Great OP, Pie. I love looking at that stuff
Yay for QD and DH!

Up caffeinated, off to work all day. I noticed I was so sick, tired, and sore I misspelled “Blergh” yesterday.
Yay for QD and DH!
LiLi, at leat you had on clean underwear, right?
rosie, the holiday ball head thing in that picture you showed us.
It’s sticks in my head when I think of you, kinda like beebs’ pointing pic from your Bostonfest.
Cool, a wedding!!!
I hate that I can’t see Photobucket from work.
Happy Monday all!
:: buries head in computer again ::
Breakfast is out and I’m taking about my tenth break since it left. I spent about half of the day crying yesterday (no, it wasn’t really about him) and it’s worn me out. Yesterday morning I had a small meltdown about TheEx, but in the afternoon I started majorly freaking out about my business and all the bills that I don’t have money to pay. And I think worse than feeling upset about it all, then I start to panic and feel overwhelmed and don’t do anything to help myself out of the situation. Or, like today for instance, I wear myself out completely and have trouble thinking clearly and walking in straight lines and thus I am no good for performing all of the corrective actions that are needed.
Anyways, I’m glad you all liked my tour. For as much as I tend to make fun of going there, it truly is interesting. And, if you’re lucky the presentations that they make are interesting too. Last year there was a presentation about the role that Disney played in urging people to switch over to color tvs. Ludwig VonDrake (Donald’s Uncle) was created specifically to aid in promoting color television.
Ok, perhaps I should get back to work soon.
The rodeo would have been fun,* IF IT WASN’T SO DAMNED COLD!*
I knew the forecast, thought I dressed for it, and in the end, I ignored the wind. The temperature was about 50[sup]o[/sup] Amurrkun when we left.
I was assigned to arena duty, and did 0. No one got hurt in the ring, nor the stands. We had 2 other calls outside however. One was a nutso old lady complaining about heart pain, in her abdomen :dubious: Uh yeah, that’s right under your boobs, ain’t it?
The other was a successful suicide. Guy shot himself through the chest, and made quite the mess. I wound up helping disinfect the ambulance, even though I didn’t take the run.
I took one call early yesterday morning, for a guy with gout in his left knee. That sucker was the ugliest bit of swelling I’ve seen since the old lady wrecked the family truckster last year.
Then came the tornadoes. Actually, there was one Friday morning, too, about 15 miles south of the VunderLair, but I didn’t mention it before. Last night, starting at roughly 5:30, I counted 6 active warnings for severe thunderstorms with rotation, and the closest one to my place was almost the same track as Friday’s. Out my back door, I saw torrential rain, 40ish MPH winds, and pea sized hail. I even used my National Weather Service secrtet decoder ring to call it in.
About half the county was out of power for roughly 8 hours. Mine came back about 12:30 AM. Lots of trees down, but not in any consistent path, so Cottonfield County didn’t have a touchdown, but there were a couple in the counties south and east.
I never did plant the azaleas, but I don’t think they’ll need any water for a couple of days.
I want that Kuba Komet. It’s pointy and neat.
Your new-old TV is black-n-white, right Pie? How long did it take you to get used to the smaller screen?
Catching up from yesterday because my email was dumb and didn’t give me theupdates
Bwa-ha-ha-ha! My master plan is coming to fruition!
Y’all are sparkly, rosie. And you look like a fun bunch.
throws confetti for rigs, pepper, chaotic and other grads
We missed all the Weather yesterday here in G-not-even-close-to-Vegas. At least on my end of town. There were some spectacular fallen limbs around campus, though.
Someone needs to tell these folks that time travel is not yet possible. What’s the hurry in getting married yesterday after they [del]farted around[/de] waited a year?
For now you can blame it on fatigue. Soon, it will be age…
Must forage for food soon. And recuperate from yesterday. I feel like I’ve been beaten up.
TVs look cool. I always wanted George Jetson’s TV. I grew up with a small portable black and white set from Sears. I think that TVs are kind of like ashtrays–a functional item that the industry tried to make “arty” and aesthetically pleasing. Maybe they should try that again…
Hurray for QD and DH! That’s got to qualify for the longest-ever marriage proposal in history.
Now they just need another year and a half to pick a date, preferably one about 2-3 years away, yes? A gal like QD needs ample time to planificate these things down to the most minute of details, after all.
The PC I was assigned to today doesn’t have a scroll mouse. This is most frustrating. I keep trying to use a scroll wheel that isn’t there and it takes me precious seconds to figure out why I can’t move the page.
