bring me beer, m’kay? Wife is not cooperating on this matter. Something to do with Demerol and alcohol…

**Dotty ** - I couldn’t resist!

Hi, honeys, I’m home! In a little bit, I’m going to load the garbage and recycling into the van and dispose of it. I’m also hoping to get at least a load of jeans done today.

**FCD ** has a job interview within the hour. From the description, it’s perfect for him, plus it’s an hour closer to home than his current gig. However, we’re pretty sure they can’t match the money. On the other hand, since he won’t be driving as far and since we no longer have to support a college student, he can afford to take a small pay cut. We shall see…

The cats are still not playing nice. Taz wants to play and Cleo wants him to die. Pretty much sums it up.

More rain on the way, with more flood watches. Just what we need.

That’s all for now. I must gather garbage and load the van. Oh yes, envy my life, why doncha??

:brings beer for Bus Guy:
Good luck with the interview, Mahna.

Dotty, Noor is so, so cute.
Sounds like Driving Husband is coming over for cake before work, and Attacks Husband is coming for dinner. I should really figure out something to make before then. Nat is shouting at a string of toys. I take it that they’re unsatisfactory. He’s being quite scathing.

All righty, then. Trash and recycling have been taken to the convenience center, and the garbage cans are back in the garage. Load of jeans in the washer, rest of the dirties sorted, and critters all fed. Just waiting for **FCD ** to finish his interview and come home. No idea what we’ll do for supper - but it won’t be grilled cheese - we finished off the cheese yesterday.

Glad the week is almost over. Even tho I was off most of Monday and all of Tuesday, it still feels like a loooooooooong week. I guess being sick messed with my personal Space-Time Continuum or something.

Off to read the funnies!

Hah! I love it!

And Dotty, she’s adorable.

This sounds familiar. **KeithT **had a Bengal and I had a cat who sounds a lot like Cleo. And what you describe is pretty much how it went.

Smarty, recipe please. That sounds AWESOME!

Back from coffee. My little coz is concentrated adorableness, though she alternated between fussing and sleeping the entire time. I was finally able to give her the blankie I made four months ago as a welcome-to-the-world gift, and by sheer happenstance it turned out to be a perfect match for the stroller. I couldn’t have planned it better if I’d tried.

Grilled lamb and fava bean salad for dinner tonight, methinks. Maybe some raisin squares for dessert, assuming I have all the ingredients kicking around… I don’t really feel up to going to the store after being out all afternoon.

LiLi, why bother with dinner if you’ve got cake?

So, gotti DH and you got plans in the works? Great news! One day it shall be across the nation.

dotty awwwwwwww… HRH is so keeeeee-yooooooooote! MOOOOM’S ummmmm… lolkid made me giggle.

I made it back to da cave with twuck. No emergency fwucks happened along the way, dangit!

I took mom to lunch at this place called Green Tomato Buffet. It’s a (duh) buffet featurin’ good ol’ southern cookin’ and heaps and heaps of fried green tomatoes. I am still stuffded. Ol’ y’all know who mentioned goin’ to get sump’n to eat and I told him where I et lunch. He said nevermind then. Course he’s got a meetin’ tonight so we’re not seein’ each other so he said he’d just go grab a sammich. I’s also tahred from drivin’ today. I got into a buncha rain on the way back but, of course, none here. It’s all cloudy like it wants to rain. C’mon rain!

I got a call from a place I had applied to back in September last year. I have an interview with ‘em week after next. I figure, what the heck. I wouldn’t mind workin’ for Proctor & Gamble. After all, they do make one of my favorite products which I keep in plentiful supply at all times. I am awaiting an email from them with some forms attached that they want me to fill out pre-interview and email back. I am always intrigued by mystery forms.

I feel the need for a cold beerverage comin’ on.

Later Y’all!

ETA: Can’t believe I forgot this! JoeDawg is in da cave. Poor thing is currently enduring having to recline upon the sofa and has been made to consume treats. Pity his miserable existence this next week.

She damn well better have. I want those cinnamon rolls. WANT. NOW. WITH OR WITHOUT GLUTEN.

swampy, stop torturing poor Joe Dawg, dammit!!!

By my calculations, FCD’s interview has lasted an hour and a quarter so far. Is that a good sign?? Methinks maybe yes. Hope he calls soon, tho - I’m hongry!!!

I just subjected JoeDawg to skritches and kisses. I am a mean, tough nanny. Fear me! In a while he shall be made to endure sittin’ in the recliner with me. He just hates that. It’s for his own good though. I say it’s important that any pet should not be spoiled.

Why won’t it rain! It’s cloudy, muggy, hyooooooooooomid. AAAAAAAARGH!!!

I sorta freaked out sis’s dog today. Poor Faith. That’s the dog. Remember, I drove BIL’s truck home Sunday, so today I took it back. So, I pull into sis’s driveway and park the truck. Faith sees this and immediately is all, “ZOMG!!! Daddy’s home!!! YAY!!! DADDY!!! DADDY!!! DADDY!!!” and comes runnin’ up to the door of the truck. I get out and she’s all “Wha? You’re not daddy! Why are you in daddy’s truck? I know you’re Unca swampy and I’m fallin’ all over myself with excitement at seein’ you, but… this is daddy’s truck! Why are you in my daddy’s truck???” It was a happy/confused look. Poor Faith. I made up for it though cause I went in sis’s house and got Faith her favorite treats and gave many, many skritches.

