I need to send a fax may once every other month to someone, and I go to the nearest Kinko’s and wait in line. But usually when a fax is involved there is no time to lose, and fax back-and-forth may take place as documents are signed and counter-signed, etc.
At one time there were free outgoing fax services on the web.
I can’t see paying for a monthly service, although I would gladly pay-as-you-go a dollor or two per page.
If all you need is to send occasionally and not receive, a modem & free fax software might be a better bet. I use efax & have been very happy with it, but they don’t seem to have a pay-per-fax rate.
Unfortunately, I’m guessing this won’t be helpful for you. But for other folks, Windows XP has a fax feature, which is often not installed or activated when you first get your computer.
It sounds like InterFax may be what you are looking for.. There is no monthly fee and no setup fee. You just have to buy a prepaid package strating at $10 that gives you a certain number of pages. It is not expensive at all.