Kewl ol’ TVs, pie! And eggsallant OP! Our first TV was a “portable” which only meant it didn’t come in a one-ton wood cabinet that took up half the living room. We got one channel at first. Then there were two more and it stayed that way until the advent of cable. Our tenents upstairs won the first color set in the neighborhood at the church raffle. I got to watch it when then asked me to babysit…not that there was that much in color at first…Bonanza, as I recall.
Belated happy Mother’s Day to all the Mumper Moms! The princess treated me to lunch and then we went to see Ironman. It was awesome! I loved it! She also gave me a gift certificate to Discount Shoe Warehouse. Her brother called and is coming by today.
Folks, Flawduh is on fahr once again. Two houses burned down last night. (Could have used you, bobbio.) Yesterday was very windy which only made matters worse. It’s expected to be more of the same today. Authorities are also looking for suspects as they believe at least five of the fires are arson.
li-li, so do they have a date set? And congrats to the happy couple!
I wish I didn’t have to work today.
Tupug
:smack:
Cool OP - I remember my paternal grandparents’ TV - a big hunky piece of furniture with a teensy screen. I also remember how cool it was when Dad installed an antenna on the roof of the house - no more rabbit ears! And we could pick up stations from DC!!! What amazes me today is how cheaply you can get a huge set. Especially with the rise in popularity of flat panel sets.
Home, still sick and snuffly and sneezy. I did go in to work, which was great fun because the road on base that parallels 301 was (is) flooded, so we were detoured over the meadow and thru the woods - about a 2-mile detour. But I got in and reviewed my email and caught up on some stuff, but mostly, I just felt like crap, and I felt crappier as the morning wore on. About 9, I decided that it wasn’t good to be falling asleep at my desk or dashing for the bathroom as often as I was, so I went to my boss and told him I was outta there. He said if I need to take off tomorrow, too, I should just call him.
Have I ever mentioned that I love my boss??
We lost power last night - not sure for how long, but I can tell you that when we have no power, it is dark dark dark here. I had to feel my way to the bathroom, being careful not to walk on any critters. **FCD ** got up to check the time on his crackberry, and that teensy screen really lit up the room! It was around 2:30. He went back to sleep, but I lay there fretting - what if we oversleep? What if the power isn’t on by morning? We’re on a well, so without electricity, we have no water, and neither of us was ready for work without a shower. I could have showered in the locker room at work, but with no power and no lights, I don’t know if I could have packed a bag.
Note to self - put flashlights on the night stands.
But the power did come back on and I woke about 10 minutes before our regular rising time, so that was good. I guess.
I’m sick and tired of being sick and tired. How long can the ick last??? <sigh>
Fun OP pie! I remember a lot of old timey radios and televisions, and the tv we had until sometime in the mid '70’s was an old console black and white. I had a hard time understanding when the announcer came on and said that “________ show would be in Living Color”, only to find that it was still in black and white!
Poor Rusty! One of my Poms, Fawn, is much the same, although with her it could be as simple as someone dropping something heavy, and she’s scrambling up onto my lap and trembling.
You go Tarra!!!
Psychically sending you all of our rain swampus! Thank you!
Yay on QD finally making a decision! Yay for DH finally getting an answer! I hope that they are very happy together.
Wow BBBobio, you had a full weekend. Just…wow.
And pugs state is on fire? I hope that you aren’t in the path of any, stay safe. Have da bear share some rain.
Haze, from last week, I currently own 10 Poms, and have been boarding one for over a year. I only have two that I would breed at the moment, and most of the rest are related in one way or another to each other. More details later, right now I have to get The Son off to school, no easy feat.
Oh, and I wanted to mention that when I woke up for at a bit after 4:00 this am I noticed that the sky was already light, yay for the long days!
Ta!
Feel better FCM!
Ha ha. Date set? Hah.
I have a bad feeling about being a bridesmatron to the most freaked-out bride in history. She can’t possibly be worse than Other Quasi-Daughter. I won’t let her. Anyway, I hope it’s in the fall, because then QD won’t have to find her own place when she moves back to Toronto, with her mother saying, “Oh, this is wonderful! YOu can live at home! We’ll do fun mother-and-daughter things!”
Beware. Run. Don’t do it! The only sort of parents it’s fun to live with after your married are non-interfering ones like the FairyChats.