**FCD ** just called - the interview ran almost 2-anna-half hours. He and I are meeting at Bert’s to have a burger and he’ll tell me about it. Then I’ll tell you about it.

I’m starved!!!

Ever since I read the “cat spanking” thread I’ve been curious as to whether Olive might harbor this secret desire to be abused. The Guy and I had been discussing this awhile back - I told him that the movie Secretary turned me on, even though the idea of spanking initially seemed kinda weird to me. He confessed that he was afraid of spanking me because he thought it might hurt me. Plus neither of us thought we’d be able to do it with a straight face. Anyway, yesterday I was sitting next to Olive, and my curiosity got the better of me - I lightly swatted her butt. She looked up at me with her googly eyes, with a kind of “Yes . . .?” look in them, and the fact that I was spanking my cat’s butt in an attempt to discover whether she liked it or not overwhelmed me. My hysterical bout of laughter scared her off.

Just thought I’d share.

I still can’t grasp how anything that makes you take the trash and recycling someplace other than the curb can be called convenience. If it was true convenience, the trash guys would come into the house each week and empty the kitchen trash can. Or at least come to the garage and take the rolling bin from there instead of making us roll it to the street.

When we want to get rid of something big and not wait for the annual “big trash” pickup, we have to drive to the dump, and it’s an inconvenience. Dangerous, too. The last time we were there, I nearly got hit in the leg by flying junk that was being carelessly tossed out of the back of a small box truck. (You think U-Haul ever wonders what their trucks are being used for?)

Distressing news from home - apparently our air conditioner, or more specifically, the main furnace blower, needs attention. DH called to say that it started making bad grinding noises. Probably a bad bearing. :frowning: :smack:  I suppose I can’t fault it too badly - it has suffered through 20 years of neglect under previous owners of the house until about two months ago when Invisible Tenant serviced the furnace, tuned the burners and cleaned the whole thing up. Hopefully, it just needs a drop of oil. Failing that, what better time to have a tenant that services HVAC systems? For now, I’ll just keep my fingers and eyes crossed that it’s a cheap problem.

taxi, I’m not sure I can lay claim to a recipe as such–I used this Peanut Saucerecipe but kinda… fucked with it a bit. Aside from the cashew butter substitution and the coconut milk finesse I already detailed, I used considerably more Sriricha hot sauce than they call for, more fish sauce and soy sauce, didn’t bother with the cilantro and heated the sauce for probably 20 mins on low heat to marry the flavors. Oh yeah, I also used warm water to thin when necessary and also threw in a splash of whipping cream just 'cuz.

For the Chicken Satay I kinda mushed together a whole bunch of different recipes, but the marinade included a whole lime’s worth of juice, fish sauce, soy sauce, some turbinado sugar, some sweet chili sauce, Sriricha hot sauce, probably a tablespoon full each of curry powder, cumin, turmeric and coriander, a whole bunch of smushed garlic and fresh grated ginger and a handful of chopped scallions. I used boneless skinless chicken thighs and marinated them overnight, then grilled quickly.

That’s probably about as close to a recipe as you’re gonna get outta me for that dinner! BTW I ate the leftovers today and it was fabulous second time around.

swampy, you are so mean to that poor doggeh, you should be ashamed!

Good vocational luck to FCD, Mahna[sup]2[/sup] and swampy! Appropriate appendages are crossed.

tosses six pack of Black Butte Porter to MBG Drink up, dude, drug interactions are highly overhyped!

Man, what’s in the air today? Bush is getting spanked roundly for his stupid comments in Knesset, the House (specifically Rep Obey, dude, you rawk!) spanked the 'pubs by voting down “supplemental” Iraq funding (while passing the GI bill and troop withdrawal guidelines, w00t!) and California overturns the gay marriage ban–did I take a big dose of Vitamin A this morning? Sure hope I don’t come down anytime soon, 'cuz this is great–and my hands are HUUUUUUUGE!

Haze, according to my kinky friend, it doesn’t really hurt if you use a slightly cupped hand and smack with an upward motion. I’m taking her word for it, as she’s something of an expert on such things… I haven’t tried it out personally (well, except when Morgan is in one of her moods and wants a thumping on the rump).

Yep, the kinky one in the household is our cat. A spayed cat, at that. I think there’s a message in there somewhere.

I had asked for today off and my manager said yes, but could she call me, if needed, and I said yes, if she did it before 8 am and she called me at 7:55.
:frowning:
Long day (even though I missed the first 3 hours–I went in a 1100). Even longer day tomorrow–I’m the only afternoon nurse with 9 pts coming back.

Noor is gorgeous, Dotty! I like “solemn” baby pics.

Hellos, pats on backs, boos, I-know-you-are-but-what-am-I’s to the appropriate peoples. Off to do stuff–May is so insane. Prom, 2 birthday parties and something else I can’t remember this weekend alone. Gah.

That’s exactly what I thought as soon as I saw that photo.

Mahna, I thought the point was that it’s supposed to hurt. I mean, at least a little. I dunno. If I ever do try it I’ll report my findings. :stuck_out_tongue:

:: hugs for rigs :: Miss you!

Just went grocery shopping for the first time in, like, weeks. I’ll have a proper dinner tonight, yay.
