WEEDS Season 7

Last season’s finale. It was in Andy’s (intended) goodbye to Silas.

While I can imagine Esteban (eventually) being convicted of killing the reporter, I’d’ve figured his wealth and political connections would have greatly delayed the process. Three years might not be nearly enough time for that to plausible work.

And why were Nancy (and her cellmate) held in a Federal prison? Nancy was in for a manslaughter committed in California, the cellmate for (I assume) a murder in New York… what’s the Federal angle?

Good question. Maybe some sort of trafficking across state lines tack-on to manslaughter or part of her plea for turning state’s evidence? Who knows.

I wonder if (can’t think of his name- Esteban’s henchman who was arrested at the same time wearing the toe-shoes) will be on this season. Or Celia or her daughter or any others. The only confirmation I’ve seen about guest stars is that Martin Short is going to play Nancy’s attorney; I wonder if he’ll go for a Nathan Thurm type.

Am really enjoying this season, but still wish the shows were an hour long - they just zip by.
A side note:
Recently, a friend was visiting who has worked with Mary Louise Parker (Nancy) and he said she isn’t really “acting” much in the series - that is really how she is in real life. I thought he might be exaggerating, but she was on Leno yesterday and, well - she did seem to be* in character*. He told me a lot of actors don’t like working with her as they consider her to be bat-shit crazy.
Regardless - she is, if nothing else, perfectly cast for this show!

Loved the premiere, episode 2 was also good but seemed to go by VERY FAST!

I think we are entering a whole new era of the show. The first three seasons revolved around Nancy’s quest to become the top pot dealer in Agrestic and the second three seasons were basically about her relationship with Esteban. It will be very interesting to see what happens next. Love triangle with murderous lesbian and her arms-dealer brother?

Based on what we’ve seen so far it appears that Nancy has not been rehabilitated in prison, but if anything is even more impulsive and risk-addicted than before (Shane’s expression at the very end of episode 2, watching Mom be hauled off for her drug test, was so sad…). It would seem to be a real challenge for Mary Louise Parker to keep the character essentially likable while making her even more of a screwup than she already is!

Maybe Doug will get onto Wall Street and get to be rich again…I hope so, the character hasn’t had too much to do the last few seasons.

I just love this show!

Heylia!!!

I hope she’s going to be more than a cameo. I always loved that character. Though since she’s in California I can’t think how they can re-include her.

I wonder if Nancy will see Celia while she’s in California.

I hope not. Celia’s storylines always seem shoehorned in, and her character adds nothing to the show. I’d never miss her if they’ve written her out.

Heylia’s inflexibility (and stereotyped behaviour) kinda limits her potential as a character, I thought. Nancy’d be better off seeking out Conrad, who showed intelligence and ambition (and could get talked into things if Nancy fucked him), but I guess sass-talkin’ black mama characters get more laughs.

Celia was funny, I thought, but so screwed-up I wondered why Nancy tolerated her at all.

I disagree. Heylia wasn’t unambitious so much as she knew how to make a fat living and keep herself and her family out of real trouble. Nancy was far more ambitious and consequently went on the run from a Mexican drug lord (who’d have killed her already if she hadn’t been pregnant) and then spent three years in prison while her family devolved into fooked up trash. Now Nancy’s a pathetic and penniless ex-con while Heylia probably has tons of cash (remember when she took a knife to the armchair?) and isn’t a blip on police or mob radar.

So is that tattoo on the back of Nancy’s shoulder new? A prison tatt? Can anybody make it out?

I think it’s her kids’ names.

Speaking of her kids, trying to gain custody of Stevie is probably the least sympathetic thing she’s ever done. Whatever she thinks of her sister, at least her sister and brother-in-law haven’t been in prison and they obviously want to keep the little boy, besides which they’re the only family he knows and, unlike Nancy, they’re stable.

I do wonder if Esteban was able to set up a trust fund for the boy, or if he left enough of a legal estate that Stevie will have an inheritance.

For reals. If Silas had a decent moral center (read – didn’t have Nancy for a mother), he would have told the judge, “Leaving Stevie with my aunt is the absolute best decision you could ever make as a judge.”

Last night’s best line was Dean grabbing the gun and asking “Is Celia with you?!” I was expecting him to get blown away (in the ‘fatally’ rather than ‘stoned’ sense) in the pot garden.

Does Hunter Parrish have a clause in his contract requiring a shirtless scene in every episode this season? I’m sure it appeals to some, but it’s starting to get a little gratuitous. In one scene he’s wearing long pants and a long-sleeved sweatery-type shirt, and the next day he’s trimming the pot plants topless.

They should get that clause into Mary Louise’s contract.

The great plan of setting up a store front, but selling stuff out the back?
Hmm, seem vaguely familiar with a certain maternity clothing shop a few seasons back.

There are all sorts of problems with the plotline of Shane getting tons of loans from different banks. In reality there are many different safeguards in place to prevent people from doing just that.

Also the cheese shop that Silas uses as a front in the fourth season and the bakery that Nancy uses as a front in the first season.

Perhaps Andy’s bikes will catch on and outsell the pot. I just can’t imagine there being that much demand for new pot dealers in Manhattan when you’ve got everyone from mobsters to gang members to yuppie bicycle messengers [the one who supplies Doug’s office] already dealing; you’d probably have better odds of getting off the bus from Podunkton and becoming the city’s hottest (Broadway star or decorator or broker or ad exec) within 3 months than building a ground up “enough to afford a loft and upper middle lifestyle” pot dealer in a huge city where you’re unknown, you don’t know your way around, you have no protection, you don’t know what hands to grease, nobody knows you from a narc, and it’s a profession where you really don’t need to have any skills but street smarts and common sense [either of which it’s arguable whether any of them have] and thus pretty much anybody can enter it.

Yeah but Nancy and Silas are hot.