I hope I’m wrong about remembering her saying a nice engagement length is about two years. There will be hitting with axes. It would give me lots of time to finish her wedding dress, though.
Fall. Fall would be nice.
Interesting OP, but I’m really not into antiques… this may lead to slight problems with the in-laws who love antiques and keep wanting to give us stuff. I appreciate the thought, but I just really don’t like it and don’t want it in my house. Currently, the compromise is that the guest room is our antiques room so that confines it to one space that I can close the door to if I don’t want to see it.
I don’t know whether to be horrified or intrigued by the bacon fudge. KeithT’s response when I sent him the recipe was “It could use a caramel layer. Mmm, maple caramel bacon nut fudge.” I *think *he was being sarcastic.
Good weekend here. I picked up yarn on Saturday (on sale!) to make a throw to go on one of our couches. It’ll be the first thing I’ve knit that I haven’t given away. That’ll be fun.
Yesterday I got a baby tomato plant to put in a big pot on the patio. Hopefully it’ll do well. It’s a grape tomato plant, so if it does grow, it’ll be goooood! And I got a couple boxes to hang on the patio fence with flowers in them. They’ll be really pretty.
And we had dinner with a friend last night. It’s really cool to be at the point where we’ve got friends to do stuff with now. And even better that this was sort of an impromptu get together. That’s what I’ve been missing up to now. All get togethers have been planned in advance… friends should just be able to call each other up and say “Hey, we’re free tonight/tomorrow… wanna have dinner?” and I think we’re starting to get there now after having been here 2 years. It feels good.
Morning, all. Raining here. And raining. And raining. I think I see ark-building going on down the street.
A dignified yay on the engagement. So how many years off will the actual marriage ceremony be? Will it be in time for QD to have children before she hits menopause? And does this mean she won’t come organize your pantry and clean your kitchen any more because she’s too busy with her own?
Yay for 8 days without a coffin nail, herbs! You’re doing great – keep up the good work!
You have the most interesting life, Bobbio. Although I’m glad nobody got seriously injured at the rodeo (not counting the suicide, which isn’t so much an injury as permanent destruction). Were you able to watch any of the rodeo itself, or were you helping hold down a first aid station somewhere out of sight?
That’s the advantage of having been through a big earthquake, FCM – I haven’t been without a flashlight in my nightstand/my purse/my car/my desk/my knitting bag/nearly any place you can think of since Northridge. Paranoia is a wonderful thing when they really are watching you.
Finished up Dr. Stupid Idiot last night, and I must say I was proud of the attorneys questioning him: It took them 600 pages to do it (plus however long their first day of questioning was that I didn’t work on), but they finally got the idiot to admit he was wrong. Miracles do happen. It definitely was vindication after listening to him sit there and make excuses for 600 pages. Even if I did stay up waaaay too late to get him done.
Now I’m faced with nothing more exciting than straightening the house and doing laundry for the next day and a half, till we leave for Idaho. Yay! A ten-day vacation from working! Definitely what I need.
Off to caffeinate some more and then get my behind in gear.
Way cool OP!
TLDR - I’ll catch up eventually…
:: hugs and kisses, aws, yays, and boos as needed ::
:: rushes back to work ::
taxi mmm tomatoes! I keep meaning to pick up a plant from work and try it. I can kill anything that’s green, so I’m not too optimistic.
Just got up, have to be to work in an hour and a half. DO NOT WANT!
Don’t have any early-morning TMI for you, except that my date last night stood me up. :o (embarrassment, not blowjob)
aww, poor c-bear. Who would dare stand up a cutie such as you?
I am kind of thinking about making that fudge. Kind of.
I’m also eating stale cake covered in double cream for lunch, so maybe my culinary judgement is shot.
Water water water.
First, I noticed that one of my prayer plants was on the floor and tangled in a cat toy. As I untangled it, I further noticed how dry it was - I hadn’t watered my plants since I left for Orlando over 2 weeks ago! So I watered them.
Then I looked downstairs, because when we get lots of rain, we get a small puddle by the basement door. Well, we’ve gotten lots and lots of rain, so the puddle was a bit larger than I’d expected. And when I went to mop it up, I noticed another puddle against the front wall. That is not good, as it leaked into what will be the bedroom for the basement apartment.
I got out the wet/dry vac and sucked up as much as I could, then emptied both dehumidifiers and turned them on Max. It should dry out in a day or so. But we’ve got to figure out the water intrusion from the front wall. grrrrrrr
heck of a way to spend a sick day…
